Flashback Friday: Making Internal Audit Practic...

Most of the advice and knowledge people present about #internalaudit is very theoretical. If you are like most auditors you are still asking "But how do I implement at my organization?"

In this #jammingwithjason #internalaudit podcast "Making Internal Audit Practical" I talk with Toby DeRoch of InsightCPE on how we can become much more practical and just do things instead of talking about it. Two areas we dig into deeper are how to practically apply an Agile Auditing approach, and how to deal with a virtual audit environment, including how to develop relationships remotely.

Listen in at: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

We've been talking about agile auditing for years, so why are a few succeeding and others are reluctant to embrace it or failing in their implementation?

Agile doesn't mean faster, and it doesn't apply to just one part of the audit process. It is a paradigm shift and one of the most important changes to #internalaudit in many years.

I am talking with Toby DeRoche, who has spent the last several years understanding exactly how to apply the principles of agile into the whole audit process in a practical way. What works, what doesn't, what organizations are really doing that are successful, and is here to share so you can make the shift to agile auditing and avoid the painful learning curve.

Listen in at: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

When you are ready for the step-by-step "how to" for agile auditing, learn more about the Certified Agile Auditor Professional (cAAP) course mentioned during this episode at: https://ondemand.criskacademy.com/p/caap/?affcode=105582_jpp6czlf/

Your Habits Will Make or Break You

In life we don't necessarily get what we want, we usually get what our habits give us. We have two kinds of habits; good habits and habits that no longer serve us. In todays episode I speak about how we can end habits that no longer help us and start building habits that do, so we can build our lives the way we want them.

Listen in at: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

Flashback Friday: Giving Up Some Independence i...

Independence and objectivity are two words I hear auditors use incorrectly all the time. Even though the standards describe internal audit as being independent and objective, the truth is very few internal audit functions are truly independent, but we have to remain objective. While we may not be able to control our independence (don't worry I explain in the episode) we have complete control over being objective.

"It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently." Warren Buffet. While lacking objectivity won't really get you "killed" it can definitely get you fired.

Flashback Friday: Invest in Yourself or Nobody ...

As we move forward in our career it's easy to wake up one day and realize we haven't really invested in ourselves in years. I know, cause I've been there too. We get so busy dealing with the day-to-day stresses on our job, trying to balance life-work commitments that we don't take time to invest in ourselves. We become dependent on our employer to provide or pay for training, and when that doesn't happen we usually stop taking the time for personal development. After all, we have so much else on our plate, and we don't believe we "have" the time or money.

In this episode, I discuss two "gods" of the strings that we can learn a lot about how to become an expert in our craft. It takes, blood, sweat and tears ... of daily / weekly / monthly consistent dedication ... and a mindset to "make" the time or money investment in ourselves. Learn how these two individuals put in the time to become icons of their instruments.

If you want to be at the top of your game, you have to make time and invest in yourself. If you don't do it, nobody else will think it's important either. When we do invest, we may not become "gods," but the sky in definitely the limit on what we can accomplish.

For complete show notes and downloads related to this episode, visit: http://www.jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason/

To access the offer from cRisk Academy to save $100 on your first two on-demand trainings, visit: https://criskacademy.com/save100/
