Special Episode: The consequences of ousting Sp...
<p>Friends, we've never done an "emergency pod" before but thought yesterday's big news was worth it. In Congress for the first time ever in US history, the Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was removed from the position. Rep. Matt Gaetz called for the motion to vacate, and in a vote 216-210, all Democrats and 8 Republicans voted McCarthy out of the position. The House cannot be in session without a speaker and will meet next week to try and vote in a new speaker. </p>
<p>We thought this news has great consequences electorally, for Congress, for the economy, and for future bipartisanship and so we wanted to have the conversation with you.</p>

<p>Next, Pew Research has new data on American attitudes towards politics. Across the board, Americans' attitudes towards government, the two parties, and 2024 are increasingly. Most feel exhausted or angry towards US politics. We discuss the implications of these numbers in light of a different new study from Harvard on the pervasiveness of zero-sum thinking in economics and politics.</p>
