<p>We are so excited this week to have Parrish Gabriel and Matthew Rennick of Sicard Hollow joining us on No SImple Road!</p><br><p>Nashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers, Sicard Hollow, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now, as they navigate adulthood, they’re equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like—so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age.</p><br><p>Before the band met in 2018, none of the members ever considered playing bluegrass. Matt Rennick (violin) was working on electronic music, Will Herrin (mandolin/vocals) was playing guitar in rock bands, and Alex King (guitar/vocals) was barely playing music at all. After a few jam sessions, the bluegrass just kind of happened. Jay Blakesberg is a San Francisco-based photographer, filmmaker and public speaker whose work has appeared in numerous worldwide magazines including&nbsp;Rolling Stone,&nbsp;Guitar Player,&nbsp;Relix, Time, Vanity Fair, and countless others. He has photographed many musical artists, including the Grateful Dead, B.B. King, Phish, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Tom Waits,&nbsp;Neil Young and Carlos Santana&nbsp;to name just a few. His photography has been included in over 250 CD packages, been published thousands of times in books and magazines worldwide, and he has published Sixteen coffee table books of his music photography.&nbsp;Over the last 8 years, Jay has presented his storytelling/slideshow presentation to thousands of people around the United States.</p><br><p>We sit down with Jay and Ricki here in the studio and have a discussion regarding the new book <a href="https://www.blakesberg.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">'RetroBlakesberg Vol. 1: The Film Archives</a>' and how Ricki came up with the idea and pitched it to her Dad. <p>We are super excited this week to. have Erik Yates of Hot Buttered Rum as our guest on No Simple Road. Erik spent his Bay Area youth trying nearly every instrument and style he came across. Piano lessons, saxophone quartets, garage bands and folk songs had all weaseled their way into his life by the time he hit high school.
