Our satellite would break into two equal parts, but the Moon's great gravity would attract them back like a magnet. Everyone around the world would celebrate this good news. But oh no, what if the meteorite would come back?

The Moon is our planet's sole natural satellite and nearest celestial body. The Moon orbits the Earth and it takes about one month to complete the full cycle from New Moon to New Moon. But there's a common misconception that the Moon goes around the Earth. Which isn't true. Why do we believe in this myth and why is it completely wrong? Let's take a look at the phases of the Moon and its rotation cycle. We'll see that the Moon is not going around the Earth - it is traveling along with the Earth - around the Sun.
