The boys are BACK after a couple week hiatus from the Roundup, with special guest Gaspar Perricone. Jonathan Henshaw of Edinburgh, Scotland is a UK outdoorsman who until recently never really had the opportunity to hunt due to the tremendous obstacles, from land access to firearm access, facing UK conservationists who want to go afield. He then went for his first hunt, with former guest Arthur Petherbridge of the Wild Order no less, and talks with Robbie about his transition from non hunter to hunter, and all the emotion that goes along with it.

John Minadakis, the owner of the Maryland Jimmy’s Seafood joins Robbie to talk about their years-long feud with PETA over their world famous crabs. John and Robbie discuss the similarity in challenges they receive to those of others in the sustainable use space - from fishermen to hunters to farmers to leather goods purveyors and more the idea of sustainable wise use of resources is coming more and more under attack.

Former vegetarian Arthur Petherbridge, decided once he bcame a hunter that he needed to do what was necessary to help others do the same thing he did. Arthur who founded UK-based hunting community ‘The Wild Order’, joins Robbie to discuss the UK’s unorthodox hunting culture. From difficulty of sourcing firearms to the challenge of finding permission to hunt in a country without public lands, and how all that contributed to the birth of The Wild Order.

Roy Sloan, Executive Director of the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation, joins Robbie to talk about the Foundation’s work managing both the New Zealand native environment but also managing the nation’s deer herd for quality. New Zealand’s unique hybrid herd (they have both elk and red deer DNA) deep in the south of New Zealand began with a gift of 18 elk by none other than Teddy Roosevelt in 1905.

Former Hunter Nation Executive Director (and incoming ED of the international Order of T Roosevelt) Luke Hilgemann joins the Blood Origins podcast this week to talk more about his role, his organization, and their shifting projects and focus.

Confederated Hunting Associations of South Africa (CHASA) CEO Stephen Palos joins the Blood Origins podcast to talk shop. The ‘last domino’ of all the hunting dominoes in South Africa, he represents the recreational hunter’s interests in the nation - you know them, the guys who are just trying to put some meat and biltong in their freezer. Robbie and Stephen catch up about his history in the hunting industry, the emergence of the new ‘Sustainable Use Coalition of South Africa (SUCO-SA)’ that just announced themselves at CITES in Panama, and the future of hunting in South Africa. 

Adri Kitshoff-Botha is the newly-minted CEO of Custodians Professional Hunting Conservation of South Africa. This new organization (they’re only 5 years young!) broke away from the Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa at the founding and have slowly been building their mandate since. Adri joins Robbie to answer the tough questions about where what Custodians is, where they’re going, and discusses what she was hired to do and how the mission of Custodians is evolving to communicate, collaborate and and coordinate with hunting organizations all around the world.
