How to unsubscribe from toxic thinking with Har...

2020 has definitely been one for the books, and it isn’t even over yet. Amid a global pandemic, so much is uncertain and unknown. What will the future look like? What will tomorrow look like? What will the world be like after all of this is over? It is not surprising that so many people are struggling with anxiety, grief, depression, anger and loneliness—we have all experienced low moments over the past few months. Thankfully, there is a way we can calm the mental chaos we are experiencing and take back control. In this week’s podcast and blog, I speak with Harvard-trained psychologist and health coach Dr. Sasha Heinz about why we struggle to get a handle on our anxiety, how to go from knowing what to do to doing it, how we can unsubscribe from our thoughts, how to handle pandemic fears and frustrations and what we can do now to create our own future, even when facing the unknown.

Read the show blog here: https://drleaf.com/blogs/news/title

For more info on Dr. Sasha see here: https://drsashaheinz.com

**Special offers from this episode's sponsor:

-NOOM (the best healthy habit company!): For your NOOM special offer see: https://noom.com/DRLEAF

Podcast Highlights

2:00 The intention-action gap, and how to overcome it

7:18 How to get unstuck & control the mental chaos

24:11 The different components of wellbeing

27:30 Why we need to think about our thinking

32:50 How to deal with grief and negative emotions

36:40 The difference between clean pain and dirty pain

40:35 How to unsubscribe from your own thoughts

Additional resources:

-Sign up to join my free text program and receive mental health care tips and strategies, exclusive offers and more! Managing Your Mental Health When Living with a ...

On this podcast, I had the privilege of interviewing Keto Krisp founder and successful businessman Adam Bremen. This was definitely one of my favorite interviews, with the creator of my favorite keto snack bar! We discuss everything from finding the joy in life, how he overcame his disability, how keto changed his life and inspired him to start his company, why having fun in life and in business is so important, how to be a successful entrepreneur, his desire to celebrate and empower others to take charge of their health, how to build mental resilience when times are tough, what to say to someone who is going through a really tough time, and the power of learning to see the good in every situation.

Adam learnt early on that life is about what you can do, not what you can’t do. Diagnosed at the age of 2 with cerebral palsy, he has learnt to overcome numerous odds, including life in a wheelchair. Thankfully, he grew up with a loving and supportive family who encouraged him to never put limits on himself, and to always find ways to celebrate his life and the lives of the people around him.

**SPECIAL OFFERS FROM THIS WEEK'S SPONSORS**

-HIYA HEALTH (the best children's multivitamin!): Receive 50% off your first order. The Dangers of Toxic Positivity, Signs of Gasli...

We have all heard the phrase “look on the bright side” at least once in our lives. And yes, sometimes we do need those little reminders to be positive: “stop and smell the roses”, “things will get better” and the “remember, the glass is half full”. But what happens when these reminders become toxic? What happens when positivity shuts down, rather than opens up, the path to healing? In this podcast, I talk with licensed marriage and family therapist Whitney Hawkins Goodman about the dangers of toxic positivity, the relationship between toxic positivity and gaslighting, how to be truly empathetic, the power of learning how to listen and how to comfort someone who is grieving.

Read the show blog here: https://drleaf.com/blogs/news/the-dangers-of-toxic-positivity-signs-of-gaslighting-tips-on-what-not-to-say-to-someone-who-is-grieving-with-therapist-whitney-hawkins-goodman

For more info on Whitney visit her website: www.theccc.miami

Her online store: https://sitwithwhit.mykajabi.com/store

Whitney's Instagram: @sitwithwhit

Whitney's Facebook: @sitwithwhitney

**Special offers from this episode's sponsor:

SEED (the best company for a healthy gut!): Visit https://seed.com and use code MENTALMESS for 15% off your first month of the Daily Synbiotic

Podcast Highlights

1:42 Why Whitney thinks it is important to talk about our emotions and mental health

2:40 What is toxic positivity?

13:30 How can you train yourself to become more aware of your intentions?

14:55 What is the difference between shame and guilt, and what do they have to do with toxic positivity?

17:31 What is gaslighting?

19:11 Gaslighting and racism

21:34 How to help someone who is grieving

Additional resources:

-Sign up to join my free text program and receive mental health care tips and strategies, exclusive offers and more! There is so many issues we must deal with, from loneliness during a global pandemic, to addictive behaviours, codependency, worrying about the future and dealing with negative emotions—the list seems endless. Thankfully, we can face whatever life throws our way, as I discuss in this podcast with therapist Amanda White. It is possible to unlearn addiction, to get to the root of negative behaviors like eating disorders and codependency, to stop the worry cycle, to face and deal with our emotions and to heal our minds and lives. We don’t have to stay “stuck” in a bad place; we don’t have to be defined by what happens to us! Amanda also shares some great tips on how to deal with guilt and shame, the difference between the two, and how to deal with loneliness.

For more info on Amanda visit: https://therapyforwomencenter.com

And follow her on instagram: @therapyforwoman

Podcast Highlights

1:45 Why we need to talk about the overlap between addiction and eating disorders

2:48 How Amanda overcame her eating disorder

5:42 Addiction as a learned behavior

8:58 What it the recovery time for addiction?

10:44 What is codependency?

21:00 What is the difference between shame and guilt?

32:22 Dealing with loneliness

47:30 What is the difference between worrying and planning?

49:30 What is the difference between processing emotions and overthinking?

Read the show blog here: https://drleaf.com/blogs/news/overcoming-codependency-addiction-guilt-and-shame-with-therapist-amanda-white

Additional resources:

-Sign up to join my free text program and receive mental health care tips and strategies, exclusive offers and more! Can Micro-Dosing Psychedelics Help Improve Ment...

In this podcast, I speak with Paul Austin from The ThirdWave (a company that focuses on providing resources for safe, structured, and responsible psychedelic use) about the relationship between psychedelics and mental health, the different types of psychedelics and what they can be used for, how psychedelics can help overcome trauma and addiction, and how the responsible use of psychedelics can help us become more integrated mentally and physically and connected to the world around us. We also discuss how psychedelics can help with neuroplasticity, impact epigenetics, and how to safely micro-dose.

This information is intended for educational purposes only. I understand that in many areas of the world the use of different kinds of psychedelics are prohibited or illegal; as a company we do not promote illegal activity. I do, however, believe that it is important to have this conversation, and think of ways we can help everyone improve their mental health and find satisfaction and purpose. This is why I strongly believe we need to reduce the stigma around talking about psychedelics and researching safe and responsible ways we can use them to help people manage their minds and live their best lives.

For more information on Paul and The Thirdwave (tons of helpful resources and articles!) visit: http://paulaustin.co and https://thethirdwave.co

More helpful resources: https://maps.org

***Special offer from this week's podcast sponsors***

-Liquid I.V Electrolytes (my favorite electrolytes!): Get 25% off with code DRLEAF at checkout https://liquid-iv.com

-ThirdLove Bras (the most comfortable bras!!): To get 15% off your ThirdLove Bra order see: https://thirdlove.com/drleaf

Podcast Highlights

1:57 What is Third Wave?

8:49 What are psychedelics?

20:00 Why what comes after the psychedelic experience is so important

23:40 How do psychedelics compare to other forms of therapy?

28:46 The 3 main elements of a healthy psychedelic experience

34:18 The power of microdosing

38:50 The different types of psychedelics and how they can help with mental health

50:00 Are psychedelics addictive?

1:00:20 Epigenetics and psychedelics

1:09:38 Is ketamine safe?

Read the show blog here: https://drleaf.com/blogs/news/how-psychedelics-can-help-improve-mental-brain-and-physical-health-how-to-safely-micro-dose-common-psychedelic-myths-debunked-with-paul-austin-founder-of-thirdwave

Sign up to join my free text program and receive mental health care tips and strategies, exclusive offers and more! Yet the nature of human sensitivity is often misunderstood, especially when it comes to recognizing and dealing with highly sensitive people. As I discuss in this podcast with psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Elaine Aron, a significant percentage of the population (regardless of gender, race or nationality) are highly sensitive individuals, although many of them don’t know they are highly sensitive, or what that means for the way they interact with others, express their emotions, deal with disapproval or parent their children. High Functioning Anxiety: Signs, Symptoms, and ...

We all know those people that are always on the go: they never seem to rest, they are always busy doing something and they seem to accomplish so much. Perhaps you are one of those people! But did you know that this could also be a sign of high-functioning anxiety? In this podcast, I speak to therapist and licensed counselor Nancy Jane Smith about the signs and symptoms of high-functioning anxiety and how to overcome it, as well as how to deal with perfectionism, people-pleasing and avoid burnout.

High functioning anxiety is a form of anxiety that you won’t get diagnosed with, but it is similar to generalized anxiety, and also involves gastro symptoms, headaches, panic attacks, racing thoughts and so on. It is essentially a way of coping that pushes you harder and faster, which often leads to perfectionism, people-pleasing and burnout. On the outside everything may look great, but, on the inside, everything is falling apart, which is why high functioning anxiety is so hard to recognize. In fact, a lot of people aren’t aware that you don’t have to live with this kind of “hustle, hustle, hustle” mentality this because they do not share how they feel with the people in their lives.

Special offer from this week's sponsor:

-Thrive Market: Try Thrive Market today and become a member risk-free!
