First, I'd ague that they have had a great effect on the economy, but let's dissect why they aren't looking as good in action as they did on paper.

The Trump tax cuts were a big win for big corporations, as well as a big win for all the small corporations that we seem to ignore. The corporate tax rate was reduced from 35% to 22.5%, equaling a reduction of roughly 33% in the tax rate owed by businesses.

Republicans branded this tax cut as a major win for America. It was going to lead to higher wages, more jobs, and the repatriation of funds and operations back to the good ole U.S. of A. Some of us react more to sensitive and emotional arguments, and some of us react to logic-based objective arguments. The fact is, most of the country reacts to the emotional side of an argument. Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal" is full of eco...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

Today on the show we talked about a murder trial from the '90's down in Texas that end with an execution last week. Needless to say, the prosecution brought questionable evidence, and the convicted murderer spoke of his innocence until his final words.

If the government is inefficient, corrupt, and all to powerful, should we still allow the death penalty? We try to answer this difficult question on the first half of the podcast.

Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal"

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders released his plan for a $16.3 trillion spending package dubbed the "Green New Deal," blatantly stealing the name of the massive plan laid out earlier in the year by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

I spent several hours running through this plan line by line today, and arrived at a pretty simple conclusion:

If you care about the environment, if you care about the poor, if you care about innovation, or the economic stability of the country, then you must consider the argument that the government is the worst possible entity to accomplish those goals.

Bernie's plan calls for a complete replacement of:

The power grid

all automobiles

all school buses

all shipping vehicles (semis)

all gas stations

and nearly all roads

It also promises to create 20 million new "high-paying" jobs, and eliminate unemployment. In the elimination of unemployment, it suggests that the need for a welfare state will dissipate, since everyone will have a high paying job. Of course, that's a high-paying job paid for with tax dollars, something that will first have to be stolen from the economy.

Let me be clear. It is probably a bad thing to remove carbon from the ground, and place it into the air. Im not refuting that suggestion, but I will question the idea that we are nearing a "climate catastrophe." I'll also question the idea that this is purely man-made (can we call sexism on that term?), and that anything the United States does can have any effect on the situation.

This plan seizes control of the entire energy sector, and promises to remove "greed" from the equation by leaving all power to be supplied by publicly owned companies. If Bernie has a room full of angels waiting to take the reins, I suggest he disperse them elsewhere immediately.

This comes down to one question: Who is more effective at innovation, and efficiency- private entities, or the government?

I could use the example of NASA vs. SpaceX. Through 60 years of innovation, NASA was able to get the cost of sending a satellite to space down to $600 million. To ad to that fact, they were producing new rockets with each launch. In 10 years, Elon Musk and SpaceX were able to reduce the cost of sending things into space down to $60 million. A tenth of the price if you don't have your calculator handy. In addition to that, they developed a way to fly the rockets back to the launch pad to save money. That wasn't enough.. They then produced a drone ship that would become a mobile landing pad for the rockets, since due to the arch of the launch and the rotation of the earth the rocket would be re-entering over water, and boat fuel is cheaper than rocket fuel.

Think what you may about profit, but the motive for profit saves us money. Take into consideration the fact that in the Russians heyday, an automobile cost 3x as much to produce in the Soviet Union, even though profit was illegal. Remember, Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile. He simply found a way to mass produce it in a way t --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

Here's Why the Tump Tax Cuts Might Not be Havin...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

I've read a few articles lately about how the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" of 2017 isn't having the desired effect.

It was going to lead to higher wages, more jobs, and the repatriation of funds and operations back to the good ole U.S. of A. Since the enactment of this law, we've seen reports of 3.5% GDP growth, but as we normally see afterwards, a revised number that sits around 2.8%. In addition to that, wages paid by companies seem to have shown little movement in the process.

To me, this logic is simple. If you want to actually see the effects that were advertised by Republican's in the passage of this law, the tax cuts have to be made permanent.

Imagine you are the owner of a business. You run on roughly an 8% net profit margin yearly (the average for a Fortune 500 company), and now you've seen a 33% reduction in your corporate tax rate. You have a few options: Raise your employees wages, Re-invest money in future innovation, or take the profit and run, among other things.

There's an issue with expecting businesses to raise their wages in response to these cuts; they are temporary. How many times have you expected your wage to go down after your company's profit margin decreased? Probably never. How many times have you expected your pay to go up if the profit margins increased? Probably always.

What the big corporations did was a mixture of those previous three options from above.

Many corporations did raise wages in response to the tax cuts. Walmart comes to mind, who raised their minimum wage to $11 an hour for all employees. The bulk of the increased compensation came from bonuses paid to employees.

Why would a business opt for a bonus, instead of a raise in their employee's wages?

Simple. Yes they have the money for the increased wages now, but they know the tax cuts aren't going to last, and we all know that employees aren't going to be okay with a reduction in their wages when future President Kamala Harris raises the corporate tax rate to 70%. Therefore, they give out a bonus, en lieu of a pay raise.

In addition to the missed increase in wages, we've also seen less "repatriation" and less increases in business investment.

Why wouldn't the corporations opt for more repatriation and more investment?

Once again, the answer is simple. Contrary to popular opinion, people who run businesses are pretty smart. They hear the rhetoric spewed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Etc.

It takes years to open a new facility, repatriate money, move plants, or any of the things people are waiting for them to do. If your time horizon is more than five years, would you trust that the business climate will be the same in five years as it is right now? No

If you want these corporations to actually make investments in the U.S., to actually raise wages, or actually move their offshore accounts back to Bank of America, then you need to make the tax cuts permanent. Bottom Line.

Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more great articles on politics, economics, and Libert --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

ANTIFA are Domestic Terrorists | Fighting Viole...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

Today we discussed this weekend's clash between members of ANTIFA and member of the "Proud Boys."

Antifa claims to stand against Fascism, but they stand against that fascism with the use of violent Communism. Throughout history, neither of those ideologies have been beneficial for the ordinary individual.

It's time for law enforcement in Portland, OR to step up and arrest these people. We fully support your right to protest, but if you are removing rights from others, then you need to be subjected to the full extend of the law. If government has one job, it's to make sure that we are all safe, and it's clear innocent bystanders in Portland are not safe.

We also discussed our local high school back home in Illinois, and their decision to subject students to random drug screenings.

The administration of Vienna High School has announced plans to conduct randomized drug screenings on their student body. The plan will assign a number to each student, and randomly draw numbers throughout the year. Let me first say that we absolutely agree that teenagers should not be doing drugs, and we appreciate the intent behind this new policy.

However, these drug screenings should not be mandatory. Meaning, the students' parents should have the right to opt their children out of the program. As of right now, "consent" will be considered as participation in extra-curricular activities, or driving your own vehicle to school.

The implied consent by participation in extra-curricular activities is closer to agreeable in my book, being that it is your choice to join or not join those activities. On the contrast, implied consent by way of "you drive your car to school" is further out of bounds, considering the fact that you are faced to attend the school. Were this a private school implementing the policy, I would be 100% on board, since you chose to attend that school.

There's a fine line being treaded with this policy. On one hand, it's morally defendable that this policy be included in your child's schooling, but on the other, it's removing your right as a parent to consent to your child being swabbed, or to their urine being collected by school officials.

To me, it's not obvious that this policy will have the desired effect. When I was in high school, it was considered "cool" to break the rules. Any seemingly arbitrary rule was a target for rebellion among the students. Your "cool" points were likely to go up if you found ways around them, potentially leading to a higher social status. Sometimes, we broke rules that we would have not otherwise broken, if they weren't rules.

I would be slightly worried of an adverse effect from this new policy. That is, the possibility that students will attempt to break this rule, when they might not otherwise have participated in the dangerous acts in the first place.

Responsibility

We talk a lot about responsibility on our podcast. In our eyes, the refusal to accept responsibility in all facets of life has lead to the societal situations we see playing out in politics right now.

When do the responsibilities of the parents end, and the responsibilities of the schools begin? In my eyes, this is yet another attempt to remove parental responsibilities from parents, and place them on arbitrary rules set by government (the school).

If I were a parent, I would sign a consent for if given the opportunity by my child's school. That however does not mean that I believe all the other children should be forced to do so.

Drug testing kits ca --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

Hey folks! Today's podcast episode had to do with the Statue of Liberty. I wanted to talk about this in light of recent discussions on the poem used in front of the statue, and the idea that we are supposed to take care of people in need.

Of course we are supposed to take care of people in need, but I think the government taking money from those who have it and giving it to those that don't is very different. At the time the Statue was placed, we did not have a welfare system in the United States, so it literally can't mean that.

Listen to the episode, and give it a share!

visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more articles on Liberty, Economics, and Politics.

Thanks,

Nate
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

That is, they are no required to apply for college financial aid to be able to graduate. Proponents of the law say that this is a great way to encourage students to pursue higher education after high school. My own opinion is that it's a way to encourage students to go into debt, and a great way to keep prices high on college tuition.

Why is this a bad thing?

The other basic economic incentives this creates are also pretty cut and dry. The more money you make artificially available for a product, they higher price that product will have. Laws like this artificially increase demand, and they make use of money that would not otherwise be available in a free market. In addition, financial aid is not guaranteed to cover the entire cost of college. Hannity made De Blasio put Socialism on display...

Last night New York Mayor Bill De Blasio did an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. There aren't many ways to describe it, other than this- It was absolutely disgusting.

De Blasio defended his plans for gun control, higher taxes, "meatless Mondays," and battling climate change.

Here are the notes from our podcast episode.

Gun Rights

It's pretty clear that De Blasio does not think you have a right to defend yourself. Hannity pressed him several times on that issue, and he had a tough time answering the question. What he did say is that you have a right to be "safe."

What does it mean to have a right to be "safe?"

This is absolutely no knock on law enforcement, but they rarely keep you safe from home invasions. Actually, it would be near impossible for them to do so. The simple question needs to be asked.. If someone breaks into your house, do you have the right to defend yourself? De Blasio's answer on this question is an obvious "no."

CEO Pay

The "left" often uses CEO pay when talking about the failures of our free market system.

What is the point in making this comparison? "The CEO makes 1-2-400X more than the average worker."

The point of this statement is to insinuate that people are struggling in todays society because of Greed. If the CEO wasn't making so much money, the workers at the company would be able to be paid more, right?

Wrong. Let's take one of the most hated CEO's in the world, Doug McMillon (WALMART), for example. He makes $22 million per year. Workers at Walmart start out at $11 per hour. Walmart has 2.2 million employees. Each employee is paying $10 per year to the CEO. In hours? That's roughly $.01 per hour worked (at 25 hours per week on average).

So what if we decide to pay the CEO the same as everyone else in the company? If they are all at $11 per hour, evening out the payment between everyone would raise their pay to...wait for it...$11.01 per hour.

CEO pay is a non-issue, no matter how unfair it may seem. It is absolutely not a factor when discussing the pay of the average employees.

We need to go back to the 1950's tax rates

Ah, the good ole days. It is true that in the 1950's, the top marginal tax rate was 91%. That rate was on income above the $200,000 mark ($2 Million in todays money).

The catch? Only 10,000 households qualified for that tax. In the 1950's, the effective tax rate was actually only 42%. Today it's 37%, with a MUCH lower marginal rate. Meaning that the top tax rate does not matter. Most of the rich are rich because they are smart. They'll find a way to get around it. They are smarter than the government, a low bar, indeed.

The "rich" 1% are still paying nearly half of all the taxes in the US. Yes, even though they only account for 1% of the workers, they pay half the taxes. That number, by the way, has gone up- not down, since the lowering of the tax rates.

"You didn't build that."

Perhaps the most infuriating part of De Blasio's interview with Hannity came at the 16:00 mark, when he stated that the workers are the ones that created the wealth, not the business owner.

This is pure socialism, and it's absolutely wrong.

If you'd like, trace back the origins of any business. Did it start by 600,000 people banding together, pooling their resources, to form Amazon.com? No, it started with Jeff Bezos packing books into boxes on his floor in his house.

The workers have a job because the owner started the business. Risked the capital. Put in 100 hours a week for years on end while only losing money in the process.

If socialists want to start a business, they are absolutely free to do --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

Bernie Sanders interviewed for one hour on Joe ...

Listen to the podcast at this link, or view the article on our website www.bernielies.com

Yesterday, Bernie Sanders gave an interview on the very popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast. After suffering through 31 minutes of the interview, we pinpointed 9 grossly manipulative statistics commonly spewed by B.S.

1. "Healthcare is a yuman right"

People need proper healthcare, don't get us wrong. With that in mind, can you say that healthcare is a "right?"

What does it mean to have a right to something? You have a right to life, right? But that only means that you have a right to not have that life taken from you by an outside actor. The right to life does not mean that you have the right to force a doctor to perform a service for you. You would think that the right to life would mean that you also have a right to food(considering 100% of the population would die without food). Do you have a right to food? No. Don't believe me? Try going into your local grocery store, filling up your cart, and then leaving. Better yet, go to your local farmers land, and pick any amount of food you need. Then leave.

You have the right to not be killed, but you do not have the right to force a service provider to perform a service for you. It is a basic principle that you cannot have a "right" to someone else time. That's called slavery.

2. "Canada's healthcare costs are half as much as the United States"

It is true that their total "costs" reported per capita is half. But what is behind the costs that are reported? In the US it is common place to receive a bill for $25,000 from just the surgeon on a medical procedure. Who pays that $25k? No one. In reality, the hospital or the surgeon are going to write a large portion of that expense off. If it isn't written off, they must have received a payment from the insurance company, but the insurance has a "contractual adjustment" on that bill- meaning they don't pay the full amount.

The problem? That $25k is the price used in Bernie's statistic. In reality, total out of pocket costs for healthcare in 2017 was $318 billion. Far less than the $3.5 trillion statistic used by do-gooder politicians.

Healthcare is too expensive, but experience has shown us that US government is not the entity to resort to if you want to decrease the cost of something.

3. His fight is stifled because lobbyists for drug companies are spreading misinformation.

No. The bulk of people disagree with Bernie's plan because we all have access to a calculator on our phones.

4. Costs are up because of profit- last year the top 10 drug companies made $69 billion.

Blaming "profit" for higher costs is a long-time go to for socialists/marxists.

"Bloodsuckers, vampires, plunderers of the people and profiteers who fatten on famine." Vladamir Lenin prior to killing upwards of one million "Kulaks" in 1920's Russia.

The $69 billion in profit made by the drug companies sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but it is absolutely nothing in relation to the cost of healthcare. If you were going to use the $3.5 trillion number used by Bernie sanders, then the profit of the drug companies represents .00001 of the cost in healthcare. 1/10,000th of the cost. Literally Elizabeth Warren is more Native American than drug companies' profit is a portion of healthcare costs. That's $197 for each person in the US last year. People are not struggling because the drug companies made $197 in profit from their drugs. In relation, you probably pay $130 per year just for Netflix.

5. Medicare has been a success, and people love it.

If you look at a graph of healthcare expenditures year over year, you'll see the price line skyrocket --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

The Gender Pay Gap Myth | We separate fact from...

She went on to state the statistic that we've all heard before, and that we've likely seen discredited several times. "Women are paid $.80 on the dollar. Black women $.61, Native American women $.58, Latina women $.53. These are common statistics used by many on the left to show that discrimination by men is alive and well in the United States. The only problem is - they are completely misrepresented statistics.

Let me be clear, I am not arguing that on the whole women are making the same money as men. In fact, if you look at those numbers speaking on total earnings by men, and total earnings by women, they are probably true. The problem is that those statistics are being used by politicians to make the case that men are still dominantly discriminating against their female counterparts. In truth, that isn't what those statistics show at all.

What those statistics show is that when one gender tends to gravitate towards lower paying fields, that gender will be correctly represented as making a lower amount of money. That statement my be inconvenient, but it is not evidence that our society is a male dominated discriminatory patriarchy. It is evidence that if more women go into lower paying fields such as teaching or social work, and more men go into fields like Information Technology or Engineering, men are likely to have higher average earnings.

Differences in career choices

To take an honest look at whether or not discrimination is a remaining factor, we must first separate the variables in the equation. One of those variables is career choice. It is not enough to simply say "women make less than men" without considering the different occupations each of the respective genders gravitate towards. Would it make sense to say that "Social Workers make less than Chemical Engineers, therefore we have evidence that there is rampant gender discrimination in the US..?" No, it sure wouldn't, yet that's what politicians are basically saying. I'm not saying that women don't go into engineering, and men don't go into social work, but the data are certainly clear that there are differences in the career choices made by each gender by en-large.

Let's look at a study from the American Association of University Women (AAUW), which measured median pay for the 15 majors most highly dominated by each gender.

<p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-co --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support
