16 in America - Ep382
It stands to reason that many of us come into our "most rocking" phase of life around the age of 16. That would include our favorite rock stars. So, with that in mind, we take a spin through the Billboard charts to see what was possibly influencing some of our favorite rockers; or repelling them.   We touch on members of KISS, Metallica, and many other American rock bands as well as Alice Cooper, Paul Gilbert, Blackie Lawless, and a ton more!   We wrap things up with a look at what was on the charts when Chris & Aaron turned 16.   Be sure to leave what was on the charts when YOU were 16 on the Decibel Geek facebook page in the comments section for this post!   We hope you enjoy 16 in America and SHARE with a friend!   Contact Us!   Rate, Review, and Subscribe in iTunes Join the Facebook Fan Page Follow on Twitter Follow on Instagram E-mail Us Subscribe to our Youtube channel!   Support Us! Conversation with Anthony Esposito - Ep381
Bassist Anthony Esposito joins us this week for an enlightening conversation on his work with three guitar gods. Anthony's musical history makes for a great conversation and, while talking to us, he didn't hold back.   In this episode, Anthony discusses the formation and beginnings of Lynch Mob. Founded by original Dokken guitarist George Lynch, the band wowed music fans with 1990's Wicked Sensation album. The partnership of Anthony, Lynch, drummer Mick Brown and singer Oni Logan resulted in a gem of an album from a very transitional time in music. Anthony talks about his audition for the band, his current thoughts on George, and the odds of a Wicked Sensation lineup reunion in 2020.   Another guitar great that Anthony worked with is Ace Frehley. When Ace was putting together his comeback album 'Anomaly,' he enlisted Anthony to help with song ideas and production. His role grew from there. You won't believe what happened during the recording of this album as well as the reasons for losing his position in the band. It's a 'what could have been' story to the nth degree. Most recently, Anthony was brought on as bassist for Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel. His solid pocket during the tour for the first album helped hold things together and was a welcome addition on last year's 'Patina' album. In this episode Anthony touches on road stories from the RDC tour, recording conditions for the latest album, working with Jake and Max Norman, as well as the odds of Red Dragon Cartel continuing.   We want to thank Anthony Esposito for a fun, candid discussion this week. We hope he'll join us again. The Greatest Show on Earth - Ep380
Andrew Sgambati joins us this week to discuss his creation of The Greatest Show on Earth and we watch it!   In last 50 years, there hasn’t been a more visually exciting band than KISS. Blasting on to the scene in the early 1970’s KISS’ mix of rock, pop and cartoon theatrics made them a household name. By 1977, the people has spoken. KISS was the most popular band in America according to a then recent Gallup Poll.   Led Zeppelin had one. The Who had theirs in 1979. Alice Cooper, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones all had In Concert films that graced the silver screen...but not KISS.   The Greatest Show on Earth takes you back to 1977 and answers the question, what would a 1970’s KISS film look like?   In this episode we watch The Greatest Show on Earth and provide our live commentary. You can check out the movie yourself and watch along with us on Vimeo!   Once we finish the watch-along, Andrew joins us to talk about the basis for creating the movie, the revisions/additions that were made for the Encore edition as well as his plans for another KISS-based movie.   Stream The Greatest Show on Earth on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/359413106   Watch-Along starts at 07:09:00   Director Interview with Andrew Sgambati starts at 01:17:44   Contact Us!   Rate, Review, and Subscribe in iTunes Join the Facebook Fan Page Follow on Twitter Follow on Instagram E-mail Us Subscribe to our Youtube channel! Conversation with a KISS Meme - Ep373
We return this week with one of the most "inside" KISS-related shows we've ever done as we have a Conversation with a KISS Meme. To explain, in 2010 teenager Rich Cser was basking in the discovery of rock and metal music. For fun, he filmed himself singing and doing air guitar to some of his favorite songs and uploaded the videos to Youtube. Of these videos, his choice of KISS' Ready My Body from 1989's 'Hot in the Shade' album was a strange one. Furthermore, his animated air guitar performance, complete with tongue wagging and throwing "the horns" got the attention of the KISS Army. Soon, the video would be the topic of much discussion on many KISS groups and message boards. Not all of the response was positive. Ultimately, it was a conversation starter regardless of good or bad reaction. KISS Meme After 2010, the video of Cser asking if the letters are big enough kind of fell by the wayside; until this year. Popular Youtube host Ralph Viera (aka Dr. Fukk) resurrected the video on his channel for a bit of playful satire, explaining that his girlfriend had left him for Cser before throwing to the original video. Not one to stand idly by, Decibel Geek host Aaron Camaro got to work and actually found Rich Cser on social media. Once explaining to him that his video had gotten quite a reaction, he surprisingly agreed to appear on Decibel Geek. Today we give you Conversation with a KISS Meme. Thanks to Rich Cser for the cool talk and to Ralph Viera for reminding us of the badassery that is the Ready My Body video. WARNING, please have your girlfriends or wives leave the room before playing this episode. Unless you want them to leave you. Alice Cooper Blackout Era - Ep365
We dive deep into a murky period for one of rock's great as we discuss the Alice Cooper Blackout Era! The substance abuse was at its absolute peak in the early 80's for our favorite shock-rocker. Many years of drinking followed by a craving for cocaine had started to destroy Alice from the inside out. Starting in 1980 with the Flush the Fashion era, Alice Cooper abandoned his classic eye makeup for a psychotic Mommie-Dearest image. Combined with his gaunt frame, it still registers as once of his most frightening looks. Aside from the substances, the early 80's were a strangely creative time for Alice. The albums produced during this period yielded some brilliant, yet uneven, moments. Starting with 1980's Flush the Fashion, Alice takes a swing at disco and new wave with certain tracks. 1981's Special Forces is filled with an authoritarian concept while still providing a wink and a nod to androgyny. The cocaine abuse hits mass effect on 1982's Zipper Catches Skin and the songs bear that out despite some great moments. 1983's DaDa rounds out the Blackout Era in grand fashion with an album made purely from the heart. With Warner Brothers all but guaranteeing no promotional push, Cooper reunites with Dick Wagner and producer Bob Ezrin for an album that still sounds otherworldly today. In this episode we share our thoughts on this 4 album run and spin our favorite tracks from each. We hope you enjoy Alice Cooper Blackout Era - Ep365 and SHARE with a friend! Contact Us! Top 5 Ozzy Osbourne Songs 1980-1986 Ep360
This week we focus on the Prince of Darkness as we celebrate our Top 5 Ozzy Osbourne Songs 1980-1986! One year after being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979, Ozzy came back with a vengeance with Blizzard of Ozz. The combination of Osbourne's lyrics and the guitar gymnastics of Randy Rhodes took the rock world by storm. Additionally, bassist Bob Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake rounded out an incredible sonic assault that would rattle the early 80's. Top 5 Ozzy   Not only known for great songs, Ozzy's reputation grew by leaps and bounds in the 1980's. The "Satanic Panic" movement was in full swing and Ozzy was at the top of the list. His crazed antics freaked parents out and, in turn, spawned even crazier rumors about the former Sabbath front man. We touch on our memories of Ozzy during this time as well as our first experiences buying his music. Following Blizzard Ozzy releases three other great albums during this period. Diary of a Madman continued the momentum before tragedy struck with the untimely death of Rhodes in a plane crash. Enlisting former Mickey Ratt guitarist Jake E. Lee, Osbourne soldiered on with stellar material on Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. What are YOUR Top 5 Ozzy Songs from this era? Let us know in the comments and SHARE with a friend!
