Madam Secretary Recap: Convergence Season 3, Ep...
Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the most recent episode of the CBS drama Madam Secretary.  This episode was called convergence and yes, we had the doomsday storyline and the CIA mole storlyline coming togthere. But really, I think for most of us, it was the convergence of Cupcake Wars and Tim Daly’s broken legs.  Storylines: The search for the CIA mole and the missing stinger missiles and a guy that was clearly inspired by Ken Bone.  In the middle of this storyline, we get a mob lawyer who barges into Bess’s house somehow and she watches a lot of Cupcake Wars.  Duck Dynasty Doomsday—Ian the agent we don’t really care about is being drugged. But WhatEvs. Then Henry gets shot at and we finally get the answer to how with the writers include Tim Daly's actual broken legs into the show.  The extinction of the Black Rhino in Nambia—Bess puts out a challenge for all DOS empolyess: come out with an out of the box  solution. An analyst on the global health desk rises to the challenges and it involves Viagra. Erection jokes follow.  Father- son storyline about building henry’s childhood toy and Jason joining in, but only as he wants. By watching YouTibe videos and reporting back.  A few observations:  I don’t trust Captain Baker. Something about her. Loved the scene where Bess promoted the young woman who came up with the Viagra solution.  Nadine and Mike B—let’s see more of that. Binders full of blouses: We had a lot of repeats this week which is how real women dress, so that’s cool.  Julie loved the fresh eyewear.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Top 50 Men List, Monica's Believe It Or Not, Tr...
On this New To You show from February 15, 2007, Lian, Julie and Monica are together. Lian mentions that our show is now available as a “podcast” for the very first time on the air. Don’t forget. The Satellite Sisters are podcast pioneers! Julie has an article from The Guardian in the UK about men who understand women. The Top 50 men include Manolo Blanik and George Clooney. It's the new Sports Illustrate Swimsuit issue. We complain about this every year, so here you go. though we do love seeing Beyonce on the cover.  Julie’s in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Her phones are out as well her her high-speed ISDN line. That makes it pretty hard to do a live radio show but her phone company Quest just does not care.  Because it's February, we discuss heart disease with a doctor who runs an organization to educate women about their cardiac risks. Monica, a longtime cardiac care nurse, reminds us that eighty percent of heart disease in America is caused by lifestyle factors you can change: high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease. She also reviews a PBS special on the heart disease that was hosted by Larry King. As a cardiac care nurse, she once cared for Larry! Small world.  In other news: Liz and Sheila are both out this week and having travel troubles getting to New York City.  Lian brings us information about new Anne Frank documents have surfaced. Monica has just discovered tripadvisor.com for the first time and we provide some travel advice to callers to the show looking for good sisters getaways.  Plus, Monica has her weekly news quiz: The Believe It Or Not Game.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of Satellite Sisters recap the CBS drama Madam Secretary episode Swept Away. Madam Secretary Recap: Break in Diplomacy
Break in Diplomacy  Let’s play, Who’s the inspiration? Hmm, let see, who were the writers at Madam Secretary thinging about when they wrote this episode?  Thais was a serious episode featuring serious themes and a world leader known for being a rough around the edges narcissitic businessman who ran an usual campaign and has a history of lewd behavior and corrupt business dealings with an unusually close ties to a country that was a former foe.  If you guessed the Phillipines, you guessed right! Actually, that is the reputation of the ACTUAL president of the philipines Storylines: Sock it to me, Bess or Let Them Eat Drones The Singapore Exchange – a meaningful territorial accord with Asia Pacific. She ends up getting in a fist fight with a a dirty and dirty Philipine leader, forcing her to decide – like evry woman ever—should she say something? But she can only make this decision after digging into what appears to be the biggest bowl of cereal ever poured.  Usually Julie is here to explain the political gamesmanship of the South China Sea. What you got Liz? Jay Undercover Bess gets her CIA on and enlists Sadsack Jay to investigate the suspicious death of Kevin from Accountant, a deep cover CIA agent. Turns out Jay is pretty goos at spycraft and undercovers Kevins real mission Duck Dynastys Goes to the Devil We are rejecting this storyline on the grounds that henry seems way in over hi head. But I don’t trust Ian and his neck tattoos. Not one bit.  Binders Full of Blouses The star of the show—the Carolina Herrera dress Bess wore for seemingly 36 hours without a wrinkle. Theory White Trench The Orange Pussy Blouse—again, a political statement???? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. That poor woman stood by her man at his press conference and then Dr. Laura Schlessinger of radio fame was all over TV blaming her for not "doing enough to keep her man at home." Shut it, sister. MSEC314: Madam Secretary Recap Labor of Love
Satellite Sisters Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan discuss the latest episode of Madam Secretary: Love, heartbreak, Peace & Poison! What an episode! It's called Labor of Love and it had it all. This show looked like it was going to be a schmoopy episode about young love, new love and love lost—until EVERYONE DIED!!!!  Storylines:  Love is in the Air—until it’s totally not! The Romeo and Juliet of Colombia show up in America to sign a peace treaty and a trade deal. Unforatunetly, they don’t really love each other. Soledad—the first person to actually be inspired by one of President Dalton’s speech, goes runaway bride and hides out at STEVIE’s apartment. Meanwhile, the future of Acai and Quinoa are in the balance? What are we going to eat in California if this deal doesn’t go through…  Jay’s storyline. Have you heard the one about the three wonks that goes running in puffer jackets? Finds out his wife is actually having an emotional affair with his best friend—thanks to Blake’s Dateline techniques Daisy’s Storyline: I think we can all agree that Daisy should stop dating guys from work. First—no kissing in the office  in the meantime:  Duck Dynasty goes to the Devil—ugh. I had sort of forgotten about Henrys latest undercover mission—infiltrating an extreme Christian group with a former military guy. I will never look at neck tattoos the same I think Henry should never do this job again. I gotta say, he’s not very good at it!  And then at the end—everything GOES NUTS!!!! Drowning!  Poison! CIA? Madam Secretary Recap: The Beautiful game
Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters recap the CBS drama, Madam Secretary called The Beautiful Game Three storylines Iran/Isreal Peace Deal Nobel Nomination vs. Madam Sexy-tary Personal Toll of grueling diplomacy work First—a shout out to Tim Daly who was in a serious skiing accident at Park City—Julie notes homage to Tim's legs First storyline: Iran/Isreal Well guess what? A complicated middle east peace plan falls apart over major negotiating points like recognizing Isreal’s right to exist and the acknowledgement of Isreal’s nuclear program. But I think we really have to note that bess tries HYGGE to seal the peace deal—the Cozy Lifestyle at Camp David! It fails but didn’t you want to cozy up before the fire in your woolen sock, drink glog and forge peace in the Middle East. That doesn’t work, but soccer does! Second Storyline: Sexy Magazine photo spread undermines Secretary’s professionalism. And it REALLY BUGS Bess.  Well, maybe if she stopped wearing black lingerie under white blouses! Good and timely storyline… Finally, POOR JAY Touches on the personal lives of the staffers occasionally and I like those storylines. Burn-out is real in DC and it must take a very difficult toll on couples, new parents. Jay’s wife has had it… Henry’s weird storyline—all I have to say is that Henry gets into a lot of life threateneing situtaions for a theologian.  Binders full of blouses Red Puffer Coat The camel coat Daisy’s dress and THE CAPE!! Women's March in DC, First Ladies Desk, Tuesday...
Lian Dolan, Liz Dolan and Julie Dolan of the Satellite Sisters cover the Women's March in Washington DC. Lian attended the historic march in the nation's capital and she has a full report about the spirit of the march, the power of Washington symbols, the success of the Pussy hats and, of course, Madonna. But mainly, the marching. Listen to the newest podcast here. Plus: Julie's offers her first First Ladies Desk Report of the new administration. She would like to remind us of the rules of civility that extend not only to the First Lady but to the entire First Family. We can do this, people. Liz tells us about her visit last week San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. It's a gorgeous historic city in the mountains and a great example of the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site. She read, she walked and she even took a cooking class at a local school La Cocina. What is this world coming to?? Julie has Tuesday Trends. The first is about Rustic Cuffs. The second is Daybreaker.  She suggests the latter for Liz and Lian in Los Angeles as part of their new morning routines. Liz reaches a laziness low-point. Blame it on the FitBit. Hear all about it, plus the launch of her Operation Sea Turtle with a Twist. We have a few gut reactions to the Oscar nominations. Lots of good movies we can get behind this year but there may be a showdown in Best Song. Julie wants Justin Timberlake, of course. Liz wants Lin-Manuel Miranda, of course. And Lian is solidly behind LaLaLand. We close with a thank you from Liz who is very grateful for all your kind thoughts and messages about the loss of her beloved dog Ferris. Special shout-out to Kathleen from Mountain View CA for a lovely note and to Samantha for posting her fun game on the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group. We love it with a chainsaw. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Madam Secretary Recap: The Detour
The Satellite Sisters Talk TV with their weekly recap of Madam Secretary. This week, Season 3 Episode 12 called The Detour. But it could have have been called The Amazing Race.  3 teams!  One Team goes to Africa on a dilapidated plane with one engine and the Chinese in pursuit One Team goes to the Department of Defense and tries to pull rank One Team goes to Crazytown with a Doomsday Cult Race between The US and China to partner with various Africa nations on windfarms. With the US doing it to promote sustainability and education and China in the race to exploit oil leases.  MSEC, Blake, Daisy and Undersecretary take off in old with a doubting press corp.  Nice moment at Girls STEM camp. MSEC waxes rhapsodic about Math. But China on their heels. Bess wins the gamesmanship but loses the PR Battle. Special shout-out to the moving scene at the slave fort between Daisy and the undersecretary—a history lesson and more on MK weekend. Very nice moment Race to the DOD for parts I mentioned this because we get a chance to Nadine and Matt try to convince a pentagon colonel that somehow the speechwriter outranks the military man. But Nadine gets her parts.  Race to Crazytown When the FBI says, I’ll be there in 5 minutes, do you have to let them in? Henry is back on the trail of a doomsday cult he once hunted down. One of the cult members  is selling bombs to isis. Pretend to be a radicalized Islamic terrorist—but Henry gives him the “are you islamic test” and he fails miserable. Theory—cult guy setting up end of the world standoff between the west and isis. Everybody in the truck!! Binders full of blouses: Nadines plum colored masterpiece Madam Secretarys black suit and floral blouse—clean and fresh Daisy’s endless supply of pretty dresses  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
