The ghost ship Jenny is one of those eerie sea tales that gives you chills. In 1840, a whaling ship discovered Jenny frozen solid in the Drake Passage, near Antarctica. The crew was found perfectly preserved, still frozen in their last moments, with the captain’s log detailing their desperate struggle against the cold. Ever wondered if strong winds could actually sink a cruise ship? The short answer is: it’s possible, but super unlikely. Modern cruise ships are designed to handle crazy weather, with stabilizers to reduce rocking and engines powerful enough to steer through storms. Even hurricane-force winds would usually only make things bumpy, not sink the ship. The area around Sunset Crater is especially eerie, with dark volcanic rock and a landscape that feels like you’re on another planet. Even though they’re quiet now, these volcanoes still tell the story of a time when Arizona’s land was shaped by powerful forces from deep inside the Earth.
