We're both traveling, but we linked up to discuss a couple news items. Should you have the right to burn your country's flag? Of course, we think you should. What does it mean that so many people that care about "Freedom & Liberty" are in support of punishment for burning a flag? Can Donald Trump care about the real values behind the founding of America, and punish people for protesting their government? 029: Taxation is a Prison. Is it Unfair to Buy ...

What’s up freedom lovers? Thanks once again for stopping by. If this is your first episode I’m going to warn you, we get way down in the weeds in this episode. Today we talked about Corporate Welfare.

We don’t hide the fact that we are big supporters of business, big or small. But what happens when taxpayer money is “given” to certain businesses?

First off, we have to start with taxes. We hate them. We want the tax rate to be around 0% for everyone. But since we have taxes, is it fair for a business to be able to buy their way out of them?

It probably isn’t, but is the business where the problem starts, or is it actually the deeper issue of taxation in itself that we need to fix? If we are Libertarians, can we actually suggest equal tyranny is any better than unevenly dispersed tyranny? Some people want to focus on fixing the tyranny, some people think we can start by making things fair first.

See, even the notes were a mess! We hope you enjoy this deep libertarian episode, and If you do, please share the show with a friend!
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

028: Without Corporations, We All Would Die

It’s been another long 2 weeks since we last spoke and there has been a ton of news! Thanks for coming back to listen to our take on this crazy disaster called American politics.

We started with a local story right here from Nashville, TN. Our very own HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) really stepped in it this time. Apparently they were given 1 million dollars in taxpayer money that had been laid out to support poor areas of town. The click-bait headline reads that they used that 1 million on office furniture. Does everyone assume that they weren’t going to buy office furniture until Nashville gave them the money? Point is, that was a fixed cost for the building. And of course no one cares that they spent 10 million of their own money to rebuild the infrastructure for the area!

Seattle is doing what they do best; removing reasons to ever become productive. They have passed a “per-head” tax on any business that grosses more than 20 million a year. That right, “gross” not “net.” Even if you gross 20 million and your expenses are $19,999,999, you still owe the government their extra money! For each employee you have to pay an additional $300 tax. I say additional because employers already pay taxes for each employee. Nate lays out his dream scenario for Jeff Bezos’ reaction.

Thanks for listening as always, and check back soon for more episodes!

--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

027: Libertarians - "We Care Harder"

Well, it has been awhile and to say we have missed you would be an understatement! Charlie was way south of the border, in Peru. There weren't any walls he had to climb over, either. Nate got married in the Bahamas! Congrats to him and his life-long decision. Jon has been working on his property and was robbed. So, it wasn't a fun time for all of us, just Charlie and Nate.

You may be asking, how do libertarians actually care harder? Well, we explain that for you. Most libertarians are considered heartless, or that we only care about money and big business. Really, we care about you and your quality of life. Labor is a commodity. That means, that you can compete with your labor and skills, and when it is as easy a possible for a business to thrive, the more demand you have for your labor skill.

The idea of the free market is actually truly beautiful. The fact that this system works without any rules or controls is mind boggling. What else in your life works that way? If we just allow this system to thrive, everyone would be richer for it.

This week's Whiskey of the Week: Barrel Whiskey batch 001

Good Morning Liberty

--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

026: The Real Truth About Nashville And Big Tra...

This week we take a closer look at a local issue. On May 1st, Nashville will be voting on a mass transit plan that promises to fix the crippling gridlock that’s plagued its citizens for the last several years. Yes you heard it right, government thinks it’s the answer to fixing gridlock. All they need is more money, and they can for sure fix the problem. Assuming they are the first government in history to come in within the budget and on time, it should only cost about $9 billion and be finished by 2032.

We brought on a very special guest to help us understand the plan in more detail. Hannah Cox from the Beacon Center of Tennessee, joins us to drink whiskey, make sarcastic jokes, and maybe discuss “Let’s Move, Nashville” a little too.

The Beacon Center describes itself as “a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and independent organization dedicated to providing expert empirical research and timely free market solutions to public policy issues in Tennessee.” Hannah does a great job destroying the transit plan, so check out the episode and tell us what you think!
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

025: Congress Finally Declares War... On Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, was grilled this week by Senate and Congressional hearings regarding Facebook's "failure" to not safeguard Cambridge Analytica from selling 87 million user's data to 3rd parties. Somehow, this has become Zuckerberg's obligation and fault. We will say that he has this obligation, but only because of the users of Facebook want their data protected, not because it should be government mandated. The market has already moved against Facebook, including Ellon Musk deleting all of its Facebook accounts. There's not some magic law or fine that will keep this from happening. Hitting Facebook in the pocketbook will keep this from happening and it's already proven to be true before the hearings were even scheduled.

Every time I typed out these show notes, I feel like I'm always having to tell President Trump to stay off of Twitter. It really has been a circus since he has taken office as far as his tweets go. The latest we talk about, being bombing Syria and threatening Russia that they can't shoot down the missiles because they're "smart." He literally put "smart" in quotation marks, like I just did!

The United States has 0 business being involved with Syria, or bombing them, even if it were true that Assad used Chemical Weapons. There is no truth to that, but this war has nothing to do with America's security and Liberty. Our Republic is not being threatened by Assad, so there's no reason for us to go to war. We explain some of the history of Syria as well as our thoughts on this mess.

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook!

Twitter.com/BigFreedomShow

Facebook.com/TheBigFreedomShow

Email us at info@thebigfreedomshow.com
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

024: March For Our Lives...From Spending

In lighter news, in today's show, Stormy Daniels defied her agreement with President Trump and told her story on 60 Minutes. I'm not sure why that's even news, but to each their own, we guess. Apparently, the Donald, or as we like to call him, Tariff Daddy, was reading and talking about himself when he made the cover of Time Magazine, and she took that magazine and spanked him with it. This was 11 years ago. Did anyone think that Trump wasn't going to cheat on his 4th wife. Or 8th wife - I'm not sure; I lost count.

Hundreds of thousands of kids took to the streets in protest, in what they called the "March for our Lives" this past weekend. Where did they come up with that name? How original is that? Oh yeah, there's already a protest called "March for Life." Real clever, teenagers. It must have taken your parents a long time to come up with that one.

Is anyone taking these kids seriously besides the left spun media? Are we really trying to listen to the same teenagers that were eating laundry detergent a mere 3 weeks ago? The Tide Pod eating craze was so popular, it forced Democrats to advocate for laws trying to compel companies not to make laundry detergent so appetizing. Seriously. And we are supposed to listen to them about policy and the natural right to protect yourself?

Your "Republican" President signed a $1.3 Trillion spending plan on Friday. Sounds real conservative. Charlie gets heated in this discussion. In fact, Jon calls him Rush Limbaugh at the end because the rant was fire! How is it, that "conservatives" in power pass the second largest spending bill in United States history? And the President has the gall to say, "I'm never signing another bill like this." Then why did you sign that one!? I'll never understand that logic. Oh, and we will have to make another episode about abortion and Planned Parenthood, but in case you didn't know, yes, it still received it's $500 million in funding from the Federal Government. Can we stop voting in these clowns?

Join the conversation!

Good Morning Liberty

This week's Whiskey of the Week is Bird Dog! 023: Trump Proclaims Death Penalty For Getting ...

Another Libertarian show talking about drugs... Except this one is different! It's time to have a real conversation about drugs. Drugs are bad. Heroine destroys lives. The opioid crisis is real. Trump and his administration's plan is horrible. Here's why.

In a speech, President Trump talked about being tough of drug dealers and drug traffickers. In fact, he called for the death penalty. Now, whatever your feelings are about drugs or this black market business, calling for the death penalty doesn't solve this problem. What is this? 1400 England? Do we have a king shouting, "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD?"

The fact remains, prohibition doesn't work. It never has and it never will. Building walls, locking people up, and instituting a death penalty, will not curb the issue that we see. History proves that prohibition didn't work with alcohol, and the last 50 years proves that the drug war hasn't worked either.

What do we do about the violence, drug overdoses, and the $340 billion dollar black market of illicit drugs? Believe it or not, legalize them! Just because something is legal doesn't mean you have to do it. Plus, don't you own yourself? Can you decide what goes into your body, or does the government get to decide that?

Good Morning Liberty

This week's Whiskey of the Week is Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. 022: Why Profit Isn't Greedy or Evil

Jon made the ultimate libertarian mistake last episode and talked about the Federal Reserve being a for profit corporation like profit was a bad thing. But have no fear! Mistakes allow you to expand on your intent and it brings you the newest episode on why profit is a good thing.

First things first, what is profit? What is money? Well, money is just a representation of value to trade with others. Profit is trading to get excess value to trade for additional things that are needed or wanted. We get in depth on basic economic principles of money and the profit motive.

The profit motive is what drive efficiency an innovation. The greatest things in life have come from people looking for ways to make life better, easier, and more comfortable all due to wanting to make profit.

Milton Friedman said, "It's always the other fellow whose greedy. It's never any of us." Whether or not you are a business owner, everyone tries to make as much money as possible for the least amount of work. When you interview for a job, you want the highest salary possible.

Apple, Uber, Ford, Space X, Facebook and Amazon are just a few companies that have given us examples of how profit has improved everyone's lives. Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, and Ellon Musk are all epitomes of visionaries driven by making a profit.

Listen in and let us know what you think! 021: Why You Should Want The Government To Audi...

I think it goes without saying that we believe in less government intervention here on Good Morning Liberty. So why is it that we should cheer on Rand Paul for wanting to audit the Federal Reserve? What is the Federal Reserve? We answer these questions and much more in this in depth episode. It's important to understand economics and financial institutions, because it's affecting your life more than you think. What if you could purchase 8% more groceries, gas, or clothes in your life? Would that drastically improve your situation?

Dr. Ben Carson, President Trump's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has supposedly lobotomized HUD. Basically, Carson sees a different direction for those that are dependent on HUD. He believes that people have a poverty mindset, and instead of continuing to just house them, we should work to help move them out of poverty. Dr. Carson didn't even fight to not decrease the HUD's budget. This is a good thing, and we explain why.

Follow us on Twitter for Trolling with Nate!

Good Morning Liberty
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support
