Eric Carr Remembered with Gary Corbett Pt1 - Ep265
Former KISS keyboardist and friend of Eric Carr joins the guys this week to celebrate the life of the late drummer on the 25th anniversary of his loss. Gary joined KISS in 1987 for the Crazy Nights tour and remained with the band throughout 1990's Hot in the Shade tour. During this period he developed a close bond with Eric Carr as the two would spend much of their free time entertaining each other on the road. In this long form talk, Gary shares stories from his friendship with Eric including some behind the scenes stories that should be new to many KISS fans. Eric Carr Also, Gary shows Chris and Aaron some home videos from his days in KISS and gets their reactions. Footage viewed includes an impromptu 40th birthday party in Eric's hotel room attended by Eric, Gary, Gene Simmons, Bruce Kulick and then-girlfriend Carrie Stevens. Other candid footage discussed includes a golf outing in Ireland with Paul Stanley and a famous British singer he was dating at the time. The guys also view and discuss some cool live footage from the Monsters of Rock tour of Europe in 1988 as well as shows on the Hot in the Shade tour. This conversation went very long and was a lot of fun thus, the necessity to break it up into parts. Albums Unleashed Skid Row Rachel Bolan Michael ...
Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan and producer Michael Wagener join the guys this week for Albums Unleashed Skid Row. Recorded in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Skid Row was released January 24, 1989 on Atlantic Records. Thanks to strong response to singles such as 'Youth Gone Wild,' '18 and Life,' 'Piece of Me,' and the ballad 'I Remember You,' Skid Row would go on to sell over 5 million copies. This self-titled debut featured the talents of bassist Bolan, drummer Rob Affuso, singer Sebastian Bach, and the twin-guitar assault of Scotti Hill and Dave "The Snake" Sabo. In this nearly two hour discussion, Bolan discusses the early days of Skid Row, including a period pre-Bach that featured vocalist Matt Fallon. Fallon would unfortunately go down in infamy as someone that lost out on stardom not once but twice as he was jettisoned from jobs with Anthrax and Skid Row. Bolan also shares the circumstances that led to Bach's hiring at the young age of 19. Michael Wagener shares his memories of how he was brought on board to produce the album by A&R man Jason Flom and Skid Row manager Doc McGhee. Albums Unleashed Skid Row Skid Row's beginnings were helped in part to Bon Jovi. Guitarist Sabo was childhood friends with Jon Bon Jovi  and the friends had agreed to help each other out if one "made it" before the other. But Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were not going to lend a hand until Skid Row was ready. In this long-form discussion, Bolan shares stories of rounds of songwriting between he and Sabo being critiqued by the two Bon Jovi leaders and scrutinized until they deemed the band ready. Recording the album in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Skid Row and Wagener got down to business right away. In this discussion, Michael shares his memories of the production of 'Skid Row' and how the band, while certainly having a wild side, were all business when it came to their time in the studio. Rachel also remembers the hobbies that he took up to help pass the time in the Midwest during production. Bolan and Wagener detail track by track the songwriting and production of each song on the album. It's an in-depth look behind the scenes of one of the biggest hard rock debut albums of all-time. RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas - Ep259
Soccer legend Alexi Lalas joins the guys this week for a RATT Discussion; breaking down all eight studio albums and discussing the history of the band. RATT was one of the most notable bands to emerge from the burgeoning Sunset Strip era of the early 1980's. From the self-titled EP that earned them a roster spot on Atlantic Records to the breakthrough success of Out of the Cellar, RATT let the world know early and often that they were a force to be reckoned with. Guitarists Robbin Crosby and Warren DeMartini formed a tandem that would write some of hard rock's most memorable riffs. Bobby Blotzer and Juan Croucier combined for a powerful rhythm section. And Stephen Pearcy topped things off with a sleazy look and vocal delivery that made RATT stand out from the pack. RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas In this nearly 2-hour music and discussion talk, Alexi Lalas explains how he first discovered RATT as a youngster in suburban Detroit. In addition to the muscial influence the band had on him, he shares stories of how the band's fashion sense rubbed off on him. It's no doubt a fact that RATT's influence would help inspire Alexi to have one of the most unique looks in the world of sports in the 1990's. Alexi Lalas Your three hosts break down every album including the often-underrated Dancing Undercover as well as Detonator. They also discuss later albums including the 1999 self-titled album that sported a different sound than what most RATT fans were accustomed to. 2010 saw RATT return to form with Infestation; a solid slab of classic-sounding RATT material that the rock world took to immediately. In this long-form episode, Alexi shares his thoughts on these albums as well as the situation concerning Bobby Blotzer's new version of RATT, the legal wrangling that's been taking place over the last year, and the recent Monsters of Rock Cruise performance of the remaining members of RATT. It's a solid block of RATT and Roll. We hope you enjoy RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas and SHARE with a friend! Buy Music! RATT Alexi Lalas More Alexi Lalas! Great interviews and Albums Unleashed on some of my favorites! Chris and Aaron have a good chemistry and while one loves Ugly Kid Joe way to much they both love KISS and that's fine by me!My absolute favorite episode is the episode on DaDa. Any show that does a full episode interviewing the GREAT Dick Wagner about the vastly underrated DaDa album has my glowing adoration. That album is so genius and overlooked and I am so glad that you guys interviewed him before he was gone about this gem!The John Corabi and Toby Wright (Carnival) interviews were great too, both albums are largely overlooked but the s/t Motley album is IMO their best and Carnival is easily in my top 3 KISS albums of all times, so to hear the behind the scenes stories was wonderful! Conversation with Greg Mangus
Singer Greg Mangus joins Chris and Aaron this week to discuss his "almost famous" career in music; one that includes numerous collaborations with notable musicians across multiple genres. Greg is well-known in Nashville music circles for a number of projects that include Thee Rock N Roll Residency, St. James Infirmary, Noise Pollution (AC/DC tribute), and Jimmy the Weed (Thin Lizzy tribute). Greg Mangus In this hour-plus talk, Greg shares some fantastic stories of his early days in the burgeoning Florida rock scene in the 1980's, a string of co-writes with R&B group Cameo, his move to New York city upon which he received a solo artist contract from Polygram Records (and the fallout that occurred thereafter), a left-turn away from rock with a boogie-swing band Set Em Up Joe, and ultimately the move to Nashville and a journey back into rock music. That journey would take him to Thee Rock N Roll Residency and, later, an onstage jam with Cheap Trick's Robin Zander and his endorsement of Greg to be the next singer for AC/DC. In this discussion, Greg shares his memory of what took place after that endorsement and how the door may not be closed on that situation. It's a fun talk filled with lots of great stories. We hope you enjoy Conversation with Greg Mangus and SHARE with a friend! Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda - Ep249
Producer and longtime friend of Ace Frehley, Crazy Joe Renda stops by to share Ace Stories about everyone's favorite spaceman. Joe first came to prominence in KISS fan circles with the novelty song, 'Eugene' released under the moniker of Crazy Joe & The Variable Speed Band. The song would go down in KISSTORY as Ace Frehley's first musical project outside of the band as he's a co-writer and co-producer of the song. Joe also founded and ran North Lake Sound studio in White Plains, NY along with fellow songwriter Chip Taylor (known for ' Wild Thing', 'Rock Soldiers' and 'Angel of the Morning'). Joe is also the producer for prank phone call legends The Jerky Boys. Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda In this long-form conversation, Joe shares some incredible stories of hanging out with Ace Frehley and being around the business of KISS. Stories of the interpersonal relationships between Ace and the other members of the band are shared including the dynamic between the "2 camps" of Simmons and Stanley vs Criss and Frehley. Also included are Joe's recollections of Ace's decision to quit KISS and how Gene Simmons pleaded with Joe to attempt to keep Ace on as a member of the band. Other stories involving a testy meeting between Peter Criss and Eric Carr, loads of stories of Ace truly being a rock  n' roll wild man and so much more including the story of how 'Eugene' was created and how it connects to KISS (not in the way you would expect). It's an hour-plus of jaw dropping stories about Jendell's favorite son. We hope you enjoy Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda and SHARE with a friend!   [embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeZlXJtLhMQ[/embedyt] Buy Music! Konversation with Christopher Williams - Ep247
Accept drummer Christopher Williams stops by this week to discuss his lifelong love affair with the Hottest Band in the Land. In this long-form talk, Williams talks about his discovery of KISS via the MTV Unplugged appearance in 1995. He also talks about the MTV Video Music Awards performance that the reunited band gave under the Brooklyn Bridge as the clincher in his fandom. Christopher is no ordinary KISS fan. In this hour-plus discussion he describes the scenario which led him seek and acquire one of Peter Criss' reunion era drum sets. It's a great story that has many twists and turns. He also relives his first KISS concert and how he had interactions with each band member throughout the set. Christopher Williams Aside from playing with metal legends ACCEPT, Christopher works steadily in numerous other musical endeavors including performances with a local group of musicians known as Blonder Than Hell. This group features bassist ET Brown, Williams, and Thee Rock N' Roll Residency founders (and former guests on this show) Jeremy Asbrock and Phillip Shouse. This KISS tribute is absolutely incredible and is not afraid to deliver the rarities that the official product shies away from. This year, they are performing a KISSMAS in July gig in Nashville, TN at Exit/In. This special show will feature the band in full makeup and costume performing, in their entirety, the Hotter Than Hell and Destroyer albums. It's sure to be a great night so join Chris and Aaron if you can. More info can be found HERE.
