What is Liberty?

What is Liberty? It's a rather cliche word that we use all the time, but when asked, I don't think many could give their definition of the word. Today I offered up my definition. I hope this helps.

Liberty is YOU. It's everything that makes you a unique individual.

It's your- thoughts

words

actions

needs

wants

desires

aspirations

likes

dislikes

What you want to do in your life

Who you spend your life with

Who you worship

and who you don't

The important part to remember about "Liberty" is that it's you and everything that makes you, you. This liberty comes with a mutual understanding. Everyone else has that same liberty, too. Neither party may act in a way that impedes the other's ability to act on those things. Your liberty cannot not remove the liberties of another individual.

In shorter words: Your Liberty ends, where another's begins.

When we say we care about "Liberty." That's what we mean. That's why we're Libertarians.

Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more great articles on politics, economics, and Libertarian ideology.

Visit www.BernieLies.com if you want to read specifically about the many lies told by one of America's greatest manipulators.

Get your own "Bernie Lies" T-Shirt on our Etsy store.

In Liberty,

Charlie & Nate

P.S. Amazon is NOT a Monopoly.

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

Today we talked about a conversation we had with a Democratic Socialist. In the conversation, this person asserted that Amazon is essentially a "monopoly." This is a common theme thrown about by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, and unfortunately it's a theme that has stuck with those on the left and even some of those on the right.

What is a monopoly? Is it simply a large share of any given market? Or is it more complicated than that? For example, you might open the first tattoo shop in your small home town, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have a monopoly. Why? Because you aren't doing anything to keep other competitors from entering that market.

In that same light, can we simply state that Amazon is a monopoly? A quick dive into the figures will show you that they only constitute 49% of all online retail sales, and an even smaller number, 5%, of a retail sales in general. Can we seriously state that a business that only makes up 5% of a total market is obviously a monopoly? Seems like more political theater and demagoguery to me.

P.S. Greta Thunberg is a victim of Child Abuse | Sho...

Today on the podcast, we once again discussed Greta Thunberg, and our opinion that she is the victim of mental abuse. Not from those on the right that are critiquing her, but by her parents, the leftists, and the media for raising her under the notion that her world will soon be destroyed. You can read our article laying out this point here.

The other issue we discussed is a new study from the Environmental Working Group stating that as many as 100,000 cases of cancer could arise over a lifetime that are linked to contaminants legally found in your drinking water. The study's lead author said, "We want people to realize that water that meets legal specifications may still cause health risks based on the latest science." Ah, "the latest science...." I'm sure that prior to this study the science was "settled."

If this is the case, do those suffering from related cancers have any legal redress against the government for providing water that causes cancer? Probably not. My thoughts immediately go to the famous Erin Brockovich story, where residents of Hinkley, CA sued PG & E for providing them with contaminated water. They received $400M in a class action suit, which applied here would mean someone is liable for around $40 billion in damages. If it is found that it is "the government" that is liable, then no one wins. Heck, even if the government did pay up, it would be with your money. Imagine if PG&E could have seized Hinkley's bank accounts to pay the settlement owed to the residents.

Get the link to our podcast on your favorite podcast app here.

Young Americans for Liberty is an amazing organization doing great work around the country on hundreds of college campuses. They've done great work organizing door-knocking campaigns for liberty-minded representatives around the U.S., and have an amazing goal to get 250 Liberty Legislators in office. New Netflix Documentary Accidentally Shows How ...
Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. Today we talked about Netflix's new documentary on Bill Gates, and the "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation." In the new documentary, Netflix details how Gates is using his massive wealth to eradicate diseases in Africa, and even how he effectively reinvented nuclear power technology. Gates, along with his wife, and billionaire investor Warren Buffet have combined their wealth to pursue philanthropy around the world. This is a great thing, and I think it sets the model for how other billionaires should use their massive stock piles of wealth. The other point that needs to be made is that all of the work they are doing would not be possible if not for the incentives created by Capitalism. Yes, Capitalism can indeed continue it's evil quest to continue saving the entire world. We also detail Gates' reinvention of Nuclear power. Nuclear is seen as dangerous by almost everybody. Even Gates admits that his battle is with "public perception." Why is that his battle? Because the government regulates the industry, and the government is known to bend to public perception, even when the public is flat out wrong. How could they be wrong? What about Fukushima, Chernobyl, and 3-Mile Island? Gates, along with a massive group of scientists, have completely reinvented Nuclear power. Their new plant emits 0 carbon emissions, and runs on an entirely different system than our current "slide-rule" era power plants. Using depleted uranium is just the start. They also developed a new way to cool the reactor using liquid metal, not the water based cooling system that has failed and caused the meltdowns in the past. All of the new innovations aside, Gates can't get around the Department of Energy's regulations on Nuclear power. One workaround to test the new plant was to build in China, a country that is still heavily invested in nuclear energy. That plan, however, was foiled by the recent trade war in which the Department of Energy refused to renew licenses for companies operating in China. Could Gates have actually solved the left's "Climate Crisis?" Maybe so. That begs the question: Why won't they acknowledge nuclear energy as a possibility. In speculation, I would say that liberals are reluctant to speak of solutions that don't require massive growth of government, and a massive hike in taxation. Hey Kids, Climate Alarmists Have Been Flat-out ...
Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. From our article: Yesterday, "Teen Activists" Jamie Margolin, and Greta Thunberg went in front of congress to berate them about doing nothing on the issue of Climate Change. They called Republican lawmakers "Shameful" and "Cowardly." Here's the problem: Kids don’t know anything, other than what they've been told. That's why the left and the right so commonly spare over education. They are parrots. If you ask a kid to say something, and then turn the camera on, they'll say it. Children are now being used by the left to make cute videos about complex issues, and since it's a child talking- the content and the messenger are protected from criticism. This girl has not considered the economic repercussions of taking all of the money in our entire economy and putting it behind technology that isn't even fully developed. If this 17 year old girl were telling you that she loved her boyfriend and knew that they were going to spend the rest of their life together, your immediate response would be "sure kid, I get it, but you don't even understand how much you don't understand about relationships." It’s actually a great representation of the ideological views on the left. Ignorantly spewing feelings, seldom backed by long term data, and wishing that no one could challenge your beliefs. Well, they have that outcome in using children. Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us to continue reading.. That's right, it's time to talk about Brett Kavanaugh again. Apparently the left are out of fresh talking points and would like your attention diverted to the ongoing "War on Women."

We also discussed the real issue from the weekend. That's the bombing that took place on the oil fields in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is of course blaming Iran, and is "locked and loaded" ready to do the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's bidding at the moment of their choosing.

Why is it our job to conduct the first strike on Iran? Saudi Arabia has a military- a pretty big one. They actually spend 8x more money than Iran on their military. They are in fact the 3rd largest military in relation to GDP in the world, and #2 in relation to their Government budget.

Saudi is a nation of 30 million people. That makes them matched with Canada and Australia in population size. Not exactly a tiny country that cannot be expected to defend itself.

When we look at the desire for war held by those on the right, and even the left, we need to ask who we are defending, and why.

Saudi Arabia has a terrible history when it comes to human rights. Their treatment of women is despicable.

Women are still not allowed to travel or conduct business without permission from their male guardians. They only last year received the right to drive a car. They are not allowed to swear an oath in court- their male guardian must swear the oath.

They have a deep and ongoing history of persecution against homosexuals, and women who step out of line.

Why are we ready to send our son, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters, to die for them?

Why are we so eager to die for them, when they have their own military? Why is it not on S.A. to retaliate against Iran?

Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more great articles on politics, economics, and Libertarian ideology.

Visit www.BernieLies.com if you want to read specifically about the many lies told by one of America's greatest manipulators.

Get your own "Bernie Lies" T-Shirt on our Etsy store.

In Liberty,

Charlie & Nate

P.S. First, I'd ague that they have had a great effect on the economy, but let's dissect why they aren't looking as good in action as they did on paper.

The Trump tax cuts were a big win for big corporations, as well as a big win for all the small corporations that we seem to ignore. The corporate tax rate was reduced from 35% to 22.5%, equaling a reduction of roughly 33% in the tax rate owed by businesses.

Republicans branded this tax cut as a major win for America. This is a great example of those on the ideological left practicing what they preach. Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal" is full of eco...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

Today on the show we talked about a murder trial from the '90's down in Texas that end with an execution last week. Needless to say, the prosecution brought questionable evidence, and the convicted murderer spoke of his innocence until his final words.

If the government is inefficient, corrupt, and all to powerful, should we still allow the death penalty? We try to answer this difficult question on the first half of the podcast.

Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal"

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders released his plan for a $16.3 trillion spending package dubbed the "Green New Deal," blatantly stealing the name of the massive plan laid out earlier in the year by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

I spent several hours running through this plan line by line today, and arrived at a pretty simple conclusion:

If you care about the environment, if you care about the poor, if you care about innovation, or the economic stability of the country, then you must consider the argument that the government is the worst possible entity to accomplish those goals.

Bernie's plan calls for a complete replacement of:

The power grid

all automobiles

all school buses

all shipping vehicles (semis)

all gas stations

and nearly all roads

It also promises to create 20 million new "high-paying" jobs, and eliminate unemployment. In the elimination of unemployment, it suggests that the need for a welfare state will dissipate, since everyone will have a high paying job. Of course, that's a high-paying job paid for with tax dollars, something that will first have to be stolen from the economy.

Let me be clear. It is probably a bad thing to remove carbon from the ground, and place it into the air. Im not refuting that suggestion, but I will question the idea that we are nearing a "climate catastrophe." I'll also question the idea that this is purely man-made (can we call sexism on that term?), and that anything the United States does can have any effect on the situation.

This plan seizes control of the entire energy sector, and promises to remove "greed" from the equation by leaving all power to be supplied by publicly owned companies. If Bernie has a room full of angels waiting to take the reins, I suggest he disperse them elsewhere immediately.

This comes down to one question: Who is more effective at innovation, and efficiency- private entities, or the government?

I could use the example of NASA vs. SpaceX. Through 60 years of innovation, NASA was able to get the cost of sending a satellite to space down to $600 million. To ad to that fact, they were producing new rockets with each launch. In 10 years, Elon Musk and SpaceX were able to reduce the cost of sending things into space down to $60 million. A tenth of the price if you don't have your calculator handy. In addition to that, they developed a way to fly the rockets back to the launch pad to save money. That wasn't enough.. They then produced a drone ship that would become a mobile landing pad for the rockets, since due to the arch of the launch and the rotation of the earth the rocket would be re-entering over water, and boat fuel is cheaper than rocket fuel.

Think what you may about profit, but the motive for profit saves us money. Take into consideration the fact that in the Russians heyday, an automobile cost 3x as much to produce in the Soviet Union, even though profit was illegal. Remember, Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile. He simply found a way to mass produce it in a way t --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

Here's Why the Tump Tax Cuts Might Not be Havin...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

I've read a few articles lately about how the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" of 2017 isn't having the desired effect.

It was going to lead to higher wages, more jobs, and the repatriation of funds and operations back to the good ole U.S. of A. Since the enactment of this law, we've seen reports of 3.5% GDP growth, but as we normally see afterwards, a revised number that sits around 2.8%. In addition to that, wages paid by companies seem to have shown little movement in the process.

To me, this logic is simple. If you want to actually see the effects that were advertised by Republican's in the passage of this law, the tax cuts have to be made permanent.

Imagine you are the owner of a business. You run on roughly an 8% net profit margin yearly (the average for a Fortune 500 company), and now you've seen a 33% reduction in your corporate tax rate. You have a few options: Raise your employees wages, Re-invest money in future innovation, or take the profit and run, among other things.

There's an issue with expecting businesses to raise their wages in response to these cuts; they are temporary. How many times have you expected your wage to go down after your company's profit margin decreased? Probably never. How many times have you expected your pay to go up if the profit margins increased? Probably always.

What the big corporations did was a mixture of those previous three options from above.

Many corporations did raise wages in response to the tax cuts. Walmart comes to mind, who raised their minimum wage to $11 an hour for all employees. The bulk of the increased compensation came from bonuses paid to employees.

Why would a business opt for a bonus, instead of a raise in their employee's wages?

Simple. Yes they have the money for the increased wages now, but they know the tax cuts aren't going to last, and we all know that employees aren't going to be okay with a reduction in their wages when future President Kamala Harris raises the corporate tax rate to 70%. Therefore, they give out a bonus, en lieu of a pay raise.

In addition to the missed increase in wages, we've also seen less "repatriation" and less increases in business investment.

Why wouldn't the corporations opt for more repatriation and more investment?

Once again, the answer is simple. Contrary to popular opinion, people who run businesses are pretty smart. They hear the rhetoric spewed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Etc.

It takes years to open a new facility, repatriate money, move plants, or any of the things people are waiting for them to do. If your time horizon is more than five years, would you trust that the business climate will be the same in five years as it is right now? No

If you want these corporations to actually make investments in the U.S., to actually raise wages, or actually move their offshore accounts back to Bank of America, then you need to make the tax cuts permanent. Bottom Line.

Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more great articles on politics, economics, and Libert --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

ANTIFA are Domestic Terrorists | Fighting Viole...

Hey everyone!

First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link.

Today we discussed this weekend's clash between members of ANTIFA and member of the "Proud Boys."

Antifa claims to stand against Fascism, but they stand against that fascism with the use of violent Communism. Throughout history, neither of those ideologies have been beneficial for the ordinary individual.

It's time for law enforcement in Portland, OR to step up and arrest these people. We fully support your right to protest, but if you are removing rights from others, then you need to be subjected to the full extend of the law. If government has one job, it's to make sure that we are all safe, and it's clear innocent bystanders in Portland are not safe.

We also discussed our local high school back home in Illinois, and their decision to subject students to random drug screenings.

The administration of Vienna High School has announced plans to conduct randomized drug screenings on their student body. The plan will assign a number to each student, and randomly draw numbers throughout the year. Let me first say that we absolutely agree that teenagers should not be doing drugs, and we appreciate the intent behind this new policy.

However, these drug screenings should not be mandatory. Meaning, the students' parents should have the right to opt their children out of the program. As of right now, "consent" will be considered as participation in extra-curricular activities, or driving your own vehicle to school.

The implied consent by participation in extra-curricular activities is closer to agreeable in my book, being that it is your choice to join or not join those activities. On the contrast, implied consent by way of "you drive your car to school" is further out of bounds, considering the fact that you are faced to attend the school. Were this a private school implementing the policy, I would be 100% on board, since you chose to attend that school.

There's a fine line being treaded with this policy. On one hand, it's morally defendable that this policy be included in your child's schooling, but on the other, it's removing your right as a parent to consent to your child being swabbed, or to their urine being collected by school officials.

To me, it's not obvious that this policy will have the desired effect. When I was in high school, it was considered "cool" to break the rules. Any seemingly arbitrary rule was a target for rebellion among the students. Your "cool" points were likely to go up if you found ways around them, potentially leading to a higher social status. Sometimes, we broke rules that we would have not otherwise broken, if they weren't rules.

I would be slightly worried of an adverse effect from this new policy. That is, the possibility that students will attempt to break this rule, when they might not otherwise have participated in the dangerous acts in the first place.

Responsibility

We talk a lot about responsibility on our podcast. In our eyes, the refusal to accept responsibility in all facets of life has lead to the societal situations we see playing out in politics right now.

When do the responsibilities of the parents end, and the responsibilities of the schools begin? In my eyes, this is yet another attempt to remove parental responsibilities from parents, and place them on arbitrary rules set by government (the school).

If I were a parent, I would sign a consent for if given the opportunity by my child's school. That however does not mean that I believe all the other children should be forced to do so.

Drug testing kits ca --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support
