Tina Brown on The Vanity Fair Diaries, plus Adv...
Tina Brown, editor extraordinaire-author-longtime favorite guest, joins Satellite Sisters Lian, Liz and Julie for a lively, thoughtful, personal discussion about her new book The Vanity Fair Diaries. Plus, she offers advice to Meghan Markle, the American woman about to marry Prince Harry. Brown, who was very close to Prince Harry's mother Diana, has a unique take on this transition from Hollywood TV star to British royalty and a little bit of a warning, too. Vanity Fair Diaries is Tina Brown's contemporaneous diaries from the days when she hit New York as the shiny new editor of the struggling glossy magazine Vanity Fair. This is a remarkable woman's adventures in a glittering and scorching era: 1983 - 1992. New To You: Julie's Fave Pick from 2012
Julie picked this favorite episode from 2012 because she loves hearing Sheila and Monica. Ask Sheila any question about her Oscar picks and her answer is Ryan Gosling, despite the fact that he is not nominated for anything. Oh, well. Ask Julie about her Oscar picks and the answer is pretty much "Please. Anyone but The Artist!." Here's Julie's pitch: "It is Oscar time 2012 and Sheila has an excellent Entertaining Sheila report direct from her Cozy Couch. Monica and Liz have their own picks and pans and Oscar-watching strategies for the big night. As usual, I’m a beat behind on all things Hollywood but I did manage to get face-to-face with Adam Levine at Mardi Gras. I also have an excellent business proposition for Liz. I suggest we launch an alternative to the Apple Store that's less intimidating. Fewer nerds and geniuses please! You know, it still sounds good to me in 2017. And all the sisters love the listener idea of holding a Carry-On Coat Contest. You'll just have to listen to understand. There is excitement is in the air on this podcast."   Also, Liz recommends an audiobook in the spirit of the Satellite Sisterhood. It's Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?  For great Satellite Sisters gifts, visit our online shop, go here.  To subscribe to Satellite Sisters on Apple Podcasts, click here.  To subscribe to Satellite Sisters on Stitcher, click here. Camping. A sure sign that the Eclipseolypse was upon us. Monica was doing sunrise yoga and listening to a Portlandia-inspired astronomer dude in Salem, Oregon at Brooks Winery. Jill, friend of the Satellite Sisterhood/former producer on The Oprah Winfrey Show/podcast producer, was in Saluki Stadium in Carbondale, IL after convincing her dubious husband that the totality was the only place to spend her birthday. Julie and Lian file their reports from the partiality. Julie concludes that "much joy was to be had" on her end, while Lian has a beef with some "toddler talk" on hers. Lian also joyfully provides a complete round-up of the eclipse love that all the Satellite Sisters shared with us on the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group.  You must take in all the happy photos there right now! Sisters from coast-to-coast, from the top of Mount Whitney to their own lounge chairs in their driveways. You're the best, Satellite Sisterhood. Thank you for your enthusiasm and embrace of this awesome celestial event. Eclipse 2017 Spectacular: Astronomer Robert Kir...
Eclipse 2017 Spectacular: Astronomer Robert Kirshner Explains All To The Satellite Sisters. Satellite Sisters Liz Dolan, Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan are joined by noted astronomer Dr. Robert Kirshner in a special podcast episode devoted entirely to #Eclipse2017 which will sweep across the United States on August 21. The Satellite Sisters know Kirshner as Cousin Bob, the family astronomer. He is also the Clowes Professor of Science at Harvard University and the Chief Program Officer for Science at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in Palo Alto, CA. On this Satellite Sisters Eclipse 2017 special podcast episode, Dr. Kirshner recommends some key resources for everyone interested in enjoying the historic celestial event. The Moore Foundation has distributed eclipse glasses to thousands of public libraries throughout the country. For complete information on a site near you and an information guide, go to starnetlibraries.org. For additional authoritative information on Eclipse 2017, go to Great American Eclipse.  In this entertaining and informative interview from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kirshner explains what makes the human experience of "the totality" so unique. Liz Dolan will be among the millions of Americans who have positioned themselves in that narrow band for the 100% eclipse. And for those who live in parts of the country where they will view a partial eclipse, including Lian Dolan in Pasadena CA and Julie Dolan in Dallas TX, he has advice for maximum enjoyment + safety. Kirshner also describes what scientists will be able to observe and learn during the historic eclipse. On August 21, he will be at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Sun Valley, Idaho, which is in the path of totally, of course. Robert Kirshner's book The Extravagant Universe: Exploding Stars, Dark Energy and The Accelerating Cosmos is available at amazon.  The Satellite Sisters will host a second Eclipse 2017 on Tuesday August 22 to discuss their experiences. If you wish to post messages about your experiences to be shared on that podcast special, please join the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group. Follow the Satellite Sisters on Twitter and Instagram @SatSisters. Princess Diana, Martha Stewart, Summer Salads, ...
Satellite Sisters podcast is brought to you by Harrys.com and Rover.com. On today's Satellite Sisters podcast, Lian Dolan, Julie Dolan and Liz Dolan announce plans for two special episodes about the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse, share their disappointment with Michael Phelps vs Shark and share their love of a heartbreaking new Princess Diana HBO documentary called Diana Our Mother and a classic episode of Say Yes To The Dress with guest star Martha Stewart. There she is in all of her chilly glory! First up, on August 1, 2017 we will release Eclipseolypse 2017: The Satellite Sisters interview astronomer Robert Kirshner PhD.  Dr. Kirshner is one of the world's leading astrophysicists, the Clowes Professor of Science at Harvard University, the Chief Science Officer at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and, perhaps most importantly, our cousin Bobby. Thank goodness we have a family astronomer to help us understand everything we need to know about eclipses before the big event on August 21. Our second Eclipseolypse 2017 Satellite Sisters Special will drop on August 22, the day after Liz and Monica have experienced the totality. Be sure you have subscribed to Satellite Sisters on Apple Podcasts or Stitcher so that you get both of these special episodes. Lian is outraged that the international governing body of of swimming called FINA changed the name of Synchronized Swimming to Artistic Swimming. We have taken a pledge to never use that name even though they do wear nose clips and makeup. It's an incredibly athletic event. Let the athletes sound like athletes! Lian is still sniffling after viewing HBO's documentary about Princess Diana called XXXX. It features really moving personal interviews with her sons Will and Harry. We miss you, Diana. In Lian's downtime, there's nothing she enjoys more than bingeing on Say Yes To The Dress. This weekend she found the best episode ever. Martha Stewart as special guest in all her chilly Martha-ness. You have to find it and watch. Julie had a great Nana Camp experience crafting with a cool kit from Skullduggery. Good thing she had 10 year old Alice there to explain it to her! Success.  Easy Breezy! It's summer so we are required to talk about summer salads. Lian shares a recipe and her secret ingredient. And Julie has one Tuesday trend about the woman who invented the self-cleaning house. Sounds great until you realize that it's like living inside a dishwasher. Liz has a stalement with a neighbor in the parking garage. Grrrrrrr. Followed by a total fail at Meditation Class. Those two things might be related. Operation Sea Turtle struggles along. On today's podcast, Liz Dolan, Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan tackle the secret drug-fueled life of a USC med school dean, Julie's annual Nana Camp strategy, Lian's personal growth since college and Liz's suggestions for the new CEO of Uber. Plus Lian vs LPGA dress code, Michael Phelps vs Shark, Royal Report and Liz's new used car. Thanks to all of our sponsors including Honest Tea and Harry's. Go here for links to all of our sponsors. First up, how fast are you listening to us? Julie says speed listening to podcasts is the latest thing. Scandal in Lian's hometown of Pasadena. You must read this L A Times tale of a USC med school dean, his years of drug fueled parties and the meth overdose in the Hotel Constance that brought this to light. He will never lead the Rose Parade, that's for sure.  Hello, LPGA. Just when Lian was totally onboard you go and announce a dress code for the LPGA players that she just cannot support. Save the short. LET THEM WEAR SKORTS! Julie thinks Michael Phelps vs Shark is the equivalent of Roger Federer vs Bear. It's beneath his stature as a great champion. Lian's all for it. Do we need some Floaty-Pants to watch that? Who should run Uber?  Liz does some handicapping of the current candidates and suggests a novel sisters-oriented solution. Lian is in a Masterclass with Aaron Sorkin: You've seen the ads on Facebook for all those famous people teaching classes- Dustin Hoffman on Acting; Hans Zimmer on Music; Usher on Performance. Are they really worth it? Lian says yes. https://www.masterclass.com Julie's Royal Report: The Duchess of Cambridge's wardrobe strategy impresses. Liz's Operation Sea Turtle report: There was a a mutiny at Deep Water Aerobics this Sunday. Plus, Liz buys a new used car and the hardest thing is opening the gas tank. Liz recommends the movie version of the Broadway play Falsettos. It's playing around the country for just a few weeks right now. Find Falsetto shows here.  To access our complete Satellite Sisters show archive, click here. At thirty-eight, Lillian Curtis is content with her life. She enjoys her routine as a producer for a talk show in New York City starring showbiz veteran Vi (“short for vibrant”) Barbour, a spirited senior. Lillian’s relationship with her husband is pleasant if no longer exciting. Most nights she is more than happy to come home to her apartment and crawl into her pajamas. Then she’s hit with a piece of shocking news: Her husband wants a divorce. Blindsided, Lillian takes a leave of absence and moves back to her parents’ home in suburban New Jersey. Nestled in her childhood bedroom, where Duran Duran and Squeeze posters still cover the walls, she finds high school memories a healing salve to her troubles. She hurtles backward into her teen years, driving too fast, digging up mix tapes, and tentatively reconciling with Dawn, a childhood friend she once betrayed. Punctuating her stroll down memory lane is an invitation to the Bethel Memorial High School class of 1988 twenty-year reunion. It just might be Lillian’s chance to reconnect with her long-lost boyfriend, Christian Somers, who is expected to attend. Will it be just like heaven? Lillian discovers, as we all must, the pitfalls of glorifying the glory days, the mortification of failing as a thirtysomething adult, and the impossibility of fully recapturing the past. Don’t You Forget About Me is for anyone who looks back and wonders: What if? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Girls Like Us: Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni M...
Women we love, the songs they wrote and the men they slept with. On this episode of Satellite Sisters podcast from July 2, 2008, Liz, Sheila and Monica interview Sheila Weller about her New York Times Times Bestseller "Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and the Journey of a Generation." On April 6, 1971, Carly Simon was about to take the stage at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. In the audience, James Taylor with his girlfriend Joni Mitchell. And back in NYC in the famed Brill Building, Carole King was already so famous as a songwriter that she was the person the Beatles asked to meet on their first trip to America. Meanwhile, in Fairfield CT, Monica, Sheila and Liz were in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades learning to love these voices of a generation. And love the men they loved. We are talking to you, James Taylor.  Please fill out our 2017 Listener Survey: https://survey.libsyn.com/satellitesisters Here's  from amazon about Girls Like Us:  "A groundbreaking and irresistible biography of three of America’s most important musical artists—Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon—charts their lives as women at a magical moment in time. Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon remain among the most enduring and important women in popular music. Each woman is distinct. Carole King is the product of outer-borough, middle-class New York City; Joni Mitchell is a granddaughter of Canadian farmers; and Carly Simon is a child of the Manhattan intellectual upper crust. They collectively represent, in their lives and their songs, a great swath of American girls who came of age in the late 1960s. Their stories trace the arc of the now mythic sixties generation—female version—but in a bracingly specific and deeply recalled way, far from cliché. The history of the women of that generation has never been written—until now, through their resonant lives and emblematic songs. Girls Like Us is an epic treatment of midcentury women who dared to break tradition and become what none had been before them—confessors in song, rock superstars, and adventurers of heart and soul." College Reunions, 13 Reasons Why, Princess Char...
Liz Dolan, Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan on this week's Satellite Sisters podcast. This week on the show, we discuss college reunions pros and cons. Can you really go back again? And if you go back again, should you join a flash mob with Janet Yellen? Or attempt a radio show? Maybe not, people.  Julie is following the latest on President Trump's openness to meet with "smart cookie" Kim Jong Un. She speculates on the perfect place for such a meeting. Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte has turned two and we love her mom's photo of her. She may be fourth in line to the throne but that's the world's cutest sweater. And did you hear the details of how Brigitte Trogneux met her husband Emmanuel Macron? Unusual. Lian shares some information about Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and some advice on talk to your teens and preteens about suicide and this show. Julie recommends the movie Their Finest as smart, funny, sad and sentimental. Watch for it locally. And Lian will be moderating a great Pasadena Magazine Women in Business panel with some very accomplished women in media. Hear all about it on the podcast and buy tickets here On Operation Sea Turtle, Liz's heath and fitness plan, she provides the Moment of Truth episode. Two moments: 1) her annual physical and weigh-in and 2) an observed moment of sisterhood in her water aerobics class. Mega Millions, Supreme Court News, Happenings i...
The is a New To You show from April 1 2012. On today's show, Lian, Sheila, Liz and Julie dream of Mega Millions, discuss Supreme Court news and Liz gets caught in some light rioting in Barcelona. Plus a Listener Mailbag with questions and observations pulled from our Satellite Sisters Facebook Group. In the news, Lian loves a lottery! So much bonding over the Mega Millions. Julie finds the Supreme Court arguments about the health care law surprisingly lowbrow. Broccoli? Cell Phones? We thought this was about the law! Plus she has a theory about how the decision will come out. Sheila tells us a little more about her daily patterns around Pasadena. There's a new stop in addition to her usual Vons, BofA and Zushi Sushi. And Liz missed all the lottery and Supreme Court excitement this week, but did experience to total happening in Barcelona. She's not one to let a little light rioting spoil a good time. On today's Satellite Sisters: Julie calls for the end of Easter egg hunts. Is the word "bloodbath" too strong?? She has witnessed her grandchildren getting crushed. Liz and Julie recall some of their own bruising Easter egg battles with their brothers and cousins as kids.  Julie also talks about her relationship with her mother-in-law, who passed away this weekend. It was complicated. Her mother-in-law never liked her. Now in death, there is grief, sadness and ambivalence.  Liz sees some dangerous trends developing in her neighborhood. It's gone beyond blow-dry bars and nail salons. The latest scourge is the new lash lounge. Madam Secretary Recap: Convergence Season 3, Ep...
Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the most recent episode of the CBS drama Madam Secretary.  This episode was called convergence and yes, we had the doomsday storyline and the CIA mole storlyline coming togthere. But really, I think for most of us, it was the convergence of Cupcake Wars and Tim Daly’s broken legs.  Storylines: The search for the CIA mole and the missing stinger missiles and a guy that was clearly inspired by Ken Bone.  In the middle of this storyline, we get a mob lawyer who barges into Bess’s house somehow and she watches a lot of Cupcake Wars.  Duck Dynasty Doomsday—Ian the agent we don’t really care about is being drugged. But WhatEvs. Then Henry gets shot at and we finally get the answer to how with the writers include Tim Daly's actual broken legs into the show.  The extinction of the Black Rhino in Nambia—Bess puts out a challenge for all DOS empolyess: come out with an out of the box  solution. An analyst on the global health desk rises to the challenges and it involves Viagra. Erection jokes follow.  Father- son storyline about building henry’s childhood toy and Jason joining in, but only as he wants. By watching YouTibe videos and reporting back.  A few observations:  I don’t trust Captain Baker. Something about her. Loved the scene where Bess promoted the young woman who came up with the Viagra solution.  Nadine and Mike B—let’s see more of that. Binders full of blouses: We had a lot of repeats this week which is how real women dress, so that’s cool.  Julie loved the fresh eyewear.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Top 50 Men List, Monica's Believe It Or Not, Tr...
On this New To You show from February 15, 2007, Lian, Julie and Monica are together. Lian mentions that our show is now available as a “podcast” for the very first time on the air. Don’t forget. The Satellite Sisters are podcast pioneers! Julie has an article from The Guardian in the UK about men who understand women. The Top 50 men include Manolo Blanik and George Clooney. It's the new Sports Illustrate Swimsuit issue. We complain about this every year, so here you go. though we do love seeing Beyonce on the cover.  Julie’s in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Her phones are out as well her her high-speed ISDN line. That makes it pretty hard to do a live radio show but her phone company Quest just does not care.  Because it's February, we discuss heart disease with a doctor who runs an organization to educate women about their cardiac risks. Monica, a longtime cardiac care nurse, reminds us that eighty percent of heart disease in America is caused by lifestyle factors you can change: high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease. She also reviews a PBS special on the heart disease that was hosted by Larry King. As a cardiac care nurse, she once cared for Larry! Small world.  In other news: Liz and Sheila are both out this week and having travel troubles getting to New York City.  Lian brings us information about new Anne Frank documents have surfaced. Monica has just discovered tripadvisor.com for the first time and we provide some travel advice to callers to the show looking for good sisters getaways.  Plus, Monica has her weekly news quiz: The Believe It Or Not Game.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Madam Secretary Recap: Break in Diplomacy
Break in Diplomacy  Let’s play, Who’s the inspiration? Hmm, let see, who were the writers at Madam Secretary thinging about when they wrote this episode?  Thais was a serious episode featuring serious themes and a world leader known for being a rough around the edges narcissitic businessman who ran an usual campaign and has a history of lewd behavior and corrupt business dealings with an unusually close ties to a country that was a former foe.  If you guessed the Phillipines, you guessed right! Actually, that is the reputation of the ACTUAL president of the philipines Storylines: Sock it to me, Bess or Let Them Eat Drones The Singapore Exchange – a meaningful territorial accord with Asia Pacific. She ends up getting in a fist fight with a a dirty and dirty Philipine leader, forcing her to decide – like evry woman ever—should she say something? But she can only make this decision after digging into what appears to be the biggest bowl of cereal ever poured.  Usually Julie is here to explain the political gamesmanship of the South China Sea. What you got Liz? Jay Undercover Bess gets her CIA on and enlists Sadsack Jay to investigate the suspicious death of Kevin from Accountant, a deep cover CIA agent. Turns out Jay is pretty goos at spycraft and undercovers Kevins real mission Duck Dynastys Goes to the Devil We are rejecting this storyline on the grounds that henry seems way in over hi head. But I don’t trust Ian and his neck tattoos. Not one bit.  Binders Full of Blouses The star of the show—the Carolina Herrera dress Bess wore for seemingly 36 hours without a wrinkle. Men in the Doghouse, Entertaining Sheila
On this New to You show from March 14, 2008, we tackle the gubernatorial sex scandal in NY: Eliot Spitzer, former crusading prosecutor and Governor of NY, is client #9 in a prostitution ring. Dr. Sheila weighs in on his psychological state: "pathological narcissism". Her diagnosis of this out-of-control politician is sounding so familiar now! Julie puts a number of men "in the doghouse” for insisting that prostitution is a victimless crime including Alan Dershowitz, James Carville, Bill Maher.  The First Ladies Desk has a lot to say about Mrs. Spitzer. That poor woman stood by her man at his press conference and then Dr. Laura Schlessinger of radio fame was all over TV blaming her for not "doing enough to keep her man at home." Shut it, sister. MSEC314: Madam Secretary Recap Labor of Love
Satellite Sisters Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan discuss the latest episode of Madam Secretary: Love, heartbreak, Peace & Poison! What an episode! It's called Labor of Love and it had it all. This show looked like it was going to be a schmoopy episode about young love, new love and love lost—until EVERYONE DIED!!!!  Storylines:  Love is in the Air—until it’s totally not! The Romeo and Juliet of Colombia show up in America to sign a peace treaty and a trade deal. Unforatunetly, they don’t really love each other. Soledad—the first person to actually be inspired by one of President Dalton’s speech, goes runaway bride and hides out at STEVIE’s apartment. Meanwhile, the future of Acai and Quinoa are in the balance? First—no kissing in the office  in the meantime:  Duck Dynasty goes to the Devil—ugh. I had sort of forgotten about Henrys latest undercover mission—infiltrating an extreme Christian group with a former military guy. Valentine's Day, Grammys, Health + Fitness
New To You! Today's show with Lian, Monica and Liz was originally broadcast on February 12, 2007. Ten years ago this week, we were discussing Valentine's Day, the Grammys and Health + Fitness. Just what we are still talking about in 2017! The sisters have a review of the Grammy show the night before including agreements on Carrie Underwood, The Dixie Chicks and Prince plus some disappointments with The Police.  Lian's son Colin is excited about his new book about groundhogs (his birthday is Groundhog Day) but feels compelled to share his excitement with her at 6 am on Sunday. Monica is just back to Portland Oregon from a vacation to Walt Disney World and to Los Angeles. She knew the party was over when she opened her American Express bill. Liz has the story of a theatre in Florida that decided they could make up a new title for their current play The Vagina Monologues. On the marquis they went with The Hoo-Ha Monologues. Luckily for author Eve Ensler, that's not really allowed. Happy V-Day. Lian recruits a listener to join her watchdog group monitor outlandish wedding announcements in the New York Times. She find's this week's particularly off-putting.  We walk on Billionaires Beach in Malibu. We talk to our fitness expert Liz Neoporent, and to our nutrition expert Sally Squires of the Washington Post syndicated column Lean Plate Club. Sally answers the question we all have: Is there really any such thing as an aphrodisiac?  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Madam Secretary Recap: The Beautiful game
Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the CBS drama, Madam Secretary called The Beautiful Game Three storylines Iran/Isreal Peace Deal Nobel Nomination vs. Madam Sexy-tary Personal Toll of grueling diplomacy work First—a shout out to Tim Daly who was in a serious skiing accident at Park City—Julie notes homage to Tim's legs First storyline: Iran/Isreal Well guess what? A complicated middle east peace plan falls apart over major negotiating points like recognizing Isreal’s right to exist and the acknowledgement of Isreal’s nuclear program. But I think we really have to note that bess tries HYGGE to seal the peace deal—the Cozy Lifestyle at Camp David! It fails but didn’t you want to cozy up before the fire in your woolen sock, drink glog and forge peace in the Middle East. That doesn’t work, but soccer does! Second Storyline: Sexy Magazine photo spread undermines Secretary’s professionalism. And it REALLY BUGS Bess.  Well, maybe if she stopped wearing black lingerie under white blouses! Good and timely storyline… Finally, POOR JAY Touches on the personal lives of the staffers occasionally and I like those storylines. Burn-out is real in DC and it must take a very difficult toll on couples, new parents. Jay’s wife has had it… Henry’s weird storyline—all I have to say is that Henry gets into a lot of life threateneing situtaions for a theologian.  Binders full of blouses Red Puffer Coat The camel coat Daisy’s dress and THE CAPE!! But mainly, the marching. Listen to the newest podcast here. Plus: Julie's offers her first First Ladies Desk Report of the new administration. She would like to remind us of the rules of civility that extend not only to the First Lady but to the entire First Family. We can do this, people. Liz tells us about her visit last week San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. It's a gorgeous historic city in the mountains and a great example of the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site. She read, she walked and she even took a cooking class at a local school La Cocina. What is this world coming to?? Julie has Tuesday Trends. The first is about Rustic Cuffs. The second is Daybreaker.  She suggests the latter for Liz and Lian in Los Angeles as part of their new morning routines. Liz reaches a laziness low-point. Blame it on the FitBit. Hear all about it, plus the launch of her Operation Sea Turtle with a Twist. We have a few gut reactions to the Oscar nominations. Lots of good movies we can get behind this year but there may be a showdown in Best Song. Julie wants Justin Timberlake, of course. Liz wants Lin-Manuel Miranda, of course. And Lian is solidly behind LaLaLand. We close with a thank you from Liz who is very grateful for all your kind thoughts and messages about the loss of her beloved dog Ferris. Special shout-out to Kathleen from Mountain View CA for a lovely note and to Samantha for posting her fun game on the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group. The Satellite Sisters Talk TV with their weekly recap of Madam Secretary. This week, Season 3 Episode 12 called The Detour. With the US doing it to promote sustainability and education and China in the race to exploit oil leases.  MSEC, Blake, Daisy and Undersecretary take off in old with a doubting press corp.  Nice moment at Girls STEM camp. You're the Best, Nora Ephron, Solid Gold Satell...
We can't think of a better way to start the new year than with our Solid Gold Satellite Sister Nora Ephron.  We spoke to Nora Ephron upon publication of her book, "I feel Bad About My Neck".  Journalist and master communicator Tina Brown talks to the Satellite Sisters about her biography of Princess Diana called The Diana Chronicles.  Ten years after her death, Princess Diana remains a mystery. Was she “the people’s princess,” who electrified the world with her beauty and humanitarian missions? Or was she a manipulative, media-savvy neurotic who nearly brought down the monarchy? Only Tina Brown, former editor-in-chief of Tatler, England’s glossiest gossip magazine; Vanity Fair; and The New Yorker could possibly give us the truth. A fascinating interview because Ms. Brown is an amazing storyteller and communicator.
