No. 251 - Bonino Scrubs
On this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian go deep into all that's happened in the NHL last week, and emerge with the reactions and rationales to guide your fantasy hockey team to another winning week. How do two outjured (and one injured!) Penguins change the depth chart landscape in Pittsburgh? Do we detect an incredibly stubborn starting goalie decision pattern in Edmonton? Could an ever-disappointing New York center finally have an opportunity to deliver on his hands? What does a new goalie signing mean for the ones New Jersey already has? Is there any room for someone new to step up after picture-shifting injuries in Colorado and Tampa Bay? Has a top-six should-be finally arrived in Washington? Also: surprising offensive performances in a couple cities you'd never think to look, the Rangers let down the one guy they never should, some wacky names in the top ten 5v5 scorers, an evaluation of the Canucks' for-realness, and closing the book on players who've let us down one too many times.. maybe. Players discussed on this episode include Alex Galchenyuk, Dominik Simon, Brandon Tanev, Bryan Rust, Patric Hornqvist, Zach Aston-Reese, Mike Smith, Mikko Koskinen, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, James Neal, Oscar Klefbom, Matt Duchene, Calle Jarnkrok, Nick Bonino, Henrik Lundqvist, Alexandar Georgiev, Tony DeAngelo, Ryan Strome, Nate Schmidt, Shea Theodore, David Krejci, Jake DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle, Brandon Montour, Rasmus Ristolainen, Victor Olofsson, Vladimir Tarasenko, Sammy Blais, Robert Thomas, Nathan MacKinnon, Joonas Donskoi, Darcy Kuemper, Phil Kessel, Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Conor Garland, Christian Dvorak, Barrett Hayton, Derek Stepan, Mikhail Sergachev, Kevin Shattenkirk, Micheal Ferland, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Bo Horvat, J.T. No. 246 - Sold! (The KKUPFL Auction Incident, 2...
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, you'll hear the live recording, play-by-play and colour commentary of the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantasy League Championship Tier's Auction Draft! The draft features 14 owners, drafting from 5 different countries on 3 different continents, building their teams to compete for ultimate glory in the most prestigious fantasy hockey league on the planet. Brian is your host for the entire four-hour journey while Elan drafts, but he's got plenty of great company and analysis from a litany of guests and co-hosts along the way: Michael Clifford ( http://www.twitter.com/slimcliffy ) , Associate Editor for Dobber Hockey, is there before the first gavel drops to help set the table and then drop judgments on the opening set of bids. Lewis Ezekiel ( https://www.twitter.com/avgtimeonice ) , of Average Time on Ice ( https://averagetimeonice.wordpress.com/ ) and a pre-season limerick series ( https://twitter.com/avgtimeonice/status/1178027979466842113 ) , comes on next to give his perspective on the draft so far as a previous Tier 1 competitor. Meghan Hall ( https://www.twitter.com/meghanmhall ) , hockey-graphs.com contributor, comes in at 1:14:20 to give her takes on the auction action, and also shares her work on PK scoring trends, goalie pulls, and PPs that need fixing. And Cat Silverman ( https://www.twitter.com/catmsilverman ) , writer for The Athletic and InGoal Magazine, helps close out the show beginning at 3:16:35 with her thoughts on how some of the more confounding goalie timeshare situations around the league might play out-- and a very appropriate amount of Eddie Lack appreciation, too. Brian is also joined occasionally by Elan and the rest of the Tier 1 auction drafters, as well as Victor Nuno ( https://www.twitter.com/victornuno12 ) and Interns Alex and Ryan. Shout-outs also go out to the children of guests who made themselves known and heard in various living rooms across the continent. Please bear in mind that this show was recorded live!, and features all the wonderful snafus and blips you'd expected from an unedited 4 hour broadcast :) Take a look at the auction draft results: http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/auction See Lewis's pre-season limericks: http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/limerick Players discussed on this episode include all 252 players drafted, and maybe a few more for good measure. No. 244 - Marincin Repeat
The Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is pleased to announce that it's officially draft szn, everybody! And that means it's time for Elan and Brian to comb through the entire Yahoo! default draft rankings-- from #1 Connor McDavid to #1009 Kalle Kossila-- and then ruthlessly attack them for the most egregious examples of over- and under-rated players found within. Follow along as we name more players in an episode than we're likely to on any regular season episode. (In an episode where we ranked hockey names, by the way, Kalle Kossila could easily crack the top 100.) (In an episode where we possessed Grays Sports Almanac, by the way, we'd use our knowledge only for good.) Players discussed on this episode include Ben Bishop, Thomas Chabot, Cale Makar, Tukka Rask, Devan Dubnyk, Alex Ovechkin, Johnny Gaudreau, Jack Eichel, Patrik Laine, Max Pacioretty, Jamie Benn, Dylan Larkin, Tyson Barrie, Jacob Trouba, Jonathan Toews, Vincent Trocheck, Oscar Klefbom, Roope Hintz, Anthony Mantha, Shayne Gostisbehere, Alex Edler, Quinn Hughes, Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, Tuukka Rask, P.K. No. 243 - Ice Cream Social
Omg! It's DomL guesting on this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. Some people make player scoring projections, and some people make algorithms that make player scoring projections. Both those kinds of people feature on this episode, as Elan, Brian and Dom build their All Disagreement Teams, featuring the forwards, defensemen and goalies for whom their projections differed the most. All three hash out their projection strategies and resulting predictions to try and understand how they ended up as far apart as they did, and to see if maybe, just maybe, people and algorithms can coexist as one peaceful entity. Until the algorithms become sentient and begin producing their own projections. And their projections are just about the success of other algorithms' projections. And hockey players are replaced by sentient spreadsheets with cute clipart skates in the background. Go check out Dom's projections ( http://www.fantasyhockeyprojections.ca ) , and then also follow him on twitter ( https://twitter.com/domluszczyszyn?lang=en ) and read his fantasy rankings and team previews at The Athletic ( https://theathletic.com/author/dom-luszczyszyn/ ). No. 242 - Special Guest Referees
While Elan and Brian agreed on a lot of player projections when recording the Keeping Karlsson 2019/20 NHL Audio Almanac ( https://keepingkarlsson.selz.com/item/almanac ) , there were some that they ended up pretty far apart on. So who's right and who's wrong? Sure you can say that time will tell, but nobody wants to wait for that! No. 241 - Smörgoåliesbord!! 2019
It's Smörgoåliesbord!! 2019!! Jaaaa!! (or 'Joooo!!' for the Finns). As per ancient Keeping Karlsson tradition, Elan and Brian take a deep pre-pre-season look at the NHL's goalie landscape and get fantasy draft ready by tiering the tendies according to their statistical track records, anticipated workloads and win totals, prospect pedigrees, challengers breathing down their necks, and whatever other data points they can sink their teeth into. Players discussed on this episode include All The Goalies! Like, 70 of them! Check out our goalie tiers at keepingkarlsson.com/goalies ( http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/goalies ). No. 239 - Making a Fantasy League Madness
So here's what he did: we opened the floor to suggestions for how to make the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantasy League ( keepingkarlsson.com/league ) (KKUPFL) even better with one rule change. Then we put them all into a tournament elimination bracket, and promised that the last one standing would be in for Season 5 of the KKUPFL. With the help of friends Jon and Dave, Elan and Brian debate the pros and cons of 32 different fantasy league rule candidates, from the subtle and obvious to the radical and novel. One by one, 31 rule change suggestions fall away, and nearly three hours later, a victor emerges... Follow along with the bracket here. ( https://imgur.com/LOF5djD ) And, when you're done listening*, check out the completed bracket here ( https://imgur.com/v7nZK1V ). No. 231 - Couture Club
Hello, hello, hello! It's another spring series edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! In this show's first half, Elan and Brian are inspired by the happenings of the Stanley Cup Playoffs' second round to discuss the rich irony of the Hurricanes goaltending, the pumpkin-ing of the Islanders goaltending, and the futures of a couple forwards on each team who had standout seasons for reasons both good and bad. They also try to nip any speculation on the St. Louis Blues' PP1 quarterback in the bud, give appropriate praise to one established and one up-and-coming Star, speculate on the potential of a repeat situation in the Bruins' crease next year, and wonder whether a Predators stud is actually that. In the second half, we kick off our Almanac review and self-evaluation, where we look back at our projections to celebrate the hits and understand and learn from the misses. To begin, we go easy on ourselves, looking at the player point projections on which we were furthest apart from other projectors, but ended up being right about. Don't worry... we'll hold ourselves fully accountable for the ones we got wrong in the offseason episodes to come. This episode was prepared with great help from @fantasyref, who sent us all their data on how we did on our projections, as well as how our projections stacked up to all the others. Check out their site and this year's rankings! And finally.. we announced on this episode that the Keeping Karlsson Audio Almanac will be returning for the 2019-20 season! You can pre-order yours at keepingkarlsson.com/almanac. (If you didn't listen to the 2018-19 Almanac and want to check it out, it's now available on a pay-what-you-want basis.) Players discussed on this episode include Petr Mrazek, Curtis McElhinney, Robin Lehner, Jaccob Slavin, Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier, Vince Dunn, Alex Pietrangelo, Tyler Seguin, Roope Hintz, Tuukka Rask, Jaroslav Halak, Filip Forsberg, Andreas Athanasiou, Jakub Vrana, Tom Wilson, Jon Carlson, Nathan MacKinnon, Evgeni Dadonov, Jack Eichel and more.  * * * Like what you hear? They have a look at both sides of the upsets to see which players might be most responsible, and which teams may have deserved better fates. Then, Jade and Lewis of @avgtimeonice don their best red carpet attire to present the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantasy League Year End Awards, aka the KKUPYs, to recognize the biggest splashes and crashes that happened in the KKUPFL this year. The episode wraps with our belated tributes to those who won and lost in the final weeks of the 2018-19 Fantasy Hockey Season. Players discussed on this episode include Mike Smith, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Tyson Barrie, Sam Girard, Philipp Grubauer, Johnny Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Matt Duchene, Sergei Bobrovsky, Artemi Panarin, Cam Atkinson, Jordan Eberle, Robin Lehner, Matt Murray, Evgeni Malkin, Alex DeBrincat, Martin Jones, Patrik Laine, Jordan Binnington, Jake Allen, Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty, Paul Stastny, Shea Theodore and more.  * * * Like what you hear? No. 229 - Hurdy Gurdy Mantha
It's all over but the crying-- tears of championship joy, we hope, as we tie a bow on the 2018-19 Fantasy Hockey season in this new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey podcast! We recount the MVPs and L(east)VPs of your fantasy playoff matchups, and search within the last two weeks for signs of things to come next year. We also try to divine a lesson or two that we can learn about managing our teams through the season and into the playoffs to help us get even better for next year. Then, it's time for some classic experimental KK action, where Elan and Brian share their thoughts and predictions on the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs the only way they know how: a live fantasy draft of their teams for the annual Keeping Karlsson Playoff Patron Box Pool (KKPPBP). They also drop tidbits of fantasy playoff philosophy along the way. Listen and feel the thrill as they recite the names of the players in each box, and then offer their semi-coherent reasoning for liking one more than the rest. Even better, join the pool yourself by becoming a patron (at any level! even $1) of Keeping Karlsson for the duration of the playoffs. And, fear not: Elan and Brian will still be bringing you brand new episodes of Keeping Karlsson all through the playoffs and summer, as they always do! Stick with us for all the hindsight, foresight, and continued analysis of the latest NHL news and notes that'll help you get set to win your pool (again??) next year. Episodes will be released bi-weekly, which means you can expect the next one to land on your device on April 22. No. 225 - Yes We McCann
Have you heard of the latest genre of fantasy hockey podcast? It's called streamo! And this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast is a pioneer of the scene, giving you all the news and analysis you need to get an edge ahead of the biggest weeks of your season. Elan and Brian are joined by Stream Scheme's Davey B, and together the trio talks about how they tweak their strategies for the fantasy playoffs, and which decent and perfectly rosterable players might not cut it with bad schedules next week. They also cover the flipside: players who are normally FA fodder who suddenly look attractive because of some extra games played they can offer you over the first part of the week. Also: what happened to Jimmy Vesey? Do we have a tandem in St. Louis? Does someone really need to score in New Jersey? Can anyone continue scoring in Anaheim? ..and, of course, plenty more. Don't follow Dave on Twitter, but if you get the desire, listen until he end of the show for his handle. Players discussed on this episode include Travis Sanheim, Phil Danault, Justin Williams, Jonathan Drouin, Josh Leivo, Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, Craig Smith, Mikael Granlund, Colin Miller, Mark Stone, Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Dustin Brown, Nazem Kadri, Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen, Jimmy Vesey, Vladislav Namestnikov, Mika Zibanejad, Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Brett Howden, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Josh Anderson, Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac, Jakub Voracek, Travis Konecny, Nolan Patrick, Oskar Lindblom, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Conor Sheary, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, J.T. No. 224 - Enter Sanheim
Hello, and welcome!, to a brand new episode of the million-times-downloaded Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! The road to two million downloads begins now. Will we get there before the end of the season? With the benefit of having a full week of games played since the NHL trade deadline, Elan and Brian share their picks for the players who've seen their values rise the highest and fall the lowest as a result of all the dominoes falling not 7 days ago. The guys review the latest line combos on all affected teams, and pick out situations that they're liking and not liking for both team and player. Your intrepid hosts also discuss the aptitude of a Hurricanes top sixer, the unreliability of forwards in Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, the baffling case of one particular Blue Jacket holding down top power play deployment, the disappearance of a recently emerged blue-liner in Montreal, the quiet triumphs of an under-the-radar Penguin forward and Blues defenseman, and their serious, deep concerns about whether Ottawa or New Jersey will ever score again. Trade deadline-- more like trade aliveline, am I right?? Welcome to the 2019 NHL Trade Deadline edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, where Elan is joined by guest co-host and Dobber Prospects content editor Peter Harling to break down the impacts of all the deals made from a fantasy perspective. No. 222 - Kuch Coma
Good morning-- and if we don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night! Rather than their usual Sunday evening schedule, Elan and Brian go straight from their morning coffee to breaking down the biggest fantasy news and impacts of the week on this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, which results in at least one take that has aged very poorly in the 12 hours between recording and releasing this episode.  Our first take of the show, however, is evergreen, as we look at a Shark swimming towards point-per-game status and some of the supporting cast he's working with. We also argue about whether a contract can ever be considered good even when all signs pointed to it being bad at the moment it was signed. We then talk about broken thumb recovery times, a pair of pretty boring trades unlikely to have a whole lot of fantasy impact, some Devils doing uncharacteristic things, some Avalanche players playing out some uncharacteristically cold strings, the newest lucky guy to be playing with the league's best scorer, a rising figure on the Philadelphia blueline, a surprising closeness between the value of two Hurricanes forwards, and a whole lot more. Players discussed on this episode include Erik Karlsson, Kevin Labanc, Joe Thornton, Joonas Donskoi, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Evander Kane, David Pastrnak, Danton Heinen, Jake DeBrusk, Tuukka Rask, Jaroslav Halak, Kevin Boyle, Ryan Miller, Justin Schultz, Patric Hornqvist, Nico Hischier, Marcus Johansson, Jesper Bratt, Kyle Palmieri, Cory Schneider, Devan Dubnyk, Corey Crawford, Collin Delia, Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli, Cam Talbot, Anthony Stolarz, Brian Elliott, Mikko Koskinen, Carter Hart, Ryan Spooner, Sam Gagner, Oscar Klefbom, Darnell Nurse, Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog, Tyson Barrie, Nikita Kucherov, Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, J.T. Miller, Brandon Pirri, Alex Tuch, Max Pacioretty, Shea Theodore, Colin Miller, Nate Schmidt, David Rittich, Mike Smith, Matthew Tkachuk, Elias Lindholm, Alexandar Georgiev, Travis Sanheim, Devon Toews, Anders Lee, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Nino Niederreiter, Tyler Myers, Reilly Smith, Ryan Murray, Alex Galchenyuk, Jordan Oesterle, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Clayton Keller more. * * * Like what you hear? No. 221 - When You Be Leivo
So many third wheels, you'd think we're talking tricycles on this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. First, Elan and Brian take a look at whether a coaching change Anaheim actually brings either coaching or a change to the fortunes of struggling Ducks who've lost their quack. Then, they sift through the latest news, injuries, outjuries, streaks and slumps in the NHL, highlighting the most important and integral info for the success of your fantasy hockey team. Specifically, the guys produce a laundry list of third wheels-- otherwise unremarkable players who are playing alongside two bona-fide scoring stars-- and rank them in order of desirability for this week and beyond. Elan deploys his weekly team ranking request on the hot-again Montreal forward group, and he also continues to performatively fight the cognitive dissonance caused by Josh Bailey production. Also, we consider the Western Conference playoff picture, what John Tortorella might enjoy dreaming about, Patrik Laine's next contract, the crease sadness in Edmonton and New Jersey, the legitimacy of Canadiens dynasties, and drafting differences over the last two decades.  Players discussed on this episode include Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Rickard Rakell, John Gibson, Oscar Klefbom, Darnell Nurse, Alex Chiasson, Cam Talbot, Mikko Koskinen, Drake Caggiula, Brent Seabrook, Patrick Kane, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Kyle Palmieri, Blake Coleman, Nico Hischier, Andrew Shaw, Jonathan Drouin, Phil Danault, Brendan Gallagher, Max Domi, Tomas Tatar, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Kyle Turris, Alex Edler, Ben Hutton, Troy Stecher, Josh Leivo, Eric Staal, Nick Bjugstad, Bryan Rust, Jared McCann, Danton Heinen, David Pastrnak, Jaroslav Halak, Tuukka Rask, Michael Dal Colle, Anthony Beauvillier, Josh Bailey, Brock Nelson, Ryan Pulock, Jason Pominville, Sam Reinhart, Seth Jones, Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner, Josh Anderson, Patrik Laine, Jack Roslovic, Anders Nisson, Craig Anderson, Aaron Ekblad, Vincent Trocheck, Brian Boyle, Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar, Andreas Johnsson, Zach Hyman, William Nylander and more. * * * Like what you hear? No. 220 - Sundqvist Blip, So Hot, Will Melt You...
Which freshly-traded centreman could find themselves in a top six spot with their new team? How much upside could there possibly be for an outjured 33 year old winger showing steady decline? To which god do once-unstoppable scorers in Vegas and Winnipeg need to pray? Are the Flyers really turning it around? Do we need to apologize to anyone who sold high on a Chicago centreman? Who is Oskar Sundqvist? Elan and Brian mine the data and their guts, and return with their best answers to the above questions and more on the newest episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. Players discussed on this episode include Nick Bjugstad, Derick Brassard, Jared McCann, Mike Hoffman, Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, Dominik Simon, Bryan Rust, Tanner Pearson, Frank Vatrano, Jake Muzzin, Alec Martinez, Jake Gardiner,  Corey Perry, John Gibson, Adam Henrique, Jack Roslovic, Patrik Laine, Shayne Gostisbehere, Travis Konecny,  Oskar Lindblom, Reilly Smith, Brandon Pirri, Jonathan Marchessault, Valentin Zykov, Kevin Hayes, Mika Zibanejad, Mats Zuccarello, Dylan Larkin, Gustav Nyquist, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Dylan Strome, Erik Gustafsson, T.J. No. 219 - Protect Ya Hronek
We don't get no bye weeks over here-- even though everyone else is kicking back, we're at it again for another new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! If you thought there was no NHL news, notes and analysis to discuss during the all star break that could help you get an edge for your fantasy team.. you know us better than that. Elan and Brian begin the week by considering the possibility that regression-- gasp!-- just ain't gonna come to a player who has successfully avoided it for 45-50 games, and that morphs into talk of the Gambler's Fallacy and coin-flipping and the colours of roulette wheels. From there, they review where goalie loyalties might lie in Montreal, Nashville, Colorado and Washington, dig into some sad slumpers in Nashville and Winnipeg, herald some happy hotties in Calgary, Carolina, San Jose, Los Angeles and New York, discuss how Timo Meier can make history, and also share some names of players who were great not so long ago, but then blew it last year, but now are back to doing their thing in 2018-19.  Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Philip Danault, P.K. No. 217 - Mattias Yahoo
On this hot and ready new episode the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian train their attention on a set of players who are far from household names, and likely available options in even some of the deeper leagues out there. They contemplate which of these deep cuts could give your roster an edge as we head towards the stretch run, and which of them are straight up dull. The guys are visited partway through the show by Ryan Bolta, content producer for TSN's That's Hockey!, who shares his strategic and subliminal trade-making tactics ahead of your fantasy league's deadline. You can follow Ryan on twitter @iambolta. Elan and Brian round out the show with a lightning round, looking at whose fortunes may be helped or hurt from injuries and outjuries in Pittsburgh, Vegas, Carolina, Anaheim, and Detroit. Players discussed on this episode include Mattias Ekholm, Filip Forsberg, Pekka Rinne, Juuse Saros, Brandon Tanev, Jacob Trouba Josh Morrissey, Connor Hellebuyck, Laurent Brossoit, Jordan Binnington, Jake Allen, Conor Garland, Nick Schmaltz, Darcy Kuemper, Bobby Ryan, Ryan Dzingel, Brady Tkachuk, Christian Wolanin, J.G. No. 215 - Almanac to the Future
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast, we take advantage of a short holiday-mandated lull in action to shed all kinds of light on how Elan and Brian are faring in their Audio Almanac player projections at the near-halfway point of the 2018-19 NHL season. Elan's on vacation, but Brian is joined by Alma-maniac and KKUPFL tracker extraordinare Marcas to revel/wallow in the most/least accurate pre-season player point projections thus far. The Average Time On Ice crew-- Ben, Jade and Lewis-- also get in on the fun as we all try to figure out what went right, wrong or completely sideways for our crystal ball hits and misses. After that, Brian takes us through some of the bigger news items of the past week from around the league, and Marcas helps take stock of which players are helping their KKUPFL owners the most at this point of the season. Follow Marcas on twitter @MOCallanain. Follow the Average Time On Ice crew @avgtimeonice, and read their analysis and musings over at https://averagetimeonice.wordpress.com. No. 209 - Chytil Mania
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fanasy Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian debate whether Tom Wilson is or isn't a good guy, whether Mike Hoffman's points outweigh his 'locker room' effects, and whether you should gloat on twitter via infinite retweeting when you might not even be right about Max Domi.  But it's chock full of fantasy hockey stuff too, of course! We revise our projections for a couple Flyers forwards (including an early projection concession from Brian), consider the value of Tampa Bay's leading point-getter, figure out what to do with some of those pesky guys we're still waiting on in Anaheim and Vegas, and plenty more. There's also an explanation of how you, too, can bring the #FillyHeat. Shoutout to the @avgtimeonice crew for being the architects of the next big thing. No. 207 - Aberg! Stream Ahead!
Goalie confusion abounds on the newest episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Why are some of the best goalies actually awful so far? Why are some of the oldest 'tenders dodging regression for their 3rd year in a row? How badly should you want an awful goalie on one of the best teams in the league? What #2s are potentially morphing into #1b? We also flip through a bunch of recently outjured players to see if our projections have changed for them since their last NHL action-- including a PPQB and one-time starting goale in the Atlantic, an old soul in San Jose, and a finally returned Blue. Also, Brian mistakes Juuso Riikola's first name for Juusi. Please accept our sincerest apologies. Join our Fanduel Weekly Listener League! Registration opens Tuesday around 10am ET. No. 202 - KKUPFL 2018 Championship Tier Auction...
This episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast features the live recording, play-by-play and colour commentary of the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantasy League Championship Tier's auction draft! The draft features 14 owners, drafting from 6 different countries and on 3 different continents, building their teams to compete for ultimate glory in the most prestigious fantasy hockey league on the planet. Elan and Brian are joined by  co-hosts, Keeping Karlsson patron personalities and KKUPFL veterans Ben B and Jade B, who offer their live takes on all the action and offer up biographical nuggets and horoscopes for the Tier 1 drafters. Please bear in mind that this was recorded live! And so it includes many wonderful hiccups, snafus, bloopers and even a botched start to the draft, because nothing ever goes smoothly when you most need it to. "Elan, can you pause" is repeated often, until we discover that Yahoo only lets you pause a draft 5 times, making bathroom breaks for the drafters an extra strategical consideration and challenge. Why, Yahoo?! You can peek at the draft results at this link: https://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/2831/draftresults.  Also: the Keeping Karlsson NHL 2018-19 Audio Almanac is out now! Elan and Brian slaved over hot mics and keyboards for weeks to put together the world's first audio fantasy hockey guide. It all adds up to a comprehensive and exhaustive 32 chapters, 27+ hours of content, 285 player points projections, 65 goalies tiered, and too many arguments to count to help you win your fantasy pool and just know pretty much everything about every relevant player in the entire NHL. Head to keepingkarlsson.com/almanac to purchase, where you'll also find a link to download the first chapter for free. This is also a good place to mention that Keeping Karlsson patrons get 20% off their Almanac purchase! Players discussed on this episode include all 252 players drafted, and then a few more for good measure. * * * Like what you hear? No. 200 - The Karlsson Also Rises
First things first: Elan and Brian have not traded Karlsson. They are still keeping Karlsson. This podcast remains Keeping Karlsson. Anyone who does that is smart. Anyone who doesn't, particularly in actual real life, and particularly without getting anything of remotely similar value in return, is not.  So anyway, yeah, here's another episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast. It's a pretty good one. It was supposed to be all about Yahoo Average Draft Pick rankings, which we were going to comb through and then pick out some guys who we thought were being picked either too high or were bargains being picked as low as they were. But then this other thing came up. So instead, Brian rants for a bit at the start. Then Elan refocuses on the fantasy fallout of Karlsson to San Jose. Then Elan invokes a bit of a Smörgoåliesbord redux by wanting to tinker amongst tiers based on recent preseason news. Brian is chagrinned by this and wants to refocus on the trade. Then they look at the fallout of Karlsson gone from Ottawa (spoiler: it's not good). Afterwards, the guys do get around to combing Yahoo ADPs as originally planned, highlighting a handful of market inefficiences on both the high and low ends based on fantasy drafting trends to date.
