Even though it was originally recorded in 2019, the band decided that this was the opportune time to release their heroic cover inspired by one of the most relevant rock bands from past and present times. he video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/Bct_S9Dp3dE "Flash/ The Hero" stream/download link: https://linktr.ee/thelonelyones "We recorded Flash in 2019 - a pretty dark year for the four of us on all fronts. Our original musical output reflected that darkness so recording a cartoonishly triumphant, heroic cover song seemed like a good counter-balance. Fast forward to spring 2020 and the impending COVID-19 Stay at Home order. With limited time and help from some fans we got our friends together to film a music video while we were still able. It's July now and, with the future more unclear than ever, it seems like the perfect time to release the most positive song we have.
I hope you enjoy it. Flash/The Hero. A Queen Cover" says the band. Formed in the summer of 2019, The Lonely Ones are a four piece vocal-oriented hard rock band with an ear for melody and a taste for success. Interview: Gary Lee Connor - Screaming Trees
The Screaming Tree's 1992 record coming in at no. 17, guitarist Gary Lee Connor joins Bakko to share insights and stories of this classic album as well as the bands entire career and his relationship with the other members. Screaming Trees were an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington in 1985 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psychedelic elements. The band released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations. Screaming Trees is known as one of the pioneers of grunge along with the Melvins, Mudhoney, U-Men, Skin Yard, Soundgarden, Green River, and Malfunkshun.[citation needed] Screaming Trees rose to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden and was one of the most successful underground music acts of the 1990s. The band achieved one top ten single on the Modern Rock Tracks charts. Screaming Trees were plagued by extended inactivity due to their problems with making a follow up to Dust. This led to their official breakup in 2000. About Whatever, Nevermind Whatever, Nevermind is a 25 part sidecast counting down the 25 Greatest Grunge albums according to Rolling Stone. Whatever, Nevermind No. 17: Screaming Trees - S...
Coming in at number 17 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums list is the 1992 album from Screaming Trees, Sweet Oblivion. Joining Bakko for this episode is co-host of the Shout It Out Loudcast Tom Gigliotti. Tom and Bakko take a deep dive on this standout album from a Seattle Grunge band that is often overlooked. The Screaming Trees one-upped their major-label debut, Uncle Anesthesia, with this solid, vastly underrated effort. Sweet Oblivion's lead single, the jumpy hard rocker "Nearly Lost You," proved itself a highlight on the hugely successful, Seattle-themed Singles soundtrack. But even though the Screaming Trees stacked up quite well against their more famous peers in that particular showcase, the exposure didn't make them stars. Perhaps it was because Sweet Oblivion had been released several months before Singles, and the band thus couldn't build a sense of anticipation for a new album release, the way Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins did for Dirt and Siamese Dream, respectively; nor could they capitalize on the extra publicity that goes along with new releases. For whatever reason, Singles didn't push sales of Sweet Oblivion, as the latter only scraped the lower reaches of the Billboard charts. And that's a shame, because the record is quite good -- the best songs here are easily among the best in their catalog, and the songwriting was their most consistent yet. "Nearly Lost You" is a standout, of course, but "Dollar Bill," "Shadow of the Season," and "Butterfly" are nearly as impressive. Mark Lanegan's raspy voice conveys a weary wistfulness that adds an unexpected dimension to the group's otherwise macho garage-psych grunge. The Trees no longer sound all that punkish, trading in some of their early, noisy fury for a more '70s-indebted hard rock sound, but it's done with a graceful power that proves they were at least the equal of their more famous fellow scenesters. Unfortunately, the four-year hiatus between Sweet Oblivion and its follow-up, Dust, ensured that the band would be forever relegated to cult status. - All Music About Whatever, Nevermind Whatever, Nevermind is a 25 part sidecast counting down the 25 Greatest Grunge albums according to Rolling Stone. Whatever, Nevermind No. 18 Mad Season - Above F...
Coming in at number 18 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums list is the 1995 album from Seattle Supergroup Mad Season, Above. Joining Bakko for this episode is co-host of the Decibel Geek Podcast Aaron Camaro. The two discuss the making of the album, the songs that made up the record and the tragic legacy it holds. Formed in a drug rehab center when Mike McCready checked himself into a Minnesota rehab center. It was there that McCready met local musician John Baker Saunders, and when he returned back to Seattle, called up Layne Staley, who was also at the time attempting to battle problems with substances. With Barrett Martin rounding out the lineup, an undeniable chemistry between all four musicians was discovered at their very first jam session, resulting in bits of music that would eventually become fully realized songs ("Wake Up" and "River of Deceit"). Mad Season was an American rock supergroup[3] formed in 1994 as a side project of members of other bands in the Seattle grunge scene. The band's principal members included guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, lead singer Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, drummer Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees and bassist John Baker Saunders. Mad Season released only one album, Above, in March 1995. Its first single, "River of Deceit", was a radio success, and Above was certified a gold album by the RIAA in June. #Grunge About Whatever, Nevermind Whatever, Nevermind is a 25 part sidecast counting down the 25 Greatest Grunge albums according to Rolling Stone. Interview: Bruce Pavitt-Sub Pop Records Founder
You can’t discuss the recorded history of Grunge without talking to SUB POP records founder Bruce Pavitt. Any list of the Greatest Grunge anything would contain a large chunk of DNA from that label and it’s artists. Bruce shares anecdotes from his entire time with SUB POP and of course what it was like to be at the Epicenter of Rock’s last great scene. Bruce Pavitt was born 1959 in Chicago IL. At the age of nine, he sold Christmas cards door-to-door in the summer heat, earning enough money to buy his first record player, and soon after, his first record (“Revolution” by the Beatles). A lifelong passion for music brought him to the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, in 1979, where he spent time as a DJ at KAOS-FM. Soon after, he started his own zine named SUB POP, which reviewed hard-to-find independent rock recordings. In 1988, along with business partner Jon Poneman, Bruce opened the doors to the SUB POP record label in downtown Seattle. By the early 90′s, SUB POP had released recordings by Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney, and helped initiate a global interest in Seattle area music. Both an entrepreneur and music historian, Bruce has authored two books, Experiencing Nirvana and SUB POP USA, a collection of his early Sub Pop zines and syndicated columns. Recognized as a cultural visionary and Seattle business icon, Bruce has appeared in a number of documentaries, including Sonic Highways and Hype. His footprints have been bronzed and embedded into the Walk of Fame sidewalk at 6th and Pine in Seattle, alongside Jimi Hendrix and Bill Gates. Bruce Pavitt currently lives on Orcas Island, Washington. He is the father of two, and works as Creative Director at 8Stem interactive media. https://brucepavitt.com/ https://www.subpop.com/ About Whatever, Nevermind Whatever, Nevermind is a 25 part sidecast counting down the 25 Greatest Grunge albums according to Rolling Stone. EP 214: Ron Keel Interview
The Metal Cowboy Ron Keel is back baby! This time to discuss the Ron Keel Bands latest release South X South Dakota. From the word go Ron is off discussing his thoughts on Covid-19, being a proud upper Midwest prepper, the struggle privately owned music venues face, whether or not the Eagles should be considered Southern Rock, his duet with Jasmine Cain, the ill-fated Australian Melodic Rock Fest, his move to High Volume Music, the 35th Anniversary of the Keel record The Right To Rock. And believe it or not, MORE! Available now at http://ronkeelshop.com & https://www.highvolmusic.com/store/ Ron Keel Band has released their new album SOUTH X SOUTH DAKOTA, a celebration of southern rock classics featuring the music of Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, Creedence and more, on the HighVolMusic label. During recording sessions for their 2019 original album release FIGHT LIKE A BAND, the band warmed up each day by ripping through some of their favorite southern rock classics; what started as a fun way to loosen up in the studio has now become a powerful musical statement. “At first, we didn’t even know Mike (producer Mike Dresch) was recording,” Ron says. “We were just having fun. But of course, Mike records everything we do, and when I started listening back I realized that we had something special on our hands. “South X South Dakota is a really cool way to pay tribute to those southern rock heroes that provided such a big part of the soundtrack of our lives, while introducing a new generation of fans to these timeless songs.” The album’s first single and video is “Red White & Blue,” originally recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Dealing with the “social distancing” required during the global 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the band members were each filmed at separate iconic locations including Mt. Rushmore. Another featured track is “Don’t Misunderstand Me,” a hard rocking duet which pairs the Metal Cowboy with the powerhouse vocalist Jasmine Cain (2016 Nashville Music Awards “Artist Of The Year”). RKB’s cover of the Outlaws classic “Ghost Riders In The Sky” (produced by Henry Paul) was the debut single and video when they were known as the “Badlands House Band,” and “Homesick” (originally recorded by Atlanta Rhythm Section) was their 2017 summer single. Both of those recordings are included in the new SxSD collection. “For 10 years during the 80’s, Hollywood was home,” Keel reflects. “But I was born in Georgia as the son of a construction worker, and Nashville’s where I got my start as a recording artist. My fans as well as my critics all know that I have one foot on either side of the tracks; there’s a common thread here that ties it all together – toughness and twang as Metal and Country collide on sacred southern ground.”

Interview EP: Jon Levin - Dokken
We are pleased to welcome Dokken guitarist Jon Levin to the Program. Jon is launching his new website jonlevinguitars.com, a subscription guitar tutorial site for players of all levels. They also get into his career with Dokken, Doro and even some gear talk. Guitarist Jon Levin, best known as the longtime (and current) guitarist of the 80s platinum selling heavy metal band Dokken, proudly announces a brand new venture teaching guitarist of all skill levels how to play like a professional. Jon Levin Guitars (www.jonlevinguitars.com) will feature hundreds of videos designed to teach players from beginners to the most seasoned players how to develop their chops, hone their skills, and hopefully attain their dreams as a guitar player on the largest stages around the world. “My professional career began in 1988, when I auditioned for, and got the gig playing with Doro Pesch and “Warlock,” Levin recalled recently. “In 1998, I did my first show with Dokken at the Dallas Starplex and officially joined the band in 2003. Over the past number of years, I would frequently give instructional lessons either via Skype or in the hotel conference rooms before gigs. I always wanted to do it on a grander scale, though I never really came up with a way of doing that until now. Through the years, people would always ask me “why don’t you do a guitar project?” I was sitting on my couch playing guitar for my brother-in-law around Christmas time. He said this is great, why don’t you do this for everyone? So initially, I thought I would just record myself doing some riffs on the couch and put them out for people to view and learn. That then turned into an idea for a website that would be an instructional guitar tutorial for any category of player where I would put riffs up at regular speed, slow speed, and with commentary, in addition to solos I’ve done with Dokken throughout my career. It grew from there, and I decided to then add a gear review section, practice exercises, and overall instructional commentary.” With a few months of recording, development and tweaking, the new site was finally ready to be launched. “The site is www.jonlevinguitars.com and is going to launch with over 100 videos,” Levin states. “I will be adding to it every month that will be focused on a hands-on approach to making the user a better player at any level.” Jon Levin Guitars is a subscription based service, costing $9.99 for a monthly subscription or $99.00 per year. Each month, new riffs and content will be created and posted for players of all skill levels. For more information, please visit www.jonlevinguitars.com.
