New Noize 9 - Ep396
We're back this week to focus on all the news in the rock and metal world with New Noize 9! There's a lot of bleak news outside of the music world these days so we hope to provide a brief escape from it all in this episode. Starting things off, we give our in-depth review of the latest Ozzy Osbourne offering 'Ordinary Man'. Did we love it? Did we hate it? Do we disagree with each other? You'll have to listen to find out. Additionally, we discuss some of the latest developments between the Donnie Vie and Enuff Z'nuff camps. A lot has been put forth publicly by the former singer of our favorite pop rock band and we have our thoughts on the whol situation. Other topics discussed include Twisted Sister becoming licensing kings, updates on the Mick Mars solo album, Riot's singer trying out on The Voice (yes, we're serious), and a Nu-Metal tour that nobody asked for. Finally, we dig into some recent comments from Robb Flynn of Machine Head that didn't sit too well with Aaron Camaro. You'll hear Robb's comments and Aaron's response in this episode. Albums Unleashed - TESLA Psychotic Supper w/Tom...
We're blessed to be joined by Tommy Skeoch this week as he reflects on the Tesla classic 'Psychotic Supper.' Coming on the heels of the successful 'Five Man Acoustical Jam' album, Tesla hit the studio in New York playing with house money. The recent success afforded them free reign to create an album devoid of record company pressure. The band went to work with producers Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero. The resulting album is a sonic platter of greatness. Psychotic Supper sounds as fresh today as it did in 1991. Boasting five successful singles including What You Give, Edison's Medicine, Song and Emotion, and Call It What You Want, Psychotic Supper achieved platinum status.  In this long-form discussion, Tommy Skeoch shares his memories of the making of this great album. Track by track, story by story; you'll get it all. We also get the inside track on Tommy's new band Resist and Bite. Putting the finishing touches on material, the band will soon be shopping for a label. In the meantime, we're giving you a sneak peak with podcast world premier of the song The Myth I'm Livin.' Rock Mag '83 - Ep394
In a completely new experimental series we read and react to a Hit Parader magazine from back in the day with Rock Mag '83! Reaction videos seem to be a big trend these days but, in this case, we're reacting to the printed word. The Rock Mag series has us flipping through the pages of an old school rock magazine and reacting to it. Did these articles age well? Do we agree with the takes given? Are these letters to the editor actually legit? We go through it all, crack wise, and share our opinions of their opinions! Rock Mag '83 Topics from this issue of Hit Parader from 1983 include Eddie Van Halen, KISS, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Charles Atlas, Button Making, B-Movies, Fake Letters, Ridiculous Rush Takes, and much more! We also touch a bit on last week's Universally Rejected episode as well as provide an update on ROCKNPOD 2020! Get your tickets at www.rocknpod.com! Albums Unleashed Alice in Chains Jar of Flies w...
This week Toby Wright joins us for an in-depth discussion on the making of the Alice in Chains classic 'Jar of Flies.' Released on January 25, 1994, through Columbia Records, it is the first EP in music history to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the first week sales exceeding 141,000 copies in the United States. Recorded over the course of a week at the London Bridge Studio in Seattle, it was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 1995; Best Recording Package and Best Hard Rock Performance for "I Stay Away". It has been certified triple-platinum by the RIAA, selling 4 million copies worldwide. Jar of Flies In this long-form talk, Toby recounts his memories of getting the phone call from Jerry Cantrell to book studio time once the band got off tour. Assuring Toby that plenty of material was ready to go, Cantrell revealed later that no material had been written as of day 1 of recording. What happened next can only be described as catching lightning in a bottle (or a jar). Wright and the members of the band hunkered down for 14+ hour days and churned out 7 amazing songs in 7 days. With a 10 day window for mixing, Jar of Flies took form from conception to finished product in just 20 days. Additionally, Toby shares his memories of the creation of the songs as well as production techniques used for creating the timeless sound of Jar of Flies. Also, Toby and his partner Jay give the details of their company, Taummhoms. Taummhoms is a subscription based sleep sound streaming service that can be accessed from any internet connected device. It features unique, on- demand, HIGH DEFINITION sounds that can help you in promoting sleep and revitalization. The options once in the FREE TRIAL section allow you to customize your desired length of time you are wishing to sleep in 30 minute increments. Did Vinnie Shredd the Halls? - Ep387
We're giving you a KISSmas miracle with yet another Vinnie Vincent-themed episode. This time we're covering the recent Merry Metal Christmas show.   Chris and Aaron had lunch with several attendees before the event and got a few of them on mic to share their KISStories and their expectations of what was to come.   You'll hear from Kruisefest promoter Neil Davis, podcaster Mike Brunn and Vincent Larussa, Rosie Luck and her son Aleister and frequent KISSFAQ board poster Rip Rokken.       After the lunch interviews Chris chats with another attendee about his experience at the Merry Metal Christmas event from start to finish.   Today's guest Rick (aka Shecky, Poserboy71 online) has been a VV fan since the 80's, witnessed the Invasion play live in 1988, and is very well versed on Vinnie's playing and gear over the past 30+ years. He's also a trusted friend of Chris and Aaron. With so much speculation on Vinnie's playing ability due to a shroud of secrecy surrounding these events, we'll get Rick's take on what went down at S.I.R.   So, Did Vinnie Shredd the Halls? Top 5 80's Aerosmith Songs - Ep385
This week we dive into a time of great change as we pick our Top 5 80's Aerosmith Songs! To describe the decade of the 80's when it comes to the bad boys from Boston is tough. Perhaps, it's best to lean on the reverse of an old analogy of 'in like a lamb, out like a lion.' Although hugely successful in the early to mid 70's, Aerosmith entered the 80's with a thud. The decade-closing 'Night in the Ruts' did little to gain chart position and resulted in Joe Perry's exit from the group. By 1982, even Brad Whitford had had enough and exited the band early in the sessions for 'Rock in a Hard Place' leaving replacement guitarist Jimmy Crespo to shoulder the load. [caption id="attachment_53302" align="alignright" width="350"] Top 5 80's Aerosmith [/caption] After finally reuniting in 1985, the band issued 'Done with Mirrors' to another tepid response. However, the fuse was lit for the explosion that would take place in 1986 when genres crossed. Upstart rappers Run DMC collaborated with the band for a cover of Walk this Way that took the world by storm. 1987's 'Permanent Vacation' and 1989's 'Pump' would solidify arguably the biggest comeback story in music history.  This week Aaron and Chris each pick their favorite 5 songs from the 80's Aerosmith catalog.
