No. 136 - Bo-lieve!!
Injuries may have decimated Ottawa, and the guys begin by seeing how it may impact the able bodied players who can still take the ice. They also tip their cap to a couple d-men who've swapped an IR spot in Pittsburgh, and consider whether Claude Julien can bring a staggering Habs roster back to life. Then, a hotly anticipated rookie who couldn't impress at this season's outset is back for another kick at the can in Columbus, while teammates around him alternately slump and awaken. Outjuries double as snoozers, as the merits of activating or jettisoning a returning centreman in Dallas and a blueliner in Anaheim are debated, with a healthy but quiet-til-now Panthers defenseman thrown in for good measure. Meanwhile, the debate over whether a certain Ducks forward can maintain a 55+ point pace appears all but settled, and new lines in Anaheim lead to a depth chart search for fantasy value outside of the usual suspects.  In hot streaks, Brian thinks Elan's feeling confident about one Canuck too many. The segment also features a couple Coyotes forwards and defensemen are helpful for as long as they remain in the desert, an entire line reigniting a pretty great even-strength run in Detroit, an assist-happy Blue who Brian prefers as a goal-scorer, a 60+ point scorer starting to maybe look like one again, a doghouse escapee in Boston, Brent freaking Burns, and Elan pining over vintage Zetterberg. Goalies get some time in the spotlight, including thoughts on why the Blues goalies are suddenly keeping the red lamp from being lit, a Philadelphia goalie whose only hot in the category of 'games started', an apparently reliable Western Conference goalie who could be spelling his starter more often, an emerging title change in Florida, and a struggling Isles tender with rough waters ahead. Also, what the heck should you do with a couple struggling Jets as they enter their bye weeks? And which Jet forward should you pick up when they hit the ice again? Players discussed on this episode include Mark Stone, Kris Letang, Bo Horvat, Henrik Zetterberg, Alex Galchenyuk, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jaden Schwartz, Martin Hanzal, Zach Werenski, Michal Neuvirth, Oscar Klefbom, Jordan Eberle, Thomas Greiss, Aaron Dell, Nikolaj Ehlers, Ryan Spooner, Petr Mrazek, Mike Hoffman, Bobby Ryan, Brad Marchand, Max Pacioretty, Ryan Dzingel, Zack Smith, Curtis Lazar, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Justin Schultz, Chris Kunitz, Jake Guentzel, Carl Hagelin, Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Brendan Gallagher, Carey Price, Brandon Saad, Brandon Dubinsky, Jason Spezza, Patrick Sharp, Sami Vatanen, Radek Faksa, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brent Burns, Rikard Rakell, Aaron Ekblad, Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase, Alex Edler, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Troy Stecher, Radim Vrbata, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Tomas Tatar, Anthony Mantha, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Steve Mason, Leon Draisaitl, Andrej Sekera, Mark Letestu, Mark Scheifele, Patrick Laine, Mathieu Perreault and more. * * *   Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes!   If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson.    Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live, face-to-face and interactive Keeping Karlsson recording!   You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). No. 135 - Glory Hayes
Welcome to a special mid-week edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Listen now, or save it for your usual Sunday night or Monday morning listening-- the choice is yours! Several outjuries are eyeing prime playing spots on their rosters, including yet another mid-six Ranger putting up top six numbers, a couple mid-six Jets with potential to step into a top six role, and a hard-luck Habs winger who would be happy to help spark his squad. The guys also chat about Andrei Markov and what his ceiling for the rest of the year could be. Hot streaks carry the rest of the main show, as we circle back to a minor league call-up in St Louis that we zoomed past last week, a trio of Isles who may be feeling some of the weight lifted off of their shoulders since a coaching change, a New Jersey forward who is very quietly on pace to post the best numbers of his career, a Colorado rookie finally hitting the scoresheets, a Sabres forward who's clicking and ticking most of his boxes on a new line, a Panthers defenseman who looks to lead the blueline down the homestretch, and a Columbus centreman taking a run at reclaiming his depth value. Players discussed on this episode include Kevin Hayes, Mika Zibanejad, Connor Hellebuyck, Drew Stafford, Mathieu Perreault, Ondrej Pavelec, Brendan Gallagher, Andrei Markov, Shea Weber, Kris Russell, Travis Konecny, Shane Gostisbehere, Kenny Agostino, Alex Steen, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Andrew Ladd, Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome, Adam Henrique, Mikko Rantanen, Calvin Pickard, Nicklas Backstrom, Philipp Grubauer, Evander Kane, Keith Yandle, Brandon Dubinsky, Cam Atkinson, Charlie Coyle, James Neal, Viktor Arvidsson, David Backes, David Krejci, Matt Beleskey, David Pastrnak, and more. No. 134 - Marleau Contraire
As on any given Sunday, go ahead and pop in your air buds-- it's time for little fantasy giants Elan and Brian to help you remember the titans (and not-so-titans) of this week's NHL action in a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!  In this week's injuries, it's a real case of you don't know what you've got til it's gone with a shelved even-strength stud in Pittsburgh, a still underappreciated centreman in Dallas, and a Lightning forward whose absences from the scoresheet are now further assured. In outjuries, the guys go back to the future in trying to imagine what 2/3 of the Panthers' first line can offer on offesne, and what that also means for former and remaining members of that top trio. They also head to the desert to wonder how excited it's reasonable to get about they Coyotes' likely top scorer, and then move slightly westward for a Kings forward who finally has returned to the lineup. This episode's hot streaks feature your Cane(s) of the Week, a powerless Senators centreman finding his way at even strength, a meh Shark becoming more whoa, Cody Franson???, a re-established Nashville #1, and a challenger for #1 on the Columbus blueline. Cold streaks end the show, with looks at an ever-alarming press box presence in Philadelphia, an unsprung foward in Minnesota, and a flickering Flame. Players discussed on this episode include Jonathan Huberdeau, Max Domi, Seth Jones, Chris Kunitz, Justin Schultz, Jason Zucker, J.T. Miller, Mark Giordano, Shane Gostisbehere, Mark Streit, Kris Letang, Conor Sheary, Jason Spezza, Patrick Eaves, Cody Eakin, Radek Faksa, Jiri Hudler, Devin Shore, Bryan Rust, Nick Bonino, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Vladislav Namestnikov, Alex Killorn, Alex Barkov, Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault, Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli, Peter Budaj, Jonathan Quick, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Max Pacioretty, Alex Steen, Paul Stastny, Robby Fabbri, David Perron, Jake Allen, Sebastian Aho, Elias Lindholm, Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner, Derick Brassard, Pekka Rinne, Juuse Saros, Zach Werenski, Sergei Bobrovsky, Cody Franson, Patrick Marleau, Sam Reinhart, Robin Lehner, Michal Neuvirth, Charlie Coyle, Ryan Suter, Dougie Hamilton, TJ Brodie, Mikael Backlund, Pavel Buchnevich, David Backes, Ryan Miller, Jacob Markstrom and more. No. 132 - Forgot About Ondrej
Roster moves around the league kick off this week's show, as we see an old-but-new #1 option re-emerge once more, an AHL dominator get another crack at a top top six, and the impacts of a coaching change in Long Island. In this week's infirmary, we consider the backup options for a goalie who'd just been finding his rhythm, a goalie who hasn't had a rhythm, a pair of blue-liners who can be trusted to step into high production roles, the Red Wings' top scorer, and whether or not extended absences in Florida are encouraging or deflating for the fantasy prospects on the rest of the roster. In this week's outfirmary: a couple new Rangers who are still establishing their point pace expectations, a dynamic d-man whose gamelog betrays expectations, and a Sabre with whom you'll only ever be satisfied if you maintain low expectations. As usual, streaks abound, including everything being upside-down in St Louis, a former team-leading scorer being demoted to coach-swears-it's-not-actually the third line, a couple of Wild going Wild, an attempt to pass the torch of top production on Calgary's blue line, a top six tourist and a slumping goal-getter in Boston, a top six mainstay in Ottawa who might be starting to play like one again, a long-time top six Leaf making the case that he truly velongs there, and a few goalies that Elan claims Brian has been wrong about. Players mentioned on this episode include Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Guentzel, Mathieu Perreault, Andrew Copp, Justin Schultz, Thomas Greiss, Anders Lee, Ryan Strome, Jonathan Bernier, Jhonas Enroth, Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg, Logan Shaw, Ryan Kesler, Semyon Varlamov, Calvin Pickard, Spencer Martin, Tyson Barrie, Francois Beuachemin, Erik Johnson, John Carlson, Philip Grubauer, Matt Niskanen, Andre Burakovsky, Alex Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau, Vincent Trocheck, Reilly Smith, Jussi Jokinen, Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault, Thomas Vanek, Anthony Mantha, Mike Zibanejad, Rick Nash, Pavel Buchnevich, PK Subban, Viktor Arvidsson, Tyler Ennis, Jaden Schwartz, Alex Steen, Paul Stastny, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Pheonix Copley, Nino Niederreiter, Zach Parise, Jason Pominville, Dougie Hamilton, Mark Giordano, TJ Brodie, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Frank Vatrano, David Pastrnak, David Backes, Tyler Bozak, Jordan Eberle, Bobby Ryan, Mike Condon, Ryan Miller, Cam Ward, and more. No. 131 - Ghost Busted
The Blue Jackets' streak is over, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's streak of appearing in your podcast feed on a weekly basis continues!  The show begins on an optimistic note with Outjuries, where we consider what can be expected by one old and one new Ranger returned to health, the upside of Montreal's #1 centre and his affect on some complementary pieces, a hopefully healed point-per-game Star, and if the return of Ryan Getzlaf can save Elan's bacon in the Rakell over/under bet. Underwhelming crease battles are renewed in Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, and a pair of blueliners come back to man their teams' top powerplay units. In injuries, the guys wonder if there's top pairing scoring potential from either of the Predators' second pairing mainstays, and also if it's time to just save yourself the headache and rid yourself of Kris Letang.  Hot streaks this week feature the latest of Connor McDavid's benefactors, John Tavares and his benefactors, Anze Kopitar and his benefactor, Torey Krug, and so many Hurricanes because they figured out how to score. Cold streaks include an Oiler on the outside who should be able to do better for himself, another who maybe shouldn't, and a Devil who doesn't happen to be getting in on any of the 1.5 goals the Devils score each game. The show is interspersed with a mess of conversations about goalie messes. Huge messes. Gross messes. Sad messes. So many goalies making messes. Players mentioned on this episode include Shane Gostisbehere, Alex Galchenyuk, Philip "Phil" Danault, Pavel Buchnevich, Rick Nash, Carey Price, Nick Holden, Michael Grabner, Paul Byron, Jamie Benn, Radek Faksa, Patrick Sharp, John Klingberg, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Rickard Rakell, Ben Bishop, Andrei Vasilevskiy, not Victor Hedman, Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Mark Streit, Ivan Provorov, Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Ellis, Mike Green, Antti Niemi, Kari Lehtonen, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Mason, James Neal, Viktor Arvidsson, Mike Fisher, Filip Forsberg, Auston Watson, Curtis McElhinney, Justin Schultz, Kris Letang, Joonas Korpisalo, Anton Forsberg, Sergei Bobrovsky, Sam Gagner, Alex Wennberg, Brandon Saad, Zach Werenski, Patrick Maroon, Milan Lucic, Jordan Eberle, Jon Tavares, Nick Leddy, Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, Jordan Stall, Brock McGinn, Victor Rask, Torey Krug, Patrice Bergeron, Mike Cammalleri, Braden Holtby, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Connor Hellebuyck, Michael Hutchinson and more. No. 129 - Eberle's Ills, 000000
It's the holiday edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, which is to say that it's exactly the same as all the others! Perhaps next week, when the podcast takes the week off, is the true holiday edition.. (take note: our next regular episode comes at you on January 8th).   Unwanted holidays begin our show, as Elan and Brian unwrap the effects of injuries around the NHL, including a couple of tender tenders in Tampa and Detroit, a shelved blueliner also in Detroit, and infirm top six forwards in New York and St. Louis. Returns from unwanted holidays follow, with kudos being handed out to a back-to-backup goalie in Chicago, best wishes to a Bruin forward edging his way out of the doghouse, and a couple of Hurricanes whose output will likely remain limited by their locale. Then, it's on to players gone AWOL, who've taken holidays without permission or approval from anyone. The guys lament the scoresheet absences of the next best Oiler after McDavid, a bandaid boy Blue, a couple of Habs, and the Sabre who was supposed to fix everything. We put a bow on this edition by saluting those players working overtime for your fantasy team, with four Blue Jackets, three Minnesota Wild, two Calgary Flames, and a Leafs goalie on a hot streak.  Players featured on this episode include Alex Wennberg, Cam Atkinson, Jordan Eberle, Mark Letestu, Matt Dumba, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brian Elliott, Matthew Tkachuk, Frederik Andersen, Petr Mrazek, Anthony Mantha, Shea Weber, Alex Radulov, Jack Eichel, Jimmy Howard, Jared Coreau, Ben Bishop, Kristers Gudlevskis, Mike Green, Rick Nash, Kyle Palmieri, Brandon Pirri, Mika Zibanejad, Derek Stepan, Ryan Sproul, Paul Stastny, Alex Steen, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Elias Lindholm, Derek Ryan, Eddie Lack, Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, Jason Zucker, Eric Staal, Niklas Kronwall, Brian Rafalski, Cory Schneider and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. If yes, then you'll love the opening to this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast-- and you'll hopefully find some value in the fantasy hockey news, analysis and advice that follows, too!   Elan and Brian kick off the show with a visit to the infirmary, where they consider whether there's already a perfectly capable replacement for Kris Letang in Pittsburgh, whether there's anyone even left to play for the Habs, how the heck Cory Conacher found his way back into the Lightning lineup (and use this as a springboard to consider whether Victor Hedman is a top ten keeper defenseman), who the heck this Seth Griffith guy is that appeared in the midst of Marchessault's returns and departures to the lineup, and whether there's any meaning in Pastrnak's injury for Patrice Bergeron's fortunes rest of year.   Then they head over to the outfirmary, where they question Avs' management's handling of their should-be-peaking captain, wonder what Chicago's lines will possibly look like going forward, and chatter about whether anyone playing with the Flames' two best forwards is worth owning.   In hot streaks, they bicker (again!) over the future of a Duck on fire, a recently snoozing Senator, another blueline producer in Toronto, a Tavares linemate in Brooklyn, a sizeable chunk of the top nine in Minnesota, a Barracuda temporarily(?) evolved into a Shark, the obvious number one goalie in New York, and a guy who is awful but throws a billion hits, so he's got that going for him.   And just a couple cold streaks this week, featuring this week's victim of the St Louis Blues shuffle (but is there more to it than that?), a Star whose lost his grip on the coattails he's been riding, and a curiously underperforming super Star whose once long coattails have suddenly shrunk.   The show closes off with a few guys Brian tosses in at the end, including a dream sequence still continuing in Carolina, a secretive resurgence in Washington, and the very early seeds of a crease controversy for a Pacific team that's been without one for ages.   Players featured on this episode include Justin Schultz, Patric Hornqvist, Patrice Bergeron, Frank Vatrano, Kris Letang, Jeff Petry, Seth Griffith, Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Jussi Jokinen, Cory Conacher, Victor Hedman, Tyler Johnson, Gabriel Landeskog, Jarome Iginla, Jonathan Toews, Artem Anisimov, Marian Hossa, Kris Versteeg, Sean Monahan, Troy Brouwer, Johnny Gaudreau, TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano, Chad Johnson, Brian Elliott, Rickard Rakell, Sami Vatanen, Shea Theodore, Corey Perry, Bobby Ryan, Jake Gardiner, James van Riemsdyk,  Nazem Kadri, Anders Lee, Josh Bailey, Eric Staal, Nino Niderreiter, Mikko Koivu, Timo Meier, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raana, Mark Borowiecki, Alex Steen, Patrick Eaves, Jamie Benn, Derek Ryan, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Antti Niemi, Pekka Rinne, Juuse Saros and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. No. 127 - Raanta Awes
Too early for a holiday-related episode title? This brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast makes no apologies!    This week's edition kicks off with injuries, where we pause to consider how the Montreal Canadiens put up a ten-spot without two of their top three centremen, as well as how anything good can happen in Arizona with a key component of their first line gone for a while. And yes, Martin Hanzal is healthy..   There's much more happening in outjuries, where we've got a Predator and Senator goal-scorers whose gamelogs aren't all that dissimilar to when they were injured, a reliable top-sixer getting his spot back in Washington, and a masked Red Wing who'll be looking to regain the pre-injury form that had eluded him for a long, long, long, long while.   Speaking of goalies, weirdness continues to pervade keeper numbers and performances and tandems around the league, with a sudden extended rest for a legendary Ranger tendy, an apparent attempt at a tandem in Colorado, a turn away from a heretofore #1 in Winnipeg, and Cory Schneider doing his best Cam Ward impression.   Cold streaks this week sweep through an entire Metropolitan squad, key components of an Atlantic team, a couple guys named Zach, and a usually reliable King. Hot streaks include a guy Brian called a snoozer last week, a guy Elan called a snoozer last week, a still kind of hopeless buy maybe not Cap, a Cap tease, as well as a less hopeless Cap, a Blue and an Oiler who find themselves this week's beneficiaries of their teams' usual line shuffling, a bunch of Islanders(!?), a former Isle, and two Penguins d-men who Brian will again tell you not to rush to pick up.   Players featured on this episode include Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec, Antti Raanta, Henrik Lundqvist, Max Domi, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson, TJ Oshie, Evgeni Kuznetsov, John Carlson, Bobby Ryan, Petr Mrazek, Jimmy Howard, Marcus Johansson, Radim Vrbata, Tobias Rieder, Anthony DeAngelo, Michael Stone, Mike Smith, Chet Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Pekka Rinne, Michael Hutchinson, Connor Hellebuyck, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Victor Rask, Derek Ryan, Jaccob Slavin,  Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher, Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu, Eric Staal, Zach Werenski Andrew Shaw, David Desharnais, Alex Radulov, Paul Byron, Philip Danault, Tyler Toffoli, Sam Gagner, Marian Gaborik, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth, Robby Fabbri, John Tavares, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Frans Nielsen, Justin Schultz, Ian Cole, Drake Caggiula and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. No. 126 - Eichel, Jack's In
Want to know what's on Brian's shelf? Well, you're in luck: the 126th episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast tells you that, and more! With the "more" being cutting edge and deeply informative fantasy analysis on the most important hockey news of the past week.   Big things are expected from this week's outjuries, as it's October in December for poolies who have Jack Eichel or any of his linemates. How much can he do for them? Same question for high-end forwards returning to boost top sixes in St Louis, Winnipeg, New Jersey, Pitsburgh and Calgary.   In a brand new segment this week, entitled Appendectomies and other Injuries, Elan and Brian discuss whether Scott Darling is the de facto number one on the league's top team while Corey Crawford is out, or whether that title can't possibly be bestowed on Chicago if Crawford's not in their lineup (not to mention Toews). We also mention a couple fallen Stars, and an unheralded Avalanche blueliner who will be dearly missed by his owners for the duration of his injury.   Hot streaks on this edition include a feast-or-famine Oiler who's currently feasting, a Bolt who quietly stepped up in Stamkos's absence, a Senator whose buy low window may now be closed, a shooting and hitting Blue Jacket with a couple recent points to his name, a Bruins D left for dead, a Coyote leading his team in scoring, and a Red Wings rookie riding shotgun with a streaking vet.   Cold streaks include a Dallas d-man, so disempowered players in Montreal, a demoted Coyote, a heretofore PP1 contributor in Columbus, and so many of the Florida Panthers.    Players featured on this episode include Jack Eichel, Alex Steen, Taylor Hall, Conor Sheary, Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Chad Johnson, Alex Barkov, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, Roberto Luongo, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Julius Honka, John Klingberg, Jason Spezza, Erik Johnson, Tyson Barrie, Francois Beauchemin, Leon Draisaitl, Oscar Klefbom, Andrej Sekera, Valtteri Filppula, Jonathan Drouin, Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone, Kyle Turris, Erik Karlsson, Anthony Mantha, Henrik Zetterberg, Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher, Anthony DeAngelo, Brandon Saad, Boone Jenner, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen, Sam Gagner, Radim Vrbata, Sam Reinhart, Evander Kane, Rasmus Ristolainen, Nik Ehlers, Blake Wheeler, Vladimir Tarasenko, Kevin Shattenkirk, Colton Parayko, Travis Zajac, Adam Henrique, and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. No. 125 - Leisure Suit Cammalleri
Welcome to the quasiquincentennial edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!   Injuries open this week's episode, as Elan and Brian get into who's out of the lineup, and who's moving up the depth chart as a result. We take a look at the top six in Pittsburgh, a nail in the coffin in Carolina, an unheralded shooting wizard moving on up in Nashville, a de-railed PP1 coup in Washington, and open doors to creases in the Pacific and Atlantic. There's also movement in the F corps in Toronto, Philadelphia and New York.   Outjuries follow, with the guys taking stock of several players returning to lineups already in progress. A pair of Kings enter an ace lineup, a top six forward in New Jersey that Brian urged you to pick up last week does heavenly things for himself and others, a Sabre tries to sharpen his team's shooting, and depth Panthers and Blue Jackets may only be drops in larger buckets.   Who's hot this week? We'll tell you! Specifically, there is a Duck who is actually scoring more goals than maybe he should, a couple Blues feeling downright jazzy, and a couple Canucks desperately trying to make the most of their situations.   Who's snoozing this week? We'll tell you that, too! Hover over the drop button for blueliners in Columbus, Boston and Minnesota, a couple goalies in the Metropolitan, and a forward in Philly.   Players featured on this episode include Jake Guentzel, Calvin Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Petr Mrazek, Cam Ward, Viktor Arvidsson, James Neal, William Nylander, Leo Komarov, Nikita Soshnikov, Nazem Kadri, Mitch Marner, John Carlson, Chris Kunitz, Jesper Fast, Chris Kreider, Travis Konecny, Wayne Simmonds, Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli, Peter Budaj, Carey Price, Tuukka Rask, Devan Dubnyk, Michael Cammalleri, Ryan O'Reilly, Evander Kane, Nick Bjugstad, Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Oscar Klefbom, David Perron, Jaden Schwartz, Rickard Rakell, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Brandon Carlo, Jaroslav Halak, JF Berube, Ryan Kesler, Jakob Silfverberg, Jonathan Bernier, Loui Eriksson, Bo Horvat, Keith Kinkaid, Cory Schneider, Matt Dumba, Matt Murray, Marc-Andre Fleury and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. No. 124 - Wards of Warning
Erik Karlsson's engaged, and we hope you are, too, throughout this entire brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!   This episode kicks off with a list of injuries to star players that might just be the kick in the pants their healthy teammates need to finally get going. We pore over the depth charts in Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Calgary and Washington to figure out who might be ready to pick up the slack, with a particular nod to a Devil you know from last season.   Elan and Brian then go the other way to outjuries, considering whether the heretofore top line right winger in Dallas might finally get bumped, marveling at an entire top line that is criminally underowned, wondering whether a returning Red Wing offers any hope on a points-poor roster, and more.   Finally, the guys run down current hot streaks around the NHL, including the other point man in Montreal, the other winger in Vancouver, the other rookie in Toronto, the other McDavid linemate in Edmonton, the other Anisimov linemate in Chicago, and the other other guys in Winnipeg.   And somewhere along the way, they fight about Cam Ward and Jimmy Howard, while remaining reasonably calm on Mike Smith and Connor Hellebuyck.   Players featured on this episode include Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Drouin, Taylor Hall, Damon Severson, Michael Cammalleri, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, Chad Johnson, Brian Elliott, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Ben Bishop, Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton, TJ Oshie, Justin Williams, John Carlson, Andre Burakovsky, Bobby Ryan, Pavel Buchnevitch, Tomas Hertl, JT Miller, Mika Zibanejad, Jimmy Vesey, Chris Kunitz, Patric Hornqvist, Kevin Labanc, Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Patrick Sharp, Patrick Eaves, Jason Spezza, Antoine Roussel, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata, Max Domi, Matt Niskanen, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Thomas Vanek, Henrik Zetterberg, Dylan Larkin, Jimmy Howard, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Petr Mrazek, Cam Ward, Andrei Markov, Victor Rask, Teuvo Teravainen, Brandon Sutter, Troy Stecher, James van Riemsdyk, Mitch Marner, Tyler Bozak, Morgan Rielly, Marian Hossa, Artem Anisimov, Jesse Puljujarvi, Milan Lucic, Patrick Maroon, Jordan Eberle, Marko Dano, Nic Petan, Connor Hellebuyck, and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by DRAFT!  It's a super fun and simple daily fantasy app where you build your team through a snake draft with your opponent, and then compete through the night's or week's games. No. 123 - Skjei My Name
Another episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, another argument about Steve Mason!   Elan and Brian butt heads right off the top over whether a fresh injury to Michal Neuvirth lays out a road to recovery for Steve Mason's 2016-17 season. There's less contention as they unpack the consequences of injuries to bluelines in Carolina and Columbus (btw, is Nick Foligno for real??), and thinner-than-you'd-think top sixes in Los Angeles and Colorado.   Outjuries and cold streaks are one and the same this week, as Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Jacob Trouba and former shootout specialist Jussi Jokinen have yet to make an impact since re-joining their teams. Top power-play defensemen are also sputtering in Winnipeg, Florida, Colorado and Calgary-- we'll let you know whether you can expect the outages to continue with those players, as well as a banging Oiler, a quieter wunderkind Maple Leaf, and the entire Senators and Blues rosters.   And for every cold blue-liner, there's a hot one-- a Ranger and Coyote are both getting opportunities to make positive first impressions in the NHL, and an oft-cycled Flyer is suddenly hitting people. The guys also give props to streaking masked men in Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Nashville, along with a pair of revived veteran centremen in Minnesota and New Jersey.   The show rounds out with three snoozers: players that you might have on your roster without realizing they're no longer doing anything at all for your team. One of them scored 77 points last year, and Elan would drop him for Eric Staal in a shallow league.   Players featured on this episode include Steve Mason, Brady Skjei, Anthony DeAngelo, Seth Jones, Nick Foligno, Noah Hanifin, Pekka Rinne, Eric Staal, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Travis Zajac, Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Ryan Kesler, Jacob Trouba, Jussi Jokinen, Jonathan Marchessault, Reilly Smith, Vincent Trocheck, Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza, Kari Lehtonen, Antti Niemi, Tyson Barrie, Mark Giordano, Richard Panik, Aaron Ekblad, Auston Matthews, Mark Stone, Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan, Derrick Brassard, Mike Hoffman, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Milan Lucic, Patrick Maroon, Michael del Zotto, Matt Murray, Robby Fabbri, Teuvo Teravainen, Troy Stecher and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by DRAFT!  It's a super fun and simple daily fantasy app where you build your team through a snake draft with your opponent, and then compete through the night's or week's games. No. 122 - Color Me Ladd
Is patience a virtue? This week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is all about the players who are are most likely to be testing your tolerance with early-season slumps. Elan and Brian are here to help you decide whether to grant a stay of execution to these heretofore snoozers, or to cut your losses and move on. You've been asking all week for permission to let go of several skaters after watching them struggle to score for ten-plus games. Can a new Islander make more of a dent towards gaining back the 134 points sent out the door in the offseason? Is a young Panther centreman able to produce without his left-hand man? Were we fooled by an early-season surge by a perennial tease in St. Louis? Do two of three triplets deserve to survive on your roster? Will a Calgary forward's stat line continue to be as boring as he is?  The guys also examine the other side of the coin, which features a surprising selection of point-per-game players from around the league. Will several Blue Jackets continue lighting the lamp? Can a trio of Rangers possibly crack fifty points with only third line minutes and no power-play time? Did our earlier haste make waste of an opportunity to ride a Chicago centreman's ten game point streak? Can a Devils' d-man contend for forty points while barely putting any shots on net? All that, and more, on this week's episode! Players featured on this episode include Sergei Bobrovsky, Steve Mason, Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Colton Sceviour, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Paul Stastny, Jaden Schwartz, Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Michael Frolik, Derek Stepan, Poor Torey Krug, Andrew Ladd, Leon Draisaitl, Loui Eriksson, Radim Vrbata, Semyon Varlamov, Calvin Pickard, Jake Allen, Alexander Wennberg, Nick Foligno, Zach Werenski, Damon Severson, Yohann Auvitu, Artem Anisimov, Marian Hossa, JT Miller, Kevin Hayes, Michael Grabner, Marcus Johansson, Rickard Rakell, Dennis Seidenberg,, Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin, Cal Clutterbuck, Evander Kane, David Backes, David Krejci, Conor Sheary, Niklas Kronwall, Mike Green, Carl Hagelin and more. No. 121 - Dzingel All The Way
Will Mikko Rantanen meet high expectations in year one? Has Radko Gudas metamorphosed into an offensive force? Can the league's best five-on-five goal-scoring team continue being that after losing their best player to injury? Is there a chance for the newly-signed Hampus Lindholm to actually do anything on a crowded Anaheim blueline? How are Talbot, Dubnyk, and Rask doing so well? Is it time to rename the Habs' powerplay after one of its featured players? Hanifin or Matheson or Severson? And what about Carlson and the other slumping superstars in Washington? And Nashville!? The answers to those questions, along with news and analysis on your latest NHL injuries, outjuries, line changes, hot streaks, cold streaks and miscellany in another jam-packed episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. No. 120 - Werenski or Die
Afraid you've missed a single hockey news item or note from the past week? Or that you're misreading the numbers while trying to make sense of the outlandish player performances to date? Let this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast be your antidote! Pearson-mania all over again? Matthews a top ten scorer? Is there an impressive Canuck? Is Brouwer a more interesting human being than fantasy own? Do we have a Jack Campbell sighting on the horizon? Time to panic about Panik? Jimmy How-muchlongercanhepossiblykeepthisup? Boone no longer a boon for fantasy owners? Montoya earning greater share of the starts? Elan begins by going way off script to officially anoint the heir of his hashtag-team allegiance for this season, and then gets to a welcome group of outjuries that are shaking up depth charts, including a new opportunity for a returned St Louis Blue, and a way out of the doghouse for a Boston Bruin. Then it's over to injuries, where we draw particular attention to a new second-best power play option in Pittsburgh, weak goalie depth in Arizona and LA. Taking a tour of hot streaks around the league, Elan and Brian work to figure out when two overachieving Blackhawks may come down to earth, whether a Detroit blue-liner has hope of regaining his form of yesteryear, which ice time distribution quirks are favouring which Hurricanes, and whether Huberdeau's replacement in Florida is earning his keep on the top line. Elan also gets pretty sad about not having enough patience for a certain Leaf centreman to contribute to his roster, and gets very un-sad about a second line centre in Colorado. The guys also examine the meaning of roster moves made in Columbus and Anaheim, and line changing madness happening in Calgary, Nashville and New Jersey-- the last of which has Elan wondering whether there's more than one fantasy relevant Devil to be owned. The show wraps up with some early snoozer candidates, including this year's edition of a quality winger struggling in Vancouver, a non-Okposo in Brooklyn, a couple goalies struggling in Canadian creases, and an Atlantic PPQB with nothing to show for his efforts. Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Richard Panik, Auston Matthews, Jimmy Howard, Tanner Pearson, Zach Werenski, Shayne Gostisbehere, Mike Green, Jaden Schwartz, David Perron, Nail Yakupov, Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Tanner Pearson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Peters, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Jack Campbell, Patrick Sharp, Ales Hemsky, Brett Ritchie, Radek Faksa, Justin Schultz, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith, Jonathan Marchessault,  Lee Stempniak, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, Alex Killorn, Petr Mrazek, Nazem Kadri, Kari Lehtonen, Sergey Bobrovsky, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Matt Duchene, Mikhail Grigorenki, Mikko Rantanen, Shea Theodore, Brandon Carlo, Torey Krug, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Boone Jenner, Johnny Boychuk, Kris Versteeg, Troy Brouwer, Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, TJ Brodie, Brian Elliott, Frederik Andersen, Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Andrew Ladd and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 119 - Auston Translation
Boxscores! Line juggling! On-ice events! Terrible goaltending performances! They're all finally here after a long season of waiting, and the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is here to catch you up on all that you need to know about the first five days of NHL regular season play. First off, what the heck should you do with your team post-draft? Should you tinker with adds/drops or stand pat? Elan and Brian dish out some advice on early season management strategies, describing how they evaluate and react to the first handful of games played in a season. Next, they dig into the first week's most tantalizing performances, rolling through a list of the vets, rookies and tweeners who are scoring above a point-per-game pace at this early stage, and making the call on whether they're 'add now!!'s or wait-and-sees.  Elan and Brian then go over a handful of injuries, specifically speculating on what the heck might happen in LA's crease. A discussion of players on cold streaks-- or, well, whatever you'd call guys who are scoreless in back to back games to start the season-- rounds out the show. Players discussed on this episode include Connor McDavid, Brad Marchand, Auston Matthews, Jonathan Marchesseault, David Pastrnak, Richard Panik, Joe Colborne, Leon Draisaitl, Paul Stastny, Nail Yakupov, the STL D corps, Erik Karlsson, Zack Smith, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich, Rick Nash, Mika Zibanejad, Patrick Laine, Mark Scheifele, Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Mitch Marner, Nazem Kadri, Oscar Klefbom, Andrej Sekera, Jake Gardiner, Nikita Zaitsev, every other Leaf, Blake Wheeler, Nik Ehlers, Mathieu Perreault, Jarome Iginla, Matt Duchene, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata, Christian Dvorak, Jonathan Quick, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Okposo, PA Parenteau, Taylor Hall, Travis Zajac, Kris Versteeg, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Daniel Tkachuk, Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg, Nick Ritchie, Cam Fowler, Devin Setoguchi, Jeff Carter, Dwight King, Seth Griffith, Teemu Pulkkinen, Mike Condon, Tomas Vanek, Sean Couturier, Bradyen Schenn, Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, John Tavares, Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera, Josh Bailey, Artemi Panarin, Jiri Hudler, Patrick Eaves, Dougie Hamilton, Dennis Wideman, Travis Konecny and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 118 - Dinged Crosby
Two sleeps until the NHL regular season begins, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is already in full swing with a new episode jam-packed with all of the latest hockey news and fantasy spin.  We start with two awful real-life injuries that have an urgent fantasy impact, suggesting which Penguins and Panthers may get or take a bump while Crosby and Huberdeau are on the shelf. Then, Elan and Brian turn their attention to the NHL's waiver wire, where 3 more-than-serviceable players sit after being surprisingly let go in advance of the season opener. In particular, Brian plays the role of wet blanket to perfection by doubting whether Ondrej Pavelec's waiving means clear skies ahead for Hellebuyck, and also provides his dream scenario for P.A. Parenteau in 2016-17. The guys then roll through some of the season's newest Calder Trophy candidates as news trickles out of which prospects are making their teams out of camp, with stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Anaheim, Toronto, Columbus and Montreal. Finally, we share all the opening night line combos we've seen and mine them for hints at fantasy fortunes in the year ahead, zeroing in on a top-line winger in Detroit, a questionable piece in Ottawa's top six, an expected shift in Chicago, a rising youngster in Boston, and a multi-generational combo in Arizona. And still, there's more! The Yakupov trade, how to handle injured players, whether to trade for injured players, RFA situations, last-minute IR stashes, pre-season scoring leaders.. and tons more info that'll give you the early upper-hand in your fantasy pool as we head into the season. Players discussed on this episode include Sidney Crosby, Nail Yakupov, David Perron, Kris Russell, Jonathan Huberdeau, Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Steen, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jussi Jokinen, Michael del Zotto, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Brayden Schenn, Joonas Korpisalo, Sergei Bobrovsky, Marian Gaborik, Nikita Kucherov, Johnny Gaudreau, Hampus Lindholm, Rasmus Ristolainen, Rickard Rakell, Nick Ritchie, Jacob Trouba, Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck, Michael Hutchinson, P.A. No. 117 - Sold (The KKUPFL Auction Incident)
On this week's episode Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we try something different, giving you a behind the scenes, unedited and uncut look at the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantrax League's Championship Division auction draft. Elan and Brian have a quick chat to open the show about lessons they may or may not have learned from their super competitive auction draft experiences. We then share the live broadcast of the KKUPFL Tier 1 auction draft, hosted by Elan and Jeff Good, which Brian repeatedly tries to join only to have to suddenly leave when players he wants get nominated. We laugh, we cry, we talk about the fantasy value of players as they're drafted, we heap criticism upon Brian's real-time decisions whenever possible. Later this week, keep an eye out for our interview with Peter Harling of Dobber Prospects Radio where we'll offer up some thoughts on which rookies are ready to make a fantasy impact in 2016-17, and then we'll be back with our next episode about all the preseason comings and goings on Monday, October 10.  See the auction draft results at http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/blog, and view the live auction video on our youtube channel at http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/youtube. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 116 - Fancy Fantasy 2016: Which 'Advanced' ...
As called for by annual tradition, it's time for the 2016 edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's Advanced Stats Primer! 'Which advanced stats are the ones that'll give me a leg up in my pool?' is one of the questions we get most often, and this is the episode where Elan and Brian run down the list of new-ish numbers that they use for their fantasy analysis throughout the year. The guys offer a crash course in finding and understanding rate stats, shooting percentages, IPP, shot attempts for, relative stats, primary assists, and the effects of new coaches, so that you can be a step ahead of your fantasy competition and also keep up with us as we bounce these numbers around through the season. We're also joined by social scientist Stefan Wolejszo, who explains that just because we can't see a quality doesn't mean that it's not there. He describes how often misunderstood character traits-- like resilience and leadership-- really can have measurable effects on hockey players and team dynamics. No. 114 - Smörgoåliesbord!! 2016
The episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast you've been waiting all summer for: it's Smörgoåliesbord 2016! *kermit-style wildly waving arms and hands motions*   Elan and Brian tell you all about goalie tiering: what it is, why you need to do it for your draft, and what info you should use to guide you in your tiering. Then, they share their own 2016-17 tiers! Can Henrik Lundqvist hang on to his well-worn seat in Tier 1? Just how high will Martin Jones rate on the strength of one fantastic year? Should you draft Murray before Fleury, or the other way around? Does Sergei Bobrovsky hold steady or continue free-falling to lower tiers? Is Steve Mason actually better than Michal Neuvirth? Which as-of-now #1 goalies are ripe for the picking, with quality backups chomping at the bit for more time in the crease? We discuss literally-- literally!-- every goalie that has a chance to see time in an NHL crease this season. Those goalies include: Henrik Lundqvist, Braden Holtby, Martin Jones, Carey Price, Ben Bishop, Pekka Rinne, Jonathan Quick, Tuukka Rask, Roberto Luongo, Corey Crawford, Cory Schneider, Connor Hellebuyck, Sergei Bobrovsky, Peter Mrazek, Steve Mason, Mike Smith, John Gibson, Jake Allen, Frederik Andersen, Craig Anderson, Semyon Varlamov, Devan Dubnyk, Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Antti Niemi, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Jacob Markstrom, Cam Talbot, Brian Elliott, Robin Lehner, Andrew Hammond, Thomas Greiss, Jaroslav Halak, James Reimer, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Joonas Korpisalo, Michal Neuvirth, Ondrej Pavelec, Al Montoya, Carter Hutton, Calvin Pickard, Jhonas Enroth, and many more but I'm going to stop here because I already told you that we talked about every 1st string, 2nd string, and even a bunch of 3rd string goalies who could possibly guard an NHL net this year. Woo! And a special thanks to Ryan Krieg over at PuckTees.org for the super-cool NES Ice Hockey meets World Cup of Hockey shirts we got to wear for this episode! * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Bonus Episode: What are Goalies?, with Nick Mer...
It's another bonus episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Are goalies really the Papa Shangos of the NHL? Hockey-graphs contributor and goaltending analyst Nick Mercadante joins Brian for an hour-long chat to try and demystify hockey's masked men. The two of them review the pitfalls of conventional goaltending evaluation, the benefits of Nick's new goalie evaluation metric adjGSAA/60 (aka Mercad/60), goalie ageing curves, and projecting goaltender performance.  They also put several of 2015-16's unexpected goaltending performances under the microscope, looking for clues to see whether collapsed goalies are due to rebound, whether goalies riding high can keep from collapsing, and whether 2016-17's likely crop of first-timer #1 goalies will have what it takes to weather their new workloads. The episode wraps up with some crease-based mythbusting regarding the effects of a strong backup on a #1 goalie, and whether enormous amounts of games played really can help a goalie thrive. Goalies discussed on this episode include Henrik Lundqvist, Roberto Luongo, Jonathan Quick, Sergei Bobrovsky, Connor Hellebuyck, Pekka Rinne, Tuukka Rask, Matt Murray, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Elliott, Jake Allen, Frederik Andersen, Steve Mason, John Gibson, Michal Neuvirth, Cam Ward and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 112 - Elite No More?
On last week's edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian chatted about players on the verge of becoming must-pick guys in the first couple rounds of your draft. This week, they have a look at the other side of that coin: players who no longer deserve the honour of those early round draft picks. The show kicks off with your fantasy spin on the latest news from around the NHL, including the thrilling conclusion of VeseyWatch and its implications on an oddly deep F corps in New York, a newly acquired top six candidate in Dallas, an under-the-radar backup in Toronto, a new face behind the bench in Colorado, and a new prospect acquired in Arizona whose name definitely rhymes with "house" and not "news." Next, your fearless prognosticators name their candidates for players that inspire skepticism when you see them slated once again to get picked in the early rounds. Elan and Brian dig into a couple of vets reuniting with their first coach, a centreman who saw a change of scenery halfway through last year, another centreman who is watching the scenery change around him, a potentially post-peak goal-scoring winger, and a recently ascended PPQB who was working through injury last year. Players discussed on this episode include Jimmy Vesey, Brandon Pirri, Ryan McDonagh, Jiri Hudler, Jason Spezza, Valeri Nichushkin, Jhonas Enroth, Frederik Andersen, Calvin Pickard, Lawson Crouse, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Henrik Zetterberg, Jonathan Toews and the ghosts of LW past, Marian Hossa, Ryan Johansen, Nick Foligno, Max Pacioretty, Alex Galchenyuk, Nathan Gerbe, Michael Grabner, Matt Niskanen, John Carlson and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 104 - I Was Saying Bou-cher
The Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's Summer Series rolls on, as Elan and Brian continue to single out players who offered pleasantly surprising production in the 2015-16 NHL regular season, and look under the hood to see whether or not you can rely on them to do it again in 2016-17. Right off the bat, Elan is entertained as he goads Brian into blowing off some steam about the Ottawa Senators coaching situation, before the two of them move on to consider the possibilities of bench boss impacts around the league.  The guys also chat about a couple second-string goaltenders who might be affecting future outlooks and values for the guys who spent the bulk of 2015-16 ahead of them on the depth chart, and they sift through 10 years of rookie performances to come up with a ceiling and a floor for presumptive first overall pick and future Maple Leaf (gasp!) Auston Matthews. Players discussed on this episode include Auston Matthews, Matt Murray, Thomas Greiss, Jaro Halak, Marc-Andre Fleury, Joe Thornton, Mark Giordano, Ryan Kesler, Jaromir Jagr, Jussi Jokinen, Patrice Bergeron, William Nylander, Thomas Vanek, Mike Hoffman, Jack Eichel, Dougie Hamilton, Scott Darling, Corey Crawford, Tomas Vokoun, and more. No. 100 - J.F. Berwhoube?
It's the 100th episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, and we're celebrating like we've been there before, as Elan and Brian forego any major celly and proceed to once again motor on through all of the latest fantasy hockey news and provide the thorough analysis that you need to win your pool. On this 100th go-around, we kick things off with some of the most notable Outjuries of the year happening at a key time, as three elite blue-liners make a return to their respective lineups with fantasy hockey championships on the line.  We also keep an eye on the continued unlikely developments in creases around the league, bouncing from St Louis, to New Jersey, to Long Island, with stops in Calgary and San Jose on the way (granted, a terribly inefficient real-life itinerary). Some unfamiliar names are heating up, including a couple Blues who are the unexpected leaders in team scoring since the start of February. Meanwhile, some very familiar names are cooling off, begging the question of whether it's time to cut bait with star players in Boston, New York and Vancouver, rather than risk running out of room in your semi-finals and finals matchups. We also take a look at a call-up in Anaheim, a very notable outjuried forward in Winnipeg, the sparse bluelines in Ottawa and Tampa, a productive Coyote d-man with initials that aren't OEL, a couple role-playing Oilers who are catching our eye, and injuries and their implications from Tampa, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Ottawa, San Jose and more. And remember: SeatGeek is offering our listeners a $20 rebate off your first ticket purchase! Just head to their website or download the app, go to your profile, and enter the promo code KEEPING before buying your tickets! Players discussed on this episode include Scott Wedgewood, J.F. Berube, Justin Faulk, John Carlson, Daniel Sedin, Robby Fabbri, Henrik Sedin, Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Letestu, Patrick Maroon, Justin Schultz, Dion Phaneuf, Michael Stone, Jason Pominville, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Keith Kinkaid, Kevin Klein, Brian Elliott, Jake Allen, Paul Stastny, Thomas Greiss, Jared Spurgeon, David Krejci, Rickard Rakell, Rick Nash, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Martin Jones, Paul Martin, Chris Wideman, Joni Ortio, Niklas Backstrom, Chad Johnson, Andrej Sekera, Shea Theodore, Cory Schneider, Anton Stralman, Matt Carle, Victor Hedman, Jamie McGinn, Brandon Pirri and many more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Elan and Brian have all the tips and analysis you'll need to recover on this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. Malkin is far from the only player injured this week, as we're watching depth charts shaken up around the league as the injury ninja continues his relentless late season assault. Islanders, Canadiens, Panthers, Stars, Ducks, Avalanche and Wings are all making adjustments accordingly, and we've got the scoop on who's playing with who, and in what role. On the flipside of that coin, so many Outjuries® this week, too! This episode has our usual look and how players in Edmonton, New York, Columbus, Arizona, Chicago, Florida, Carolina and Calgary are re-entering the lineup, and whether they'll get to reclaim their usual spots or be forced to lie in wait until an opportunity presents itself. This edition winds down with a list of players who are wound up! We cover a whole slate of lesser-owned players who are hot and ready to contribute to your fantasy team, including a Long Island blue-liner, a feisty Maple Leaf, an under-the-radar young Sabre, a rookie Blue, and an I-didn't-even-know-he-was-a Devil. No. 97 - Eric's Trip
The trade deadline has come and gone, and that means a bunch of new players in a bunch of new jerseys with a bunch of new linemates, all of which will be covered on this week's brand new edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Elan and Brian begin this week's show by cataloguing the myriad injuries plaguing (fantasy) teams, and which free agent acquisitions could help fill the void for both their real-life clubs and fantasy owners. Top line players hitting the shelf in Edmonton, Ottawa and Dallas highlight the segment, as well as goaltending boo-boos in New York, Ottawa, Dallas, Winnipeg, Columbus and New Jersey. Meanwhile, some healthy goalies have been knocked out of their crease for just plain ol' playing badly, and so we're also keeping tabs on evolving 'tender situations in Colorado, Detroit and Philadelphia. The show rolls on with an eye towards the most high profile players that were traded on deadline day, along with a couple under-the-radar choices whose value may have risen thanks to their new digs. We take a look at changes of scenery for a new Avalanche, Coyote, Ranger, Bruin and Duck. Finally, the show closes out with our notes on who's hot and cold over the last week or two. We tip our hat to a Penguin whose name Elan loves to say in a special way, a trio of Predators playing from the so-called second line, a pair of Lightning who need to shape up before they're shipped off, a sneaky depth blueline add making muffled noise in Vancouver, and a Detroit duo who have both gone MIA at the worst time. A reminder to our listeners that SeatGeek is offering you a $20 rebate off your first purchase! Just head to their website or download the app, go to your profile, and enter the promo code KEEPING before picking up your tickets. Players discussed on this episode include Nail Yakupov, Patrick Maroon, Zack Smith, Mika Zibanejad, JG Pageau, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta, Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone, Semyon Varlamov, Calvin Pickard, Alex Goligoski, John Klingberg, Patrick Sharp, Brett Ritchie, Cory Schneider, Nik Ehlers, Drew Stafford, Petr Mrazek, Jimmy Howard, Brandon Saad, Brendan Gallagher, Mikkel Boedker, Alex Tanguay, Anthony Duclair, Eric Staal, Derek Stepan, Anton Stalberg, Tobias Lindberg, Lee Stempniak, Jamie McGinn, Corey Perry, Rickard Rakell, Patric Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby, Filip Forsberg, Mike Ribeiro, Craig Smith, Pekka Rinne, Ryan Callahan, Alex Killorn, Steven Stamkos, Ben Hutton, Henrik Sedin, Henrik Zetterberg, Dylan Larkin, Jack Eichel, Valeri Nichushkin and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Players are being moved left and right, but Elan and Brian are still right here to bring you the goods in a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. Trades stole the spotlight all week long, raising all kinds of questions. Where do the newest Panther forwards line up on the depth chart? No. 95 - Lehner's Permit
Brace yourselves: it's the second ever live episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! In an action-packed 80 minutes on the air, Elan and Brian bring up and break down all of the latest news from every corner of the National Hockey League. The show kicks off with a look at the suddenly rejuvenated Wild, where we discuss if their recent mini win streak means that they're turning the corner for good, or if it's all just a mirage. We then dig deep into Brian's hoarded stash of old newspapers in an attempt to gain insight into the mind of Ken Hitchcock, and whether we can apply any hints from the past in trying to predict how he'll choose the starters in the St. Louis nets in the coming weeks. Other creases around the league get a similar glimpse, including goaltending 'situations' in Buffalo, Long Island, and Carolina. Then, we turn our attention to some of the hottest-- and coldest-- players in the NHL, and take a look under the hood to see whether or not a change in fortune awaits them in the near future, for better or for worse. And, finally, we take a few questions from our live studio audience, including thoughts on Anaheim's front and back ends, best candidates for a change of scenery, a potential hole to be filled on Calgary's top line, and which NHLer we'd want to see on Survivor.Players discussed on this episode include Jared Staal, Jason Spezza, Patrick Sharp, Jason Pominville, Jake Allen, Brian Elliott, Charlie Coyle, Martin Hanzal, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Joakim Nordstrom, Brayden Schenn, Martin Hanzal, Robin Lehner, Thomas Greiss, Jaroslav Halak, Shane Gostisbehere, Kyle Turris, Mike Green, Matthew Dumba, Mikko Koivu, Jared Spurgeon, Ryan Callahan, Marian Hossa, Andrew Shaw, Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar, Bryan Little, Nikolai Ehlers, Andrew Ladd, Jiri Hudler, David Perron, Cam Fowler, Ryan O'Reilly, Evander Kane, Ivan Provorov, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Kevin Connauton, Michael Stone, Andre Burakovsky, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Claude Giroux, Mattias Janmark, Patrick Eaves, Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, Martin Erat, Marty Turco, Ed Belfour, John Scott, and more.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 89 - Throw Johansen the Air
Last week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast was all about catching up on two weeks' worth of action, and this week we're all about getting you ahead of the curve with all of the latest fantasy hockey news, info and analysis. This 89th edition of the show kicks off with a deep dive into what the Johansen-Jones trade means for both the players who swapped teams, and the rest of the guys who will be shuffled and shifted around the Columbus and Nashville rosters as a result. In our Outjuries, we look at a 60 point-plus LA King not named Kopitar or Toffoli, a phenom-in-the-making re-entering the Bruins lineup, a recovered goalie who actually stayed that way long enough to make a start this time around, and a fiery Coyote who's getting more help than usual from his teammates. We also look at the impact of injuries to top line fixtures in New Jersey, Calgary and St Louis, and suggest you quickly grab a goalie who could get some games in on a very good team depending on the severity of his teammate's injury. Our Players of Note this week include a couple goalies about whom you can comfortably stop tweeting us questions, a great spot starter in an Eastern Conference crease, and a couple top line producers out West. Finally, the show closes out with a whack of Snoozers, including a couple perennial favourites who have failed to deliver by the midway point, and an apparent false start from a former 30 goal scorer.Players discussed on this episode include Ryan Johansen, Seth Jones, Alexander Wennberg, Mattias Ekholm, Connor Hellebuyck, Louis Domingue, David Pastrnak, Martin Hanzal, Shane Doan, James Reimer, Jonathan Bernier, Jiri Hudler, Joe Colborne, Mike Cammalleri, James Neal, Mike Ribeiro, Ryan Ellis, Adam Henrique, Brian Elliott, Colton Parayko, Lee Stempniak, Kyle Palmieri, Tobias Rieder, Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson, Robin Lehner, Nail Yakupov, Teddy Purcell, Jay Bouwmeester, Jake Allen, Paul Stastny, Linus Ullmark, Chad Johnson, Patrick Sharp, Alex Goligoski, Andrew Ladd, Jason Pominville, Jeff Skinner, Brandon Dubinsky, Tomas Hertl, Al Montoya, Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, and more.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 83 - Nilsson Schmilsson
On the 83rd instalment of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we increase the goalie content to lead off this week's show. 'Tenders are struggling everywhere you look, and Elan and Brian break down the short- and long-term future of starter jobs in Anaheim, Colorado, Arizona, Edmonton and Chicago, including some reserved excitement for a Winnipeg call-up looking to make a strong first impression in his hopefully imminent first NHL start. We then begin our tour around the NHL's hot streaks and line changes by lavishing unexpected praise upon a young Western Conference forward who has taken his share of beatings on the show over the last 13 months-- we tell you what he's doing, why you should be happy about it, and why we might actually be believers this time around. That roundup also includes a member of the family in San Jose, an ever-fluctuation Tampa top-six, minor shuffling in Winnipeg, surprising non-shuffling in Detroit, and obviously Edmonton, where we talk about a new entry into the top six, a recent exit out of it, and then go on to mention Draisaitl's name roughly one hundred and forty two times. The show also covers some likely free agent defencemen who could be good multi-cat and streaming options for the next shot while, including a Ranger, a Capital, a Flyer and kind of a Cane but not really. This episode also features a handful of snoozers peppered throughout-- these are guys who are likely owned in your league, possibly even by you(!), whose worth to their owners needs to be seriously re-evaluated. We tAnd finally, the show caps off with a Lightning Round featuring more players than initially promised, including Washington's scoring leader, a crowded second line in Florida, and a still-got-it scorer in Toronto.Players discussed on this episode include Frederik Andersen, Cory Schneider, Anton Khudobin, Reto Berra, Tanner Pearson, Tyler Toffoli, Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikita Kucherov, Mike Smith, Anders Lindback, Drew Stafford, Nik Ehlers, Teddy Purcell, Nail Yakupov, Leon Draisaitl, Jussi Jokinen, Evgeni Kuznetsov, Brandon Pirri, Shane Gostisbehere, P.A. No. 79 - What the Devil?
While Elan is off doing god knows what in Vegas, Brian takes the reins on this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast.Brian isn't going at it alone, though-- Hockey PDOcast's Dimitri Filipovic steps in to guest host as we fly through this week's most pertinent poolie particulars. We look at an unusually high volume in changes to top lines across the NHL, including those in Columbus, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Chicago, Long Island, Dallas and Florida, as well as the newest opportunities available to some hungry up-and-comers that might just be ready to start producing. We also compare the production of the players on two of the hottest lines in the league-- these guys are not only putting up points, but they're doing it while wearing NHL crests long associated with scoring scarcity and boring hockey (though that reputation may be proving harder to shake for one particular locale).Players discussed on this episode include Nick Bjugstad, Brent Seabrook, Adam Henrique, Pascal Dupuis, James Neal, Lee Stempniak, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Dmitri Jaskin, Jori Lehtera, Mattias Janmark, Mike Cammalleri, Erik Karlsson, Colton Parayko, Duncan Keith, Alex Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Jaden Schwartz, Mike Green, Brendan Smith, Niklas Kronwall, Evander Kane, Matt Moulson, Johan Larsson, Teemu Pulkkinen, Paul Stastny, David Backes, Scotty Upshall, Jonathan Huberdeau, Michael Neuvirth, Steve Mason, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Chris Kunitz, David Perron, Ryan Johansen, Brandon Dubinsky, Radim Vrbata, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ryan Strome, Kyle Okposo, Matthew Nieto, Joel Ward, Viktor Tikhonov, Antti Raanta, Mike Fisher, Mike Ribeiro, James Neal, Trevor Daley, Andrei Markov, Alex Semin, Jeff Skinner, Patrick Sharp, Max Domi, Tobias Rieder, Anthony Duclair, Sergei Bobrovsky, Craig Anderson and more.Be sure to check out Hockey PDOcast on the web, on iTunes, on soundcloud, and on Patreon! And we highly recommend you follow Dimitri on Twitter @DimFilipovic.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 76 - Dano Way
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian share some notable trends they've noticed in their fantasy drafts, and help you begin to build your watchlist and make your first FA acquisitions of the 2015-16 seasons. After picking our jaws up off the floor, we go on to try to make sense of Dano's AHL assignment, and consider a multitude of unexpected opportunities presenting themselves in Edmonton and elsewhere around the league due to early injuries. We also openly wonder about the updated fantasy value of one of last year's most surprising starters, an under-the-radar pick from last year who was understandably abandoned by most of his owners, a young Canuck on somewhat of an island, and a couple new names making impressions on preseason scoresheets.Players discussed on this episode include Marko Dano, Artemi Panarin, Andrew Shaw, Jordan Eberle, Anton Slepyshev, TJ Brodie, Dougie Hamilton, Zach Bogosian, Cody Franson, Andrew Hammond, Craig Anderson, Matt O'Connor, Kyle Baun, Andreas Athanasiou, Bo Horvat, Jori Lehtera, Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisatl, Anton Lander, Nail Yakupov, Brad Richards, Dennis Wideman, Kris Russell, Justin Abdelkader and more.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! No. 70 - Crossing the Line
Every year, some NHL forwards make that esteemed leap from being pretty good point-getters to being all-out point-producing wizards. There's also the flipside: once-reliable top end scorers who find themselves moving in the other direction, to the point that they're suddenly not worth the high pick or keeper protection status that they've enjoyed for years on end.In this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian pick out a handful of highly-regarded forwards that are crossing the line-- in either direction-- that separates the great fantasy producers from the elite. We go deep to give you all the reasons why some players should now be considered amongst the cream of the fantasy crop, and why there are others that you might want to let fall a couple more draft rounds than you normally would.Do you have a suggestion for a player that's crossing the line that we didn't cover on this week's show? No. 48 - Perrau-no :(
The 48th edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey show sees Elan and Brian trying to go into the All Star Break on a positive note. Our headlines kick off with a terrible, horrible, no-good very bad injury to one of the league's most exciting players of the last 2 months, caused by one of the league's least relevant and under-talented regular skaters of the last several years. I guess we're a little upset about it? We also cover a returning d-man in Winnipeg, goalie creases in Nashville, Montreal, and New Jersey, and a couple outjuried scorers for the Predators and Coyotes. We give our takes on the Dubnyk trade, and what it means for several other goalies not even named Dubnyk, as well as the latest batch of forwards making surprise appearanceson top scoring lines and in box scores. In another round of Sustainable or Fleeting, Elan and Brian take on a couple Oilers finding chemistry(?), a faded Star showing flashes of scoring brilliance, the Senators' second-best rookie, and a top line that has finally started playing like one.Players of note this week include a healthy scratch who leads his team in goal-scoring, a winger who consistently transcends his sidekick designation, a record-setting workhorse goalie, and yet another Florida Panther. The show rounds off with our quickest Lightning Round ever, featuring brief updates on a sputtering rookie D, an understated forward finding his game again, and one of  three Zajacs in the Devils organization.Players discussed on this episode include Mathieu Perreault, Devan Dubnyk, Pekka Rinne, Carter Hutton, Marek Mazanec, Toby Enstrom, Evander Kane, James Neal, Martin Hanzal, Travis Zajac, Clarke MacArthur, Carey Price, Cory Schneider, Braden Holtby, Dustin Tokarski, Keith Kinkaid,  Martin Hanzal, Darcy Kuemper, Colin Wilson, David Backes, Mike Fisher, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Matt Beleskey, Sami Vatanen, Bryan Bickell, Patrick Sharp, Riley Sheahan, Alex Steen, Ryan Callahan, Josh Bailey, Nicklas Backstrom, Martin Brodeur, Josh Harding, Mark Stone, Derek Roy, Ales Hemsky, Benoit Pouliot, TJ Oshie, Mikkel Boedker, Kyle Palmieri, Kyle Okposo, Jonathan Huberdeau, and more.If you enjoy the show, please support us by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson. Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live Keeping Karlsson broadcast! You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson).
