YTB Encore Interview: Elizabeth Edwards
The next interview in our continuing podcast series, You're the Best Encore Interviews. This week, our conversation with the late Elizabeth Edwards recorded in 2006 upon publication of her book, Saving Graces.  Elizabeth Edwards came into the public eye as the wife of Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards. Elizabeth, a smart, down-to-earth lawyer, mother and friend was a favorite of many women in the US for her warmth and compassion. Her book Saving Graces explores the time period after the death of her 16 year old son and the unending grief after his car accident. It's personal, emotional and revelatory. Our conversation with Elizabeth Edwards is the same. After this conversation took place, her cancer returned, her marriage fell apart in a public  spectacle and she succumbed to her disease.   We were fans and she seemed like a true Satellite Sister.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. On today's Satellite Sisters podcast, we cover the world from the Benghazi hearings and Brain Surgery Live to Lian's last minute scramble to get ready for some book events.  Don't forget that this Tuesday October 27 is the official publication date of "You're The Best: A Celebration of Friendship" and this Friday October 30 is the first big NYC book launch bash at Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn at 7 pm.  More details on our Events page. In the news, Liz share's what it's like to wake up in a time zone far, far away and have the Benghazi hearings going on and on and on.  It drove her to her minibar. For the chocolate bar.  Lian and Monica are both curious about the National Geographic Channel show airing tonight: Brain Surgery Live.  Monica is definitely in.  Lian?  Not so much.  Liz also gives us a heads up on a new show about scientific advances called Breakthrough that will debut next month on the channel.  One of Monica's favorite blogs is Apartment Therapy. They posted this week about what you learn about yourself when you live alone.  Monica also shares some parenting duties  she has taken on this weekend with our niece Fiona Dolan.  Lian and Sheila are skeptical. Meanwhile, Sheila tests out Bank of America's new Teller Assist service.  The sisters don't understand what actual "assist" someone needs at an ATM but Sheila found it soothing.   Lian has some thoughts on this stupid job title story from the New York Times and some fears about a big book event she is attending tonight.  Apparently, she should have look ed at the invitation sooner. Finally a Facebook round-up that includes an Oryx on the loose and some awesome Satellite Sisters of the Week contributing to free dental work to the community in Seattle.   Coming up this week on our 'You're The Best" Encore Interviews are two of our all-time favorites: a very poignant discussion with Elizabeth Edwards and a blockbuster with @bad_robot  JJ Abrams, pre Star Wars but post Felicity.  Please listen and share.   We hope we will see you this Friday at Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn. On today's Satellite Sisters, Julie, Liz, Sheila and Monica start with announcements of this week's #satsistersYTB contest winners and the highlights of the 'You're The Best" kick-off speech in Pasadena this week for Pasadena Magazine.  It was a fun shakedown cruise for the book toyr that launches next Friday night October 30 at Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn, New York.  For the complete calendar of "You're The Best", go to the Events page at www.satellitesisters.com. In the news, SNL did a great send-up of the Democratic Debate last night with the role of Bernie Sanders played by Larry David.  Perfect comedy casting! We'll never "Feel the Bern" the same way again.  Monica spent last weekend at the Bend Film Festival.  She has recommendation for some films you are going to want to watch out for including a documentary called Breaking A Monster, about a kids heavy metal band from Brooklyn.  It all happens in Brooklyn, doesn't it? Liz also needs some film recommendations and has the sisters vote on The Martian vs. Steve Jobs. Julie brings us a fascinating story about the Zappos management philosophy and their self-management approach.  Some sisters are all for it.  Some are skeptical.  What do you think? Meanwhile, she has launched a new tutoring business so she can engage in a little more of her own self-management.  For more information about her new business, you can check here.  She's also got a semi-successful flu shot situation to share. Need a little sensory deprivation?  Julie has a recommendation about some new float spas in Texas.  We urge her to test itself out this week and report back on her findings.  We close with Liz's favorite headline of the week.
