This Desert Is Twice the Size of the Sahara + 2...
Did you know that that we live inside the Sun? Its atmosphere stretches far beyond its visible surface, and even though Earth is far away from the star, it's still within the reach of the Sun's atmosphere. The Earth absorbs heat from the Sun, mostly on the surface, but the heat doesn't spread equally on all parts of the Earth. One side of the planet, the Pacific hemisphere, is losing heat more quickly than another, the African hemisphere. There are many cool facts about our planet that not so many people know about. #brightside Preview photo credit: Morlighem, M. (2022). MEaSUREs BedMachine Antarctica, Version 3 [Data Set]. What Happens to Your Body When a Snake Bites You
What happens when a snake bites you? Well, if it isn’t venomous, consider yourself lucky: you’re probably gonna be fine. Still, any snake’s fangs carry thousands of bacteria on them, and the most terrifying of them cause tetanus. Worse still, you might be that unfortunate person to have an allergy to snake saliva. So even if you’ve been bitten by a non-venomous snake, call for help pronto. But there’s a worse scenario: the snake was indeed venomous. Every snake species has its own kind of venom that acts differently from others. It can affect either heart and nerves, muscles, or blood vessels. It always starts with a sharp pain at the place of bite. The snake opened its mouth wide, punctured your flesh with its two upper fangs, and injected its venom through the channels inside them. The venom goes straight into your bloodstream, and that’s when the real black magic begins...

If Mosquitos Bite You More Than Others, Here's Why
Statistically, only about one in ten people are particularly attractive to mosquitoes. There are lots of theories about why mosquitoes attack some people whilst leaving others alone. There's some proof that people with type O blood are the most popular among mosquitoes. The next preferred blood type is type A. Skeeters are great learners. They know how to connect some cues, for example, your smell, with how delicious your blood is. If they like it, they might visit you again and again. Mosquitoes' penchant for picking you over others might not be about your blood. These buzzers are extremely skilled hunters. They pick up on the chemicals your body gives off. Their antennae have more than 70 different receptors! Whether an insect likes your smell or not also depends on your genetics and the bacteria living on your skin. If some of your relatives get bitten by mosquitoes more often than other people, you might have the same problem on your hands.

Africa Is Tearing Apart Much Faster Than Expected
Africa is splitting in two, and it’s happening way faster than scientists thought! 🌍⚡ A massive crack is forming along the East African Rift, slowly breaking the continent apart. One day—millions of years from now—a new ocean could form right in the middle! 🌊 Scientists have been tracking this shift, and recent studies show that the process is speeding up. Earth’s plates are moving beneath our feet all the time, but this is a huge transformation. Who knows? In the distant future, we might have a whole new continent floating in the ocean! Why the Titanic Had a Fake Chimney
Did you know the Titanic had a fake chimney? It actually had three working chimneys, but the fourth one was just for show! This extra "dummy" chimney was added to make the ship look more powerful and balanced, giving passengers more confidence in its strength and speed. It also provided extra ventilation for the kitchen and engine rooms. It's one of those quirky design choices that make the Titanic's story even more fascinating! #brightside Animation is created by Bright Side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music from TheSoul Sound: https://thesoul-sound.com/ Listen to Bright Side on: Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0hUkPxD... Why No One Built a Bridge Between Europe and Af...
Building a bridge between Europe and Africa sounds amazing, but it’s way trickier than it seems. The Strait of Gibraltar, where the two continents are closest, is about 8 miles wide, but the water there is super deep—up to 3,000 feet in some places! On top of that, the area is really windy and has strong currents, which makes construction extra challenging. Engineers have proposed ideas, like floating tunnels or super-long suspension bridges, but they’d cost a fortune and would still face massive technical hurdles. Political and economic challenges also come into play, as such a bridge would require cooperation between multiple countries. For now, ferries do the job, and most people find them convenient enough.
