Satellite Sisters March 3, 2013: Julie, Liz and...
On today's Satellite Sisters, Liz connects with Julie + Lian from Julie's home in Dallas.  Lian's racking up some Frequent Visitor points at Julie's place and shares some compliments and observations on her high level concierge skills!  Plus: As our North Korean expert, Julie speaks out on Dennis Rodman's visit to North Korea.  His reaction seems to have been wildly different from hers when she was there several years ago. Surprised? Liz thinks Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer's new plan to force everyone to work in the office all day Monday through Friday might not be so bad if they didn't also expect you to answer email and phone calls nights and weekends, while Julie think's it's all just a big stunt to make Yahoo feel cutting edge by going back to the future.  Good luck with that. Lian is envious of her husband's "office of the future" which apparently is more advanced than the old Ikea dining room table that serves as her home office.  Fancy stand-up desks?  Isn't that what kitchen counters are for? Plus quick updates on Sheila (Report Cards + Laryngitis), Monica (Dim Sum) and Ferris (Thriving!). And Lian has tips on how to keep up on all the news on her new novel Elizabeth The First Wife coming out in May.  Join her Lian Dolan Author Page on Facebook for the latest. Satellite Sisters Feb. 25, 2013: Julie, Monica ...
Julie, Monica and Liz gather to discuss: Lessons learned from the recent death of our father.  We are grateful for all the help from hospice organizations and from you. Lian's birthday celebration in Dallas.  Julie did her best to make a day of it.  Can you say SOUFFLES? Yeah! Monica's enchildada jag.  She's been in her test kitchen all week. Liz is losing a lot of stuff lately.  What's up wth that? And we are totally on the bandwagon for  Pope Dolan.  We think that would a totally appropriate salute to our Dad. We know Cardinal Dolan of NY is a longshot but we are launching a campaign anyway.  Get on board, people! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Plus more challenges on managing the space-time continuum while watching Downton Abbey, The Walking Dead and The Grammy's all at once tonight. And from Julie via email, an installment of the Roller Coaster Report: Our father had a rough week, so she's on that but she's also working on boosting her black lab's self-esteem. Satellite Sisters 09/09/12: Liz and Julie Cover...
Liz and Julie have had a busy couple of weeks.  What with political conventions, the U S Open, following Mars Rover Curiousity and catching up with all of Seaosn 1 of Homeland, September really snuck up on us. On today's show, Liz explains every new food or snack she's been preparing for her dog Ferris. He was diagnosed with lymphoma last week and he's just not eating enough.  She calls her new ratings system on his health the "squirrelometer".  Find out how that works and how much time she's spending foraging for bologna. Julie's got a tale of her grandaughter Alice's introduction to youth soccer.  Those 5 year olds can get rough.  Alice's mother, Julie's daughter-in-law,  was born and raised in Kyrgyzstan, so this is all new to her, too.  It's going to be quite a season. And much more.  Don't forget to join the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group and follow us at @SatSisters. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Satellite Sisters August 12, 2012: Monica, Juli...
How did they always open the old Wide World of Sports?  "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat". Yeah, that was us this week.  On the thrill side, the Olympics, the Olympics and, oh yeah, Mars Curiousity.  Monica has a complete rundown of her favorite Olympic moments and people.  We know those sprint relays are always amazing but who knew platform diving could be so emotional?  What are we going to do now that the Games are over?  Julie has a specific strategy to share with is. On the agony side, our father took a real turn for the worse this week.  Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and we are learning the hard way that we can't predict what will happen next. On an upnote, Julie recommends that EVERYONE watch USA Swimming's cover of Call Me Maybe if you are feeling a little post-Olympic letdown and read Lian's Olympic notes on her blog Chaos Chronicles to rbing all the fun back. And Liz exhorts the whole Satellite Sisterhood to take up trampoline.  Let's all make the team for Brazil 2016! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. On today's Satellite Sisters, we cover: Liz's directorial debut! It turns out that telling an Oscar winner what to do was actually the easy part. Lian's Random Thoughts on the first two days of the Olympics. She's not sure she shares Danny Boyle's vision for Opening Ceremony and still wants the answer to one big question:  Where was Adele??? On the sporting front, she's enjoying it all so much, she's not sure if she'll get ANY work done this week. Sheila's worries about John McEnroe after seeing his interview of Ryan Lochte.  She has some advice for his hairdresser.  Plus her own athletic career is threatened by a new injury that requires shopping for some "50 Shades of Grey bondage products", whatever that means. And everyone discusses the story in today's New York Times about whether algebra is really necessary. Our vote?  No. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Sheila and Liz got together today to record a little summer entertainment review. Many movies to discuss including Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, Benh Zeitlin's Beast of the Southern Wild, Lynn Shelton's Your Sister's Sister, Sarah Polley's Take This Waltz and even Woody Allen's To Rome With Love.  Some of these movies they've seen, some they have not seen and several Sheila has no intention of seeing even though Liz recommends them.  Whatever. Sheila's also got some notes for the Real Housewives Of Everywhere on few phrases they should STOP saying.  And both Liz ans Sheila spent some vacation time this week trying a new spa service they may never attempt again.  Mulch bath, anyone? Sheila, Monica, Julie and Liz tackle the world one cup of coffee at a time: Sheila and Liz have a complete report on Bruce Springsteen in Los Angeles.  Sheila went Thursday night.  Liz went Friday night.  It's tempting to just get on that Wrecking Ball tour. Our Satellite Sisters Nike+ Walking and Running Challenge is getting loads of uptake from you.  Thanks, Sisters!  Keep up the good work. Julie has a major Commencement today.  The English language students she's been teaching have their big graduation ceremony. It's a moment to reminisce about Dolan family graduations gone by.  There was a definite protocol that developed over the years. Monica has a medical update from last week. Turns out its true that mustard and picke juice are good for you. Who knew? Sheila reviews Darling Companion.  Doesn't love it.  Could it be that she's not a dog lover? Liz teaches her parents how to get Movies On Demand from their cable box.  She's not hopeful that the lesson stuck. Julie has quick news update on North Korea,  Three words: Don't Be Fooled.
