Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin
On today's show we have a legendary songwriter and musician Jack Tempchin. Jack is best known for penning the songs "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone," recorded by the Eagles, but there's a lot more in his catalog to explore. Most recently he has been performing with the band Mrs. Henry. In this episode, we get to hear about their collaboration "Waiting," a song that sounds and feels like a norm-defying Dylan tune. He also tells about his latest songwriting adventure where he goes to the beach and records songs completely made up on the spot. https://www.jacktempchin.com/ https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

Lester Chambers of The Chambers Brothers, Moona...
Even by the lofty standards of the late '60s, The Chambers Brothers were visionaries, blending rock, gospel and psychedelia into a musical bouillabaisse seasoned with social awareness. Lester is the third of the four Brothers, who were joined by a white drummer named Brian Keenan. The Chambers family is from Mississippi, but they formed their band in Los Angeles after the oldest brother, George, was discharged from the Army and settled there. "He went to California because he no longer wanted his brothers and sisters to grow up in a place like Mississippi," Lester says. "We got in the car one night and drove up. And, after two-and-a-half to three days we wound up in California, but it was a struggle getting out of Mississippi on the road." They started performing in 1961 and added Keenan in 1965, the year they earned great acclaim with a performance at the Newport Folk Festival, where they went electric hours before Bob Dylan. Their first album, The Time Has Come, was released in 1967 and includes their masterpiece "Time Has Come Today," a song that still rings true five decades later. That album also includes "Uptown," a song you can see the band perform in the documentary Summer Of Soul. We touch on all these topics in this conversation with Lester, who also talks about his latest venture, the band Moonalice. https://www.moonalice.com/splash https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

The Mellencamp Episode with Author David Masciotra
In this episode of the Songfacts Podcast, we discuss the music and life of John Mellencamp with David Masciotra, author of Mellencamp: American Troubadour. Mellencamp has a reputation for being a bit... prickly, but David saw a different side of him when he was invited to Mellencamp's Indiana studio to conduct an interview. He's one of the few journalists to get such and invitation. There's a lot to be learned from Mellencamp's music, especially when it comes to navigating modern times and reflecting on what's really important in life. He started out using the name "Johnny Cougar" but gradually freed himself of that shackle by becoming wildly successful, giving him the power to call his own shots. His famous songs like "Jack And Diane" and "Small Town" have remarkable staying power, and we discuss those here. But as Masciotra explains, there are some hidden gems in his vast catalog that are well worth a listen. We also look into a great Mellencamp mystery: In "Cherry Bomb," is he singing "that's when a sport was a sport," or "that's when a smoke was a smoke"? https://davidmasciotra.com/ https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

The Dylan Episode with Author Stephen Arnoff
Finally, the Songfacts Podcast is here to talk about Dylan! There is no better person to guide us through this episode than Dr. Stephen Arnoff, who is the author of the new book, About Man And God And Law, available via E-book now and hard copy on May 3, 2022.  Dr. Arnoff, who also hosts a podcast by the same name, takes a unique look at Dylan and his works. We discuss how one line from "Maggie's Farm" led to so much more, and also get into the deeper meaning of songs like "Blind Willie McTell" and "Like a Rolling Stone." As a longtime Dylan fan I'm very excited to present this conversation. https://www.mangodlaw.com/ https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

Michelle Willis
Michelle Willis... is so startlingly talented. She's probably one of the best singers I've ever heard in my life. ~David Crosby When asked how her 2012 self would react if told she would have David Crosby and Michael McDonald play on one of her albums one day, Michelle Willis would not have been surprised. That's not arrogance, it's self confidence, and Willis oozes with it. She is a performer who knows what she is capable of with her voice, her instrument (keyboard), and her writing. Having spent the last few years with a front-row seat to Crosby's resurgence, playing on two of his most recent albums and touring with his band, we are now treated to Willis' new album Just One Voice out April 8, 2022. On this episode of the Songfacts Podcast, Michelle talks about some of the songs on the new album, plays a bit of her amazing song "Janet," and gives us some insight on all things Crosby. Having had a chance to listen to this album top to bottom, I can tell you that it is a must listen. https://www.michellewillis.ca/ Crosby Intro https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

Bonnaroo Superjam Producer Paul Peck
Today on the show I am speaking with Paul Peck. Paul got his start in the music industry as a student at Tulane University. After an inspiring trip to the New Orleans Jazz Fest, he joined the Superfly team that eventually was involved in organizing the first Bonnaroo festival in 2002. In this episode, we get some behind-the-scenes stories on how that came together, and how he put together "super jams" where artists who ordinarily wouldn't perform together join forces on stage. Paul recently started his own festival, Okeechobee, in Florida and is now serving as the president of the fundraising platform Fandiem. We don't have our normal song samples throughout this episode, but I found Paul's stories of creating and putting on these festivals amazing, and I hope you do as well! The Heavy Hours - Gardens track by track
A few short months ago, The Heavy Hours came on the show and introduced us to their amazing music. In this episode, we have them back to take us track by track through their new album Gardens, comprised of songs they wrote a few years ago. It's set for release on February 18. This is truly "behind the music" - you'll hear the rough audio clips they had recorded on their phones as they constructed the songs, and hear how they evolved. Really cool stuff. Teddy Grossman
Today, we bring you Teddy Grossman, a singer and songwriter whose first full-length studio album, Soon Come, will drop on March 22, 2022.  Grossman left his 9-5 in early 2020, to pursue his passion. He has a voice that simply must be heard - it reminds me of St. Paul and The Broken Bones and Leon Russell. His lyrics are both relatable and personal, and his story, even at its beginnings, is worth hearing. The process of writing a debut album is long and winding, with many ups and downs along the way. We get into a lot of that here and also are treated to a live performance of his song, "What I Owe." Larkin Poe and Nu Deco Ensemble
Hello and happy new year to all of you! Welcome to a new year of Songfacts Podcast, A little over a year ago, I was scrolling Facebook and saw a couple of ladies jamming to Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." Well, it caught my attention (to say the least) and I went into a wormhole of all their amazing videos.  The sisters Megan and Rebecca Lovell make up the core of Larkin Poe. They play bluesy rock and roll with sugar-sweet voices and harmonies. Their covers are amazing, but when you listen further you realize they are tremendous songwriters as well! The full package!  Recently, they paired up with Nu Deco Ensemble, a flexible and innovative hybrid orchestra, to make a unique new album titled Paint The Roses. So please enjoy this conversation with Megan and Rebecca of Larkin Poe along with Jacomo from Nu Deco Ensemble. https://www.larkinpoe.com/ https://nu-deco.org/ https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
