Behind the Scenes of Yes Theory ft Thomas Dajer

This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we’re joined by Yes Theory’s head editor, Thomas Dajer. We talk about the ups and downs of what it’s like to be a full time editor, and TD has been editing full time for 4 years now. In those 4 years, Yes Theory has built an audience of over 4 million subscribers and TD has edited videos that have gotten over 416M views on YouTube Alone, including a number of videos that have over 10M views.

Editing is one of the most important crafts in filmmaking, especially on youtube - it’s where the story comes together, and it’s what separates the good channels from the great ones. Some creators take on the edits themselves and some bring on others to help tell their stories - the bottom line is, without editing, films don’t get made. Editing is also where a lot of creators tend to burn out - long hours, not much sleep, creative roadblocks, software problems, the list goes on. Earlier this year we worked with TD on a documentary for Yes Theory’s channel called “Frozen Alive” and during that time we connected on our love hate relationship with the craft of editing and that’s a big part of what we explore on the show today.

We also cover ton of other topics such as personal fulfillment, time and relationship management as a creator and how it feels to be the guy behind the guys.

F*ck it, Let's just get jobs.

This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast we bring you behind the scenes on a conversation we’ve had for the past 3 years. It’s not easy when you decide you want your own creativity becomes your source of income, and that’s what we explore today on the show.

We'd love to hear from you! Make sure to tweet at us and leave us a voice message on anchor, we'll include it in our next episode.

This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast we talk about how media, and specifically social media, plays into defining the identities we all connect with and aspire to be like. We talk about masculinity - which is an interesting topic, because most of our lives and careers have been connected to sports - and sports play a big role in defining masculinity.

This has to be one of the most interesting conversations that Coin and I have had to date and i’m curious to hear your opinion once you get to the end of the episode. Our podcast is very conversational and we want to include you in the conversation - so drop us a voice message on anchor or a tweet on twitter at any point in this episode if you have an opinion or thought on the topic we are discussing.

We did it, We made a movie.

This week on The Colin and Samir Podcast we talk about realizing our dream of making a movie. We’ve had this dream for a while and we’ve talked about it quite a bit, we’ve always wanted to make a documentary, screen it in front of people and then have millions of people watch it….and all of that happened, within a week.

Here's the link to the film: https://youtu.be/8cvhwquPqJ0

On this episode we talk about how it happened, how we felt during the process and how it feels now to reflect back on realizing a dream of ours. Alright so this episodes opens up in Colins apartment as we reflect on making our first movie.

We're incredibly grateful to the boys from Yes Theory, everyone who came to the premiere and to everyone who has watched the film so far - we are so excited about the response and can’t wait to make our next film.

Some big takeaways from this experience - be present in the moment, a lot of times if you put your mind to It, your dreams will come true - but not exactly how you thought they would, or when you thought they would - they might look completely different from how you imagined them, but it’s important to try and recognize when they actually might be happening.

Make sure to review the pod, like I mentioned, we are now on Anchor which means you can send us a voice message, we’d love to try that feature out and see what kind of voice messages we get from you guys.

We never thought this day would come

This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we talk about a day that we never expected would come. We recorded this episode on Colin’s 30th birthday. Colin and I met when we were 22 and have been working together ever since. Our twenties were filled with experimentation, successes, failures and a lot of adventures along the way. On this episode, we reflect on the past 10 years, the work we’ve done together and the decisions that defined the decade for Colin.

There were a few unexpected moments in the episode - we had a brief weather interruption and a phone call from Colin's mom that we recorded, and decided to include an abridged version towards the end of the episode.

Enjoy our conversation and sign up for our newsletter at Colinandsamir.com

Dealing with Uncertainty and looking back on 2018

On this episode of The Colin and Samir Podcast, we take a look back at the past year of our lives…and this has been a year of a lot of ups and downs. Colin and I both wrote down some amazing moments from the year prior to the podcast and I think we both expected this episode to be filled with a lot of fun stories about those memories, and we absolutely touch of a lot of those, but we also dive into the uncertainty we felt during the year. The conversation takes some twists and turns that we didn’t know it was going to take, but I guess that’s fitting because it is similar to the way our year went...filled with unexpected twists and turns.

So if you’ve been following us all year or if you’re just starting to tune in, I think you’ll really enjoy this reflection into the past year of our lives and our careers.

After the last day of the program, we decided to pick up the mics and recorded our thoughts on the week.

On this episode we take you through our experience at Vertical U, we talk about what we learned from the program and what we learned about ourselves from the experience.
