"We should make guns illegal so this doesn't happen, but yet drugs are illegal and this guy was a known drug dealer."</p> <p>On top of that, he had multiple convictions. Their population is rapidly decreasing, their taxes are rapidly increasing. Their pension is severely underfunded, and they're slowly but surely filling up federal prisons with former governors.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Of all the mistakes they routinely make, it's clear they always execute one thing properly: really terrible economic decisions. The new law that takes effect for the 2020-2021 school year fits right in with what seems to be an ongoing theme in Illinois- make prices artificially high.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a <a class= "_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _3sz0l" href= "https://herald-review.com/news/local/education/new-law-signed-by-pritzker-in-decatur-requires-high-school/article_b2b80848-e74d-5495-bc08-8c67d0e1e8ad.html" target="_top" rel="noopener"><u class="sDZYg">new law</u></a> requiring high school seniors to fill out a <a class= "_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _3sz0l" href= "https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa" target="_top" rel= "noopener"><u class="sDZYg">FAFSA</u></a> application before being allowed to graduate high school. That is, they are no required to apply for college financial aid to be able to graduate. Proponents of the law say that this is a great way to encourage students to pursue higher education after high school. My own opinion is that it's a way to encourage students to go into debt, and a great way to keep prices high on college tuition.</p> <h2 class= "_3f-vr _208Ie blog-post-header-two-font blog-post-header-two-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Why is this a bad thing?</h2> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> The other basic economic incentives this creates are also pretty cut and dry. The more money you make artificially available for a product, they higher price that product will have. Laws like this artificially increase demand, and they make use of money that would not otherwise be available in a free market. In addition, financial aid is not guaranteed to cover the entire cost of college. Some of these mass shootings, a very small amount, could have perhaps been prevented. Shooters like the individual in Parkland, and recently the individual in El Paso, showed some signs of potential violent threats on innocent members of the public. <p>Last night New York Mayor Bill De Blasio did an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. There aren't many ways to describe it, other than this- It was absolutely disgusting. </p> <p>De Blasio defended his plans for gun control, higher taxes, "meatless Mondays," and battling climate change. </p> <p>Here are the notes from our podcast <a href= "https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/good-morning-liberty/id1312689810"> episode. </a></p> <p><strong>Gun Rights</strong></p> <p>It's pretty clear that De Blasio does not think you have a right to defend yourself. Hannity pressed him several times on that issue, and he had a tough time answering the question. What he did say is that you have a right to be "safe." </p> <p>What does it mean to have a right to be "safe?" </p> <p>This is absolutely no knock on law enforcement, but they rarely keep you safe from home invasions. Actually, it would be near impossible for them to do so. The simple question needs to be asked.. If someone breaks into your house, do you have the right to defend yourself? De Blasio's answer on this question is an obvious "no." </p> <p><strong>CEO Pay</strong></p> <p>The "left" often uses CEO pay when talking about the failures of our free market system.</p> <p>What is the point in making this comparison? "The CEO makes 1-2-400X more than the average worker."</p> <p>The point of this statement is to insinuate that people are struggling in todays society because of Greed. If the CEO wasn't making so much money, the workers at the company would be able to be paid more, right?</p> <p>Wrong. Let's take one of the most hated CEO's in the world, Doug McMillon (WALMART), for example. He makes $22 million per year. Workers at Walmart start out at $11 per hour. Walmart has 2.2 million employees. Each employee is paying $10 per year to the CEO. In hours? That's roughly $.01 per hour worked (at 25 hours per week on average).</p> <p>So what if we decide to pay the CEO the same as everyone else in the company? If they are all at $11 per hour, evening out the payment between everyone would raise their pay to...wait for it...$11.01 per hour. </p> <p>CEO pay is a non-issue, no matter how unfair it may seem. It is absolutely not a factor when discussing the pay of the average employees.</p> <p><strong>We need to go back to the 1950's tax rates</strong></p> <p>Ah, the good ole days. It is true that in the 1950's, the top marginal tax rate was 91%. That rate was on income above the $200,000 mark ($2 Million in todays money). </p> <p><a href= "https://taxfoundation.org/taxes-on-the-rich-1950s-not-high/">The catch? Only 10,000 households</a> qualified for that tax. In the 1950's, the effective tax rate was actually only 42%. Today it's 37%, with a MUCH lower marginal rate. Meaning that the top tax rate does not matter. Most of the rich are rich because they are smart. They'll find a way to get around it. They are smarter than the government, a low bar, indeed. </p> <p>The "rich" 1% are still paying nearly half of all the taxes in the US. Yes, even though they only account for 1% of the workers, they pay half the taxes. That number, by the way, has gone up- not down, since the lowering of the tax rates.</p> <p><strong>"You didn't build that."</strong></p> <p>Perhaps the most infuriating part of De Blasio's interview with Hannity came at the 16:00 mark, when he stated that the workers are the ones that created the wealth, not the business owner. </p> <p>This is pure socialism, and it's absolutely wrong. </p> <p>If you'd like, trace back the origins of any business. Did it start by 600,000 people banding together, pooling their resources, to form Amazon.com? No, it started with Jeff Bezos packing books into boxes on his floor in his house. </p> <p>The workers have a job because the owner started the business. Risked the capital. After suffering through 31 minutes of the interview, we pinpointed 9 grossly manipulative statistics commonly spewed by B.S.</p> <p><strong>1. "Healthcare is a yuman right"</strong></p> <p>People need proper healthcare, don't get us wrong. With that in mind, can you say that healthcare is a "right?" </p> <p>What does it mean to have a right to something? You have a right to life, right? But that only means that you have a right to not have that life taken from you by an outside actor. The right to life does not mean that you have the right to force a doctor to perform a service for you. You would think that the right to life would mean that you also have a right to food(considering 100% of the population would die without food). Do you have a right to food? No. Don't believe me? Try going into your local grocery store, filling up your cart, and then leaving. Better yet, go to your local farmers land, and pick any amount of food you need. Then leave. </p> <p>You have the right to not be killed, but you do not have the right to force a service provider to perform a service for you. It is a basic principle that you cannot have a "right" to someone else time. That's called slavery.</p> <p><strong>2. "Canada's healthcare costs are half as much as the United States"</strong></p> <p>It is true that their total "costs" reported per capita is half. But what is behind the costs that are reported? In the US it is common place to receive a bill for $25,000 from just the surgeon on a medical procedure. Who pays that $25k? No one. In reality, the hospital or the surgeon are going to write a large portion of that expense off. If it isn't written off, they must have received a payment from the insurance company, but the insurance has a "contractual adjustment" on that bill- meaning they don't pay the full amount. </p> <p>The problem? That $25k is the price used in Bernie's statistic. In reality, total out of pocket costs for healthcare in 2017 was $318 billion. Far less than the $3.5 trillion statistic used by do-gooder politicians. </p> <p>Healthcare is too expensive, but experience has shown us that US government is not the entity to resort to if you want to decrease the cost of something. </p> <p><strong>3. His fight is stifled because lobbyists for drug companies are spreading misinformation.</strong></p> <p>No. The bulk of people disagree with Bernie's plan because we all have access to a calculator on our phones. </p> <p><strong>4. Costs are up because of profit- last year the top 10 drug companies made $69 billion. </strong></p> <p>Blaming "profit" for higher costs is a long-time go to for socialists/marxists.</p> <p>"Bloodsuckers, vampires, plunderers of the people and profiteers who fatten on famine." Vladamir Lenin prior to killing upwards of one million "Kulaks" in 1920's Russia. </p> <p>The $69 billion in profit made by the drug companies sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but it is absolutely nothing in relation to the cost of healthcare. If you were going to use the $3.5 trillion number used by Bernie sanders, then the profit of the drug companies represents .00001 of the cost in healthcare. 1/10,000th of the cost. Literally Elizabeth Warren is more Native American than drug companies' profit is a portion of healthcare costs. That's $197 for each person in the US last year. People are not struggling because the drug companies made $197 in profit from their drugs. In relation, you probably pay $130 per year just for Netflix. </p> <p><strong>5. <h3 class= "_3tkn1 _208Ie blog-post-header-three-font blog-post-header-three-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> The Gender Pay Gap</h3> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> During the debate, the question about how we address the perceived gap in wages between men and women went to Kamala Harris. She went on to state the statistic that we've all heard before, and that we've likely seen discredited several times. "Women are paid $.80 on the dollar. Black women $.61, Native American women $.58, Latina women $.53. These are common statistics used by many on the left to show that discrimination by men is alive and well in the United States. The only problem is - they are completely misrepresented statistics.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Let me be clear, I am not arguing that on the whole women are making the same money as men. In fact, if you look at those numbers speaking on total earnings by men, and total earnings by women, they are probably true. The problem is that those statistics are being used by politicians to make the case that men are still dominantly discriminating against their female counterparts. In truth, that isn't what those statistics show at all.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> What those statistics show is that when one gender tends to gravitate towards lower paying fields, that gender will be correctly represented as making a lower amount of money. That statement my be inconvenient, but it is not evidence that our society is a male dominated discriminatory patriarchy. It <em>is</em> evidence that if more women go into lower paying fields such as teaching or social work, and more men go into fields like Information Technology or Engineering, men are likely to have higher average earnings.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <h3 class= "_3tkn1 _208Ie blog-post-header-three-font blog-post-header-three-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Differences in career choices</h3> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> To take an honest look at whether or not discrimination is a remaining factor, we must first separate the variables in the equation. One of those variables is career choice. It is not enough to simply say "women make less than men" without considering the different occupations each of the respective genders gravitate towards. Would it make sense to say that "Social Workers make less than Chemical Engineers, therefore we have evidence that there is rampant gender discrimination in the US..?" No, it sure wouldn't, yet that's what politicians are basically saying. I'm not saying that women don't go into engineering, and men don't go into social work, but the data are certainly clear that there are differences in the career choices made by each gender by en-large.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Let's look at a study from the American Association of University Women (AAUW), which measured median pay for the 15 majors most highly dominated by each gender. </p> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </p> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-co --- Support this podcast: <a href="https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support" rel="payment">https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support</a>

The twins died shortly after birth with drugs in their system.</p> <p>This story highlights the subjective principles in the abortion debate. Tennessee has a law superseding the US Supreme Court when defining "fetus viability." TN defining at 23 weeks, and the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade defining viability at 26 weeks. </p> <p>In addition to the legal standards, we have the moral principle in killing an unborn child. <p>Yesterday Rand Paul and Mike Lee forced a bill delay on the <a href= "https://www.washingtonpost.com/?utm_term=.d354189bc9f3">9/11 First Responders bill</a>. This bill allowed an unlimited amount of funding for 9/11 first responders and their families for the next 72 years. </p> <p>The media, left wing, and right wing, have portrayed this as a blocking of the bill. They have portrayed this as stopping money from going out to the responders themselves.</p> <p>The Problem?</p> <p>That isn't true at all. What Rand Paul did, as he did with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, was force a vote on and amendment adding something called a "Pay For" into the bill. </p> <p>What most people don't know is that originally, there was something called a "Pay-Go" provision in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. That meant that the next step following the tax cuts was to cut spending in the budget to meet a potential reduction in income. </p> <p>Speaking of a reduction in income, the tax revenue as a percentage of the Federal tax receipts <a href= "https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2018/06/movement-of-the-federal-tax-receipt-front/?utm_source=series_page&utm_medium=related_content&utm_term=related_resources&utm_campaign=fredblog"> has increased</a> since the passage of the tax cut. That's right, they cut taxes and are taking in more money. </p> <p>Rand Paul himself said in an interview with Neil Cavuto, that the 9/11 bill will still come to a vote next week, and it will pass. All he asked was to add an amendment to the bill saying that the money needed to come from another part of the Governments +$4,200,000,000,000 budget. </p> <p>He named ceasing funding for a study that is studying the sex habits of Japanese Quail while high on cocaine. <p>Today I gave my views on the current immigration crisis. Regardless of what has been played in the news, I do not believe that Republicans are against illegal immigration because they inherently hate brown people. </p> <p>My firm belief is that it is the Income Tax that is the major hold up for a viable solution on immigration. The total debt sits around $1.6 trillion right now. Several politicians, including Senator Bernie Sanders, have proposed plans to "cancel" student debt, and make all college tuition free.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> There are a couple things we need to get out of the way. First off, the government has been involved in the subsidization of student loans since 1958, with the passage of the <a class= "_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _3sz0l" href= "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_loans_in_the_United_States#cite_note-43" target="_top" rel="noopener">National Defense Education Act</a>. At that time, the governments involvement was limited to college degrees including science, technology, math, or engineering. It should come as no surprise that it only took 7 years for the feds to decide they needed more than just control over the STEM fields.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> In 1965, they passed the <a class= "_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _3sz0l" href= "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_loans_in_the_United_States#cite_note-43" target="_top" rel="noopener">Higher Education Act.</a> The stated goal of the HEA was to promote "greater social mobility". The HEA has been the doorway to the federal government's full involvement in college education. At that time, they were able to start subsidizing or guaranteeing <strong><em>all</em></strong> student loans.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> The cost of college began to rise with the involvement of government subsidies, as we've seen in most other industries (look at a graph of medical costs following the passage of Medicare). As you would read in <em>Basic Economics</em> by Thomas Sowell, the artificial demand created by government stimulus resulted in a shortage of supply, leading to higher prices. Your high school economics lessons will teach you that creating a virtually unlimited demand will cause higher prices 100% of the time.</p> <div class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_">  </div> <p class= "XzvDs _208Ie _2Dym_ blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _2R0Lu _2Dym_"> Although the cost of degrees were already on the rise, the greatest acceleration happened in 2010, when the government completely took over the student loan process with the <a class= "_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _3sz0l" href= "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_loans_in_the_United_States#cite_note-43" target="_top" rel="noopener">Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act</a>. That title definitely hits the top 10 most "Ironic Congressional Act" titles in my book. It's right up the with the "Affordable Care Act," and "No Child Left Behind." Up to this point, private institutions were still involved in the lending process, but all loans given by private lenders were guaranteed by the US Government. <p>It's that time of year again. It's Amazon Prime Day. As a Free-Market Capitalist, you have to rejoice in the fact that this day exists. </p> <p>You can literally buy everything you need on Amazon, and have it delivered to your house in two days. Sometimes, you can have it delivered in as little as two hours. </p> <p>We have to sit back and ask the question, "Why does this exist?" Well, put simply, it exists because someone wanted to make money. Maybe that sounds selfish or greedy, but that's only if you have a negative view of money, itself. </p> <p>Money, as always, is a representation of value that you have provided to others. In a free-market system, that is. If you pay $1 for a cup of coffee, it is only because you value that cup of coffee more than you valued the dollar. On the flip side, the vendor only sold you the coffee because they valued the dollar more than they valued the coffee. As simple as it is, that small example works for all things in a free-market economy. </p> <p>If you hold the above view of money, then you are less likely to look down upon the desire to make money by starting your own business. As long as you are operating in a free economy, you would only be able to make money by providing products or services that the population value. If it wasn't deemed valuable, you would never make the money. </p> <p>So now we arrive back at the fact that someone started Amazon to make money. Good! </p> <p>As a study on the effects of Walmart found, the average American family saves over $2,500 per year simply because Walmart exists, whether they shop at Walmart or not. How? All of the competing retailers and grocery stores must find ways to lower their costs/prices so they remain competitive with Walmart for your business. </p> <p>We see the same thing with Amazon. In our podcast episode, we detail out the amazing fact that today and tomorrow, not only do you have the option to shop at a large discount at Amazon, but Target and Walmart are both running massive online sales to compete with Amazon for your business. This means that Amazon is saving you money, even if you don't have a Prime membership, or shop at Amazon.com for any of your goods. </p> <p>That's the amazing part about Capitalism and the Free-Market. No government issued an order today stating that Amazon must lower their prices, and no regulative body issued an order stating that Walmart and Target must lower their prices to match Amazon. That's the power of a free and competitive market. </p> <p>So who wins in this scenario? Well certainly Jeff Bezos and thousands of other Amazon investors, but also the hundreds of millions of people that use Amazon, Walmart, and Target. The economy as a whole wins because the opportunity to allocate dollars to more efficient uses has now presented itself. </p> <p>The rest of the beauty? You don't have to shop at Amazon today, or tomorrow. You can spend more elsewhere, make your own products, or buy from a local vendor. Amazon is not forcing you to use their services. Is it okay to trade a 5% gain in "Real family income" for 1.3 million people losing their jobs? You've seen this flag before. Any time I see this one I think of Mel Gibson waving the flag after taking the battlefield at the end of "The Patriot." It featured the usual 13 stripes, but had a circle of 13 stars in the corner, both of which represented the original 13 colonies of America. This nearly forgotten antique flag was brought into the spotlight after Collin Kaepernick persuaded Nike to drop their "racist" design before bringing them to market in time for July 4th celebrations across the country. Mainly we'll discuss some of the insane comments we've seen made by Republicans, and yes, even President Trump. </p> <p>If your number one goal is to protect the constitution and to further individual liberty, how is it a good thing that Amash is no longer a part of your party? He happens to hold a 100% rating from FreedomWorks, and a 94% on the Freedom Index when it comes to voting in accordance with the US Constitution. This puts him well above most Republicans, but maybe that's not what a Republican is anymore. It seems that they are more concerned with allegiance to the party and the President than allegiance to the Constitution. </p> <p>We'll also take on the controversy surrounding NIKE and their recent decision to ban the "Betsy Ross" flag from their shoe designs. <p>This is a quick five minute history on the collapse of the Weimar Republic- which was another name for "Germany" before WWII. When inflation hit 80 billion percent in just 3 years, the German government needed a scapegoat. As usual throughout history, they found it easy to blame those that were doing better than others for the cause of the rest of the nations woes. <p>This is a short history of the "Kulaks." A "Kulak" was the name for a wealthy peasant in 1920's Russia. They were the farmers. Even having an acre or two more, or one more cow, would get you the label of Kulak. When times were rough, Lenin and Stalin pointed the masses to the Kulaks as the reason for all their suffrage.</p> <p>What happened next was the inevitable ending of class warfare. It is the implied logical conclusion that comes from pointing at one class and saying that they are to blame for your problems.</p> <p>Almost a million Kulaks were murdered. Here's how insane this ideology is- The Kulaks were the ones that knew how to grow food.
