Many professionals get caught in a CPE mindset when it comes to professional development. A CPE mindset will not get you promotions or new positions. In the knowledge revolution, we have to become lifelong learners - those concerned with learning and growing each day, week, and month - not just completing hours of random CPE each year. Find out how to switch mindsets, increase your likelihood of having your training requests approved, and some questions you can ask yourself to be proactive with your learning opportunities.

Listen in at: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

Ultimately you are the one responsible for your career advancement. Recent surveys show employers are investing less in the training and development on their employees (e.g. 80% of employees state their employer does not offer training, and 86% of workers feel their manager is not skilled in developing employees). Ouch!

The truth is, what got you to where you are now, won't get you to where you want to be. Flashback Friday: I Get By With a Little Help F...

The Beatles were right when they said "I get by with a little help from my friends." In fact the only way we get by is with help from our friends. Sometimes we get the idea we need push forward and do everything ourselves. I get it. We are taught to be independent and do things ourselves. This was engrained in me my whole life.

The truth is, we all need the help of others and need to be there to help others. In fact, if you don't think you need help... you probably needs the most help. Also, the further we get in our career, the more we need help, but the less we reach out.

Trying to do the job alone often leads to stress, emotional, psychological, and even physical pain. Yes, you'll hear how I broke my hand trying to do it by myself, and also a story of a bricklayer trying to do the job alone that I heard almost 30 years ago that has stuck with me ever since.

I even need your help, and when you listen, you'll find out how.

If you are a #CAE and are ready for a little help from your friends, schedule you call to join the CAE Forum at: https://jasonmefford.mykajabi.com/caeforum

Listen in at: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

Flashback Friday: Go From Being One of the Team...

I'm talking with my friend Bruce Turner again about his recent book "Team Leader’s Guide to Internal Audit Leadership" in this #jammingwithjason #internalauditpodcast.

The role of #internalaudit team leaders is being reshaped to accommodate the recognition of Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) as trusted advisors within the C-suite. This requires team leaders to transition to a higher level by providing practical, meaningful ideas to optimize internal audit’s value proposition through attuned, balanced, and credible day-to-day audit engagement activities.

His book provides fresh, timely, and higher-level insights on the expanding role of team leaders, and the need for them to deliver internal auditing services on a day-to-day basis that optimize the value proposition for the benefit of internal audit’s stakeholders.

Bruce Turner, has more than 40 years of practitioner and leadership experience in internal auditing, including being the Chief Audit Executive at several organizations. Flashback Friday: Invest in Yourself or Nobody ...

As we move forward in our career it's easy to wake up one day and realize we haven't really invested in ourselves in years. I know, cause I've been there too. We get so busy dealing with the day-to-day stresses on our job, trying to balance life-work commitments that we don't take time to invest in ourselves. We become dependent on our employer to provide or pay for training, and when that doesn't happen we usually stop taking the time for personal development. After all, we have so much else on our plate, and we don't believe we "have" the time or money.

In this episode, I discuss two "gods" of the strings that we can learn a lot about how to become an expert in our craft. It takes, blood, sweat and tears ... of daily / weekly / monthly consistent dedication ... and a mindset to "make" the time or money investment in ourselves. Learn how these two individuals put in the time to become icons of their instruments.

If you want to be at the top of your game, you have to make time and invest in yourself. If you don't do it, nobody else will think it's important either. When we do invest, we may not become "gods," but the sky in definitely the limit on what we can accomplish.

For complete show notes and downloads related to this episode, visit: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

Flashback Friday: Community and Coaching

In order to really learn we need knowledge, skills, abilities and experience. Abilities come from taking knowledge and skills we acquire and through reflection and application figuring out how to apply them to our situation and circumstance for our benefit. We then fully learn through repetition and experience actually doing those things.

In this #jammingwithjason #internalauditpodcast episode I dig into why this is so important and how we do this.

I've read thousands of books in my life, but the knowledge does no good if I stop with reading the book (knowledge). The great Bruce Lee said, “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

The fastest way to transform knowledge into action and wisdom is by joining a community of like-minded people, and investing in coaching.

If you are serious about lifelong learning and transforming yourself for your success in life and your career, listen to learn how to turbo-charge your learning.

If you are a #chiefauditexecutive and ready for a community of like-minded peers and coaching, join the #CAE Forum: https://jasonmefford.mykajabi.com/caeforum

If you are in #internalaudit and was a community of like-minded peers, join the cRisk Academy Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/criskacademy/

The documentary about the community of musicians in Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles that I mentioned in this episode is called: Echo in the Canyon.
