Greensky Bluegrass
Community is the key word for today’s show. We had the honor of catching up with Mike, Dave, and Michael of Greensky Bluegrass, a bluegrass-fueled band that’s created a unique community of its own that’s been absolutely thriving for the last two decades. Amy Wright connected with the guys on video call to learn about how Greensky initially got together and built its fanbase, how the band decided which songs to include in its upcoming album Stress Dreams, how Covid-19 forced them to take a break from touring, and how they've grown their sound over the years. Their new album Stress Dreams is due out on January 21st via Thirty Tigers, and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Part of Pantheon Podcasts

The Whitmore Sisters
We're really excited to share a conversation that Amy Wright recently had with sisters Eleanor and Bonnie Whitmore, two highly accomplished singer-songwriters who are releasing their first album together as The Whitmore Sisters. Titled Ghost Stories, the album is inspired by the loss of family, friends, ex-boyfriends and, on the title track, people who have died by police violence. These “ghosts” chose to appear right as Covid became entrenched, when live music evaporated and people were isolated from each other. We dig into how this new record was produced by Chris Masterson, and how, ultimately, Ghost Stories’ cathartic songs embrace the beauty and the experience of living. What came from lock-down and shared experiences; hiking the Grand Canyon at five, playing bars at 15, getting their pilots’ licenses, or just embracing the beauty of living, is an album to take you places and make you feel so alive. Eleanor says she’s always liked Woody Guthrie’s way of looking at it: ‘Music is to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.’” Part of Pantheon Podcasts

Kathy Mattea
Welcome to Insights, everyone. Today, our guest is one of the most acclaimed female country artists of our time, West Virginia native and multi-Grammy award-winner, Kathy Mattea. When chatting with an artist of Kathy’s caliber and who’s been at it as long as she has (the early 80s to be exact), there’s obviously so much ground to cover and so many roads to go down. Today, what we focus on mainly is her new role as host of NPR Music and West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Mountain Stage show. Kathy’s been performing and sometimes co-hosting on the show for over 30 years, so it makes total sense that she would take the reins. She’s also performed on the show more times than any other female artist, second to fellow West Virginia native Tim O'Brien. While West Virginia will always be her “home,” Kathy’s chatting with us today from her house in Nashville, TN, and we’re honored to connect with her. Welcome to Insights, everyone. Today, our guest is West Virginia native and alternative-Americana artist Christian Lopez, a high-energy, whole-hearted performer whose new third studio album, The Other Side, was just released back in October. Lopez says that if he wants his music to last in the world, he has to stay as authentic as possible, and that means not compromising or being boxed in. That also applies to just being a human, he adds. Wherever that leads him, he’s sure that'll be the place that he was meant to be, both musically and mentally. His new album was produced by Robert Adam Stevenson (who's worked with Jeff Beck, Queens Of The Stone-age, and Johnny Depp, to name a few), and we talk all about it in today's show. Karl Wallinger of World Party
We're excited to share our recent conversation with Welsh musician, songwriter, and record producer Karl Wallinger, best known for his band, World Party. We caught up with Karl from the control room of his new studio in Hastings in Southern England, where he's overlooking the sea – the English Channel, to be exact. In the 80s and 90s, Karl released a series of chart-topping albums, his first being the critically lauded Private Revolution. It featured the MTV darling doing nearly everything: singing, writing, producing, and playing most instruments. He escaped the sophomore slump with the release of the majestic Goodbye Jumbo. Rolling Stone said that "Goodbye Jumbo displays an ambition as broad as the emotional range of its music." More genius records followed until 2000, when all came to a crashing halt as Karl fell victim to a brain aneurysm. It took some time, but he picked up the pieces and began writing and recording again. This past year found Karl releasing vinyl reissues of his all the albums in his catalog. We're excited to find out what Karl's next move will be. World Party fans – now's the time so stay tuned. Part of Pantheon Podcasts Learn more about your ad choices. Part of Pantheon Podcasts
