Luke Black & Drury Anderson of The Mountain Gra...

We're stoked this week to have Luke Black and Drury Anderson of The Mountain Grass Unit as our guests on No Simple Road! The Mountain Grass Unit consists of three Birmingham pickers, Drury Anderson (mandolin and vocals), Luke Black (acoustic guitar and banjo), and Sam Wilson (upright bass). With the addition of Luke Black and Sam Wilson on harmonies, The Mountain Grass Unit has established the firm foundation to take on not only the vocal harmonies of traditional bluegrass tunes, but also the freedom to adapt songs from various genres to an all-acoustic format. Aside from their original songs, all three are equally comfortable restyling a Tony Rice number, a classic Grateful Dead tune, or covering contemporary acoustic masters like Billy Strings. The youthful exuberance and energy they bring to the stage is always remarkable.

We talk with the guys about:

Their experience attending Berklee College Of Music.

How they have explored and developed their vocal chops.

The was they got Sam to join the band and play the upright bass.

How rap rhythms influence their sound.

If they are feeling the wave of momentum behind them and how it is affecting their world.

How they came to learn about Jamgrass and the way the community has taken them in.

Where they see themselves fitting into the wider tapestry of the musical community,

How they deal with playing for rowdy crowds.

Some of the kindness and love they've found on the road.

... and much, much more!

Head over to www.mountaingrassunit.wordpress.com to learn more!

INTRO MUSIC PROVIDED BY - WILL HANZA OF ESCAPER

-Grab your tickets now for Skull & Roses Festival April 19th - 23rd at the hallowed grounds of the Ventura County Raceway!

www.skullandroses.com

-FREE SHIPPING from Shop Tour Bus Use The PROMO CODE: nosimpleroad

-Make Sure to visit our friends at Fire On The Mountain for some amazing food at one of the 3 location in the Portland area or one of the 2 location in the Denver area!

-CHECK OUT THE NSR EXCLUSIVE BETA PREVIEW OF www.venuellama.com

MUSIC IN THE COMMERCIALS BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:

ANDREW HENDRYX

OUTRO MUSIC BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:

CHILLDREN OF INDIGO

No Simple Road is part of OSIRIS MEDIA.
This week on No Simple Road we are super stoked to have Leslie and Chelsea from The Goose Chicks Podcast as our guests. Leslie Mack is a long-time podcaster and jam-band aficionado. She previously produced & co-hosted Blackberry Jams presented by Ben & Jerry’s, an exploration of the intersections between the band Phish and Black Liberation. She brings a healthy obsession with Goose to the show as well as a genuine love for all the Goose Chicks out there. In her non-Goose obsessed life she is a Digital Strategist and Communications Director for The Frontline. Leslie hails from Flatbush Brooklyn and lives in Charlotte, NC.

Chelsea Long is a lover of live music and, with the discovery of Goose, new to the jam scene. She found Goose at the start of her spiritual awakening and has a deep spiritual connection to their lyrics and meditative jams.

Inspired by the Hungersite video series, Chelsea recently left her corporate job in nonprofit administration to start a creative art business making tie-dye clothing and accessories. She hopes to speak on the spiritual and creative connections between Goose’s music and fans.

We talk with the ladies about:

the unique time and place we are in right now as a musical community.

removing 'Gatekeeping' and the barrier to entry from the Jam Band scene.

Chelsea's experience coming into the scene during lockdown.

the concept behind The Goose Chicks Podcast.

creating safe spaces inside the shows and being free enough to have your own personal experience.

the deliberate progression of 'Torch Passing'

why Leslie loves to bring people to their first Goose show

... and so much more! Bob Bralove & Tom Constanten of Dose Hermanos: ...

This week on No Simple Road we are extremely honored to have Bob Bralove and Tom Constanten of Dose Hermanos as our guests! Though both came to prominence associated with the Grateful Dead, Tom as keyboard player from 1968 to 1970, and Bob as an engineer, programmer, and occasional performer from 1987 to 1995, this music is Dead-like only in its wide-open, wholly improvisational exploration of a vast musical universe with only one rule: does the result, said Bralove, “feel like Dose?”

This talk takes us all over the map of the 100 Acre Wood! We talk about:

-Creating music that is completely free of structure with only the idea of an image or picture in mind.

-Why music is different for the perpetrator and the appreciator.

-How the two of them have developed as artists over the years.

-The way Bob received a 'transmission' from The Gyoto Monks.

-Each of their takes on why some folks find spirituality through music.

-Creating the new album 'Persistence Of Memory'.

-How it feels to still be working together all these year later...

..and so much more!

No Simple Road Intro Music Created By ESCAPER

-FREE SHIPPING from Shop Tour Bus Use The PROMO CODE: nosimpleroad

-For 20% off Sunset Lake CBD PROMO CODE: NSR20

-Make Sure to visit our friends at Fire On The Mountain for some amazing food at one of the 3 location in the Portland area or one of the 2 location in the Denver area!

MUSIC IN THE COMMERCIALS BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:

CIRCLES AROUND THE SUN

OUTRO MUSIC BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:

CHILLDREN OF INDIGO

No Simple Road is part of OSIRIS MEDIA.
