The guys are joined this week by filmmaker/guitarist Steve McClure to discuss the great new rock documentary Hair I Go Again; a film that follows the long journey of two middle aged guys attempting to put their 80's rock band back together, the twists and turns, highs and lows, and challenges they face. Along the way, the guys get an education in the form of advice from numerous 80's rock luminaries including The Killer Dwarfs, Lorraine Lewis (Femme Fatale), Warrant, Jason McMaster, Tesla, Jack Russell, Steve Blaze (Lillian Axe), and Ron Keel. I'm glad I did. I searched hard rock in iTunes and a breakdown of Warrant's Dog Eat Dog with producer Michael Wagener popped up. Being a huge fan of that perfect record I downloaded it to give it a shot. Wagener offered great insight and nuggets I had never known. The two hosts asked GREAT questions and they played most of an album I haven't heard in years. I went back and started picking off things that interested me. What I found was nothing less than brilliant. I had about 2800 CDs at the time. Having been re/introduced to things I'd never heard before or in years I went straight to the web and started buying music as if I had all the money in the world. I don't have all the money in the world. But I don't care as I have about a hundred more CDs as a direct result of this show. Who needs food? Music feeds my soul. These guys conduct great interviews and have been a great resource for hearing old forgotten classics. Just as important is they've introduced me to a lot of great new music. In August of 1992, Warrant were flying high on the success of the mega-huge Cherry Pie album. While the success was nice, the band wanted to go in a tougher direction with their next album. Enlisting super producer Michael Wagener, the band headed into the studio in 1991 to lay down tracks for what would become Dog Eat Dog. Filled with big, crunchy riffs on songs such as Machine Gun, Hole in My Wall, and Inside Out, experiments in darker subject matter on tunes like Bitter Pill and Andy Warhol was Right as well as melodic tunes that could bring the house down such as Let it Rain and Sad Theresa, Dog Eat Dog was poised to be one of the all-time classic rock albums. The only problem was, a scraggly trio from Seattle named Nirvana was taking the world by storm literally days before the release of Dog Eat Dog. The tide shifted overnight and this amazing album never got it's just due....until today.
