Is the Liberal deficit larger than we thought? ...
Remember that budget and more specifically that deficit the Liberals were going to be running? Yeah you could add a few more billion dollars to that. How is something as large as this missed? Could it really just be some sort of misinterpretation by some accountants? Guest: Steve Paikin, Host of "The Agenda with Steve Paikin"  on TVO - Our children are a being taught a style of math that few of us, if any, are familiar with. How can it be that we're expected to help our kids at home with their homework when it's something that we don't even understand ourselves? What options are out there for parents to understand what's being taught in school? Guest: Bill Torrens, HWDSB Superintendent of Program - If you had 12-year-old that bought his own trip to Bali and booked a hotel room at a three star resort with his mom's credit card after an argument, a person who was charged $500 over a forgotten apple slice and a jail guard who's going to jail for 50 years for stealing $1.5 million worth of fajitas, which one would you choose as your story of the day? Ben has his story of the day, what's yours? - Tonight the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays and TFC are all playing at about the same time. This makes some people drool while others scream in protest over why athletes get paid such large amounts of money. There is often debate between whether sports rule or suck but what's the alternative to sport? What is the opposite of sport?

Can vehicular tragedies like Toronto be prevent...
Everyone knows what happened in Toronto and how it happened, a rental van caused massed casualties. This weapon of choice brings about a lot of questions but the biggest one is how can we prevent this from happening again? This makes for a huge challenge given the availability of rental vehicles. Guest: Candyce Kalshall, Fellow at the Center for Security and Intelligence Studies at The University of Buckingham, Specialist in Conflict and Global Affairs and author of: Armed Forces and Government as well as Mutiny or Revolution? - To Kill A Mockingbird is a book and movie that you have probably read and/or watched and for the first time ever, the Monroe County Museum, a museum about To Kill a Mockingbird and its writing, is sending a travelling exhibit and it's coming to the Stratford Perth Museum. How did this cooperation happen and what will this travelling exhibit put on display? Guest: John Kastner, General Manager of the Stratford Perth Museum - There are some pretty unlucky people in this world but there's always something that happens that tops all other stories. Could this guy's numerous 'encounters' with animals possibly make him the unluckiest man in the world? - Yesterday's events cut The Scott Radley Show short but fear not! Don Robertson of the Dundas Real McCoys is here to continue yesterday's conversations and start some new ones. The Bulldogs and Frontenacs are probably glad they don't have to compete with the Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays AND TFC all who have games tomorrow night. With all these teams playing, you can be sure there are some opinions and predictions that need some airing. Guest: Don Robertson, Head Coach of the Dundas Real McCoys and Broker of Record at Com/Choice Realty

Does a new arena on the escarpment make sense? ...
Suddenly the talk of a new arena on the mountain has life. Even the mayor has said it's an idea he wouldn't immediately shut down. So why does such a thing in the Limeridge Mall area make sense? And is there any appetite at all for public money to be spent on this or would it have to be 100 per cent privately funded? Guest: Donna Skelly, Ward 7 Councillor - Yesterday we chatted about a poll showing a shockingly low number of American millenials know anything about the Holocaust or what happened in World War II. Makes you wonder, what is being taught in history class these days, especially when we're tearing down statues and renaming buildings because our heroes are now villains, our villains now heroes and nothing is black and white. Guest: Jan Haskings-Winner, past president of the Ontario History and Social Sciences Teachers' Association - There's a girl in Georgia that is an aspiring funeral director so she decided to make her prom entrances particularly special. As if a hearse driving her to prom wasn't weird enough, she was also brought into the dance hall in a casket! What would your reaction be if you were her prom date? - Nazem Kadri got three games for a cheap shot on a player's head. Today a Winnipeg Jets defenceman got just one game for a vicious crosscheck to another player's head/neck. Does the NHL have a consistency problem when it comes to discipline? Most seem to think so and they've thought this for a long time. Guest: Bubba O'Neil, Sports Anchor at CHCH

A new poll of American millennials has found most don't know much about the Holocaust, Auschwitz or how many people were exterminated in World War II. In fact, 22 per cent had never even heard of the Holocaust! What's that about those who forget history... Guest: Gustavo Rymberg, CEO of the Hamilton Jewish Federation - Airlines are now considering adding standing seats to save space, cram more people into planes and save the customer a few bucks. Is this really the future of air travel? Does anyone really want to fly like this? Guest: Brett Snyder, Author of The Cranky Flier blog - Ben has a line-up full of goofballs and weird scenarios ahead of him. Scott brings up three stories and his producer, Ben, crowns one of them his story of the day. Which one will he choose? Which one is your story of the day? - Almost all of TSN and Sportsnet's channels are showing the same thing at the same time. Five channels all mirroring each other. Is this what was intended when the CRTC expanded their licence and let them go big? Why would the OHL playoffs not be on one, the Stanley Cup playoffs on one, baseball on one, and some other things be on the others? Guest: Chris Zelkovich, Sports Media Writer and Critic

Can we be seeing housing in areas zoned for mal...
There are some signs that are showing that fewer and fewer people are going out and shopping at malls. There's also a search for a place to put subsidized housing so could the answer to both of these situations be moving some housing onto shopping mall properties or combining the two? Guest: Fred Eisenberger, Mayor of Hamilton - Tim Hortons has fallen on some bad times but can moving their head office to Toronto help change their misfortune? Will this help Tim Hortons or do they need to change something else with their brand? Guest: Marvin Ryder, Professor of Marketing at the DeGroote School of Business - We often hear about the escapades of idiots in zoos and things don't often go well for those people. We also see signs that say don't do this or don't do that which obviously means that someone has tried to do exactly that before but what happened to make the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco have a sign that says, "DO NOT GIVE THE BISON PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCES"? Did someone seriously try and give a drug like ecstasy to Buffalos? What would a Buffalo strung out on ecstasy even look like? - The Hamilton Bulldogs are powering forward in the playoffs and are playing the Kingston Frontenacs next in the OHL semi-finals. The last time the Bulldogs were here they lost which prompts the question, will they lose again or can we see them going all the way?  Guest: Michael Andlauer, Owner of the Hamilton Bulldogs

What's happened to Tim Hortons to make its reputation drop so significantly in the eyes of Canadians? Guest: Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, professor and researcher in food distribution and policy, Dean of the Rowe School of Business at Dalhousie University - Scott and Don Robertson of the Dundas Real McCoy's sit down to talk sports, including the Boston Marathon, the Toronto Maple Leafs' performance in the NHL playoffs (which hasn't been stellar so far), and the extravagance of the Vegas Golden Knights' pre-game show before the first game of the playoffs.

Gas is going up and up and up! It isn't showing any signs of going down any time soon but what we aren't seeing much of is why it's still going up. Where's the ceiling on this and why is gas going up at all? Guest: Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst at GasBuddy - If you were to be asked what a Hamiltonian looks like, what would pop into your mind? It's a fun challenge to think about that someone actually looked into and made a 5 part series about. What prompts someone to do this and what's the outcome, is it what you would expect? Guest: Steve Buist, Reporter at The Hamilton Spectator - There has been some major news within the Hamilton Tiger-Cats! The vice-president of football operations is now the former vice-president of football operations! You heard that right, Kent Austin has stepped away from his former role and is now taking on a consultant role. What does that mean? Let's ask someone who knows! Guest: Rick Zamperin, Sports Director at Global News Radio 900 CHML - The Boston Marathon is something we've all heard of for some reason or another. Now there's another reason that you may have heard of it because a local police officer will be running in it. He went from being within an inch of dying to running in the Boston Marathon. How does someone go from one side of this spectrum all the way to the other? Guest: Neal Ridley, Niagara Regional Police Officer and Boston Marathon Competitor

Is city council even thinking now? Should Swast...
There has been a big trend of Hamiltonians' civil engagement getting lower and lower. City council wants to change this but their solution is nothing short of disappointing. 9am meetings suck enough on their own so how could putting one on a Friday morning make people want to show up? They have work! - The swastika's meaning has had its real meaning stolen and rewritten by the Nazis. This new meaning that the swastika has taken on has sparked a conversation as to whether or not Swastika Trail should have its name changed. What do you think? Even though the street was named before the Nazis existed, should they change it? Guest: Randy Gazer, Swastika Trail Resident - When the Detroit zoo is giving away 5lbs of animal poop to its first 1000 visitors, some guy nearly dies from eating a whole Carolina Reaper and a guy donates his 3 toes lost to frostbite to make drinks with, that can only mean one thing, Ben's Story of the Day! Which one of these is your story of the day? - There seems to be a new superhero movie coming out every month but what ever happened to comic books? More specifically, what happened to those that make comic books? Is business booming because of these movies or is the opposite happening? What's it like being an artist for Marvel? Is BC allowed to prevent the Trans Mountain Pip...
It's no secret that there is a pipeline that's supposed to be built in western Canada but there's one catch, the BC government isn't having any of it. Despite a federal government decision being made, a province is preventing it from moving forward. Surely this is against some law or there's something that Ottawa can do about this, right? Guest: Brian-Lee Crowley, Managing Director of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute - A lady in Russia needed some surgery done but the doctor poisoned her by accident which ultimately killed her! Even though this didn't happen in Canada, how can something like this even happen to begin with? What's the likelihood of something like this happening in Hamilton?  Guest: Anne Marie MacDonald, Surgical Program Director at St. Joseph's Healthcare - There are many jobs out there that people simply don't want to do. Being a lifeguard is an arguably desirable position but what if there was a small catch - it's at a nudist resort? If this does interest you, there's a place that needs one and it could be you! - Nearly everyone has at least a small interest in serial killers. They capture our imaginations and make for some pretty neat stories despite the gruesome and horrific acts they commit. No one is more intrigued by them than a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto who also happens to be a serial killer researcher. She joined Scott in studio for an in depth look at what can make a serial killer tick and how she came to fall in love with it all. The tragic crash involving the Humboldt Broncos...
The nation is reeling after the tragic crash involving a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team in Saskatchewan. A few years ago, Bill McDougall played in an Allan Cup for the Dundas Real McCoys. Not long before that, he set an AHL playoff scoring record with 52 points in 16 games. And only a few years prior to that, he scored 187 points in 61 games for the Humboldt Broncos. During that time, he traveled that stretch of highway on a team bus dozens of times. Guest: Bill McDougall - It appears something is finally being done on the area rating free money festival of spending. But should rules be put in place or should it just be removed and the cash applied equally across the city? Guest: Donna Skelly, councillor for Ward 7 - Scott and Don Robertson of the Dundas Real McCoys talk sports during the second hour of the show, as they do every Monday. This week, Scott and Don discuss the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, but lighten up during the second half for a chat about the Masters.

The housing market was doing amazingly for a while but that's not the case anymore. The days of selling your house for a large amount of many has come and gone but what does that mean for those trying to buy a home? Where is the market going to go from here? Guest: Hilliard MacBeth, Author of "When the Bubble Bursts: Surviving the Canadian Real Estate Crash" - Nearly everything about you can probably be found on the internet. Whether you know it or not, there are companies that track everything you search for, buy and even the places you go, how long it takes you to get there and how long you're there for. How are they allowed to do this? Shouldn't there be a law against this? Guest: Allen Mendelsohn, Internet Lawyer - Bachelor parties are infamous for getting out of hand for many reasons. Sometimes it's stupidity and sometimes it's alcohol but whatever the reason is, some guys found themselves at a micro-brewery in Zimbabwe that happened to have a pond out back. What could be in the water and how did one of the guys manage to lose an arm in there? - The Stanley Cup is easily the most coveted sports trophy across Canada. Just about anyone can identify it and regardless of age, everyone is happy to see the cup. Whenever you see the Stanley Cup, there's always someone close by keeping an eye on it. So what's it like being the guy that everyone's always happy to see, the Keeper of the Cup? Guest: Phil Pritchard, The Hockey Hall of Fame's Keeper of the Cup

The president of Concerned Doctors of Ontario says "gross mismanagement and negligence" by the Wynne government has left our medical system is disarray. How can it be fixed? Or perhaps more accurately, how much will it cost to fix it? Guest: Dr. Kulvinder Gill, President of Concerned Doctors of Ontario - There has been lots of terrific discussion on CHML today about the LRT in the wake of Doug Ford's comments. How will this affect the provincial and then the municipal elections now as people (presumably) strategically vote for those who will take their side in this ongoing saga? Guest: Brad Clark, Principal of Maple Leaf Strategies - Going for your driving exam is an incredibly stressful process but more often than not we end up passing the exam and go on with our lives. Unfortunately for some, not everyone is great at driving and it's sometimes reflected in their exam, especially if you're like this person from the US. He or she didn't get too far before failing their test, can you guess what happened? - The city has a school under construction right beside Tim Hortons Field and has asked for suggestions for a name. Bubba pushed the idea of Bernie Custis after the trailblazing football-star-turned-coach-turned-educator. It was a brilliant suggestion. We discuss why. And argue why the school board should NOT name it after a politician or a retired trustee as so often happens. Guest: Bubba O'Neil, Sports Anchor at CHCH

We're hearing a lot from our politicians who are mentioning free stuff for everyone a lot. People are listening but not questioning a lot of what politicians say and this can be a problem, free things don't just appear and cutting expenses isn't as easy as politicians make it sound. Where should our minds be when listening to our politicians? - Hamilton has some unusual by-laws that govern our parks but the question has to be asked, why do some of these ridiculous by-laws exist? Is there a logical answer or could there possibly be some goofy story that sparked Hamilton city council to put these by-laws in place? Guest: Kara Bunn, Parks & Recreation Manager for the City of Hamilton - When there's a mother who tazes her teenage son to wake him up, someone rents their house only to have the whole thing turned into an adult film set and someone puts the wrong address for an estate sale, that can only mean one thing, Ben's Story of the Day! Which story will he choose? Which story is your story of the day? - Augusta National Golf Course is a name that any golf fan knows and knows well. Nearly every fan of golf would love to just go and see someone play golf at Augusta but can only dream of playing on the course. Now imagine being 15 and getting the chance to compete on Augusta, surely this is quite the nerve wracking experience but what is it really like? How has Mac's freedom of expression policy been...
Ironically enough, an event that was scheduled to take place at McMaster called "Tolerating Intolerance" had a speaker pull out simply because they didn't think another speaker should have been presenting at the same event. This almost makes it sounds like there are people who aren't receiving Mac's new policy that protects the freedom of expression while on campus too well, is this really the case? Guest: Hadhy Ayaz, President of Overcome the Gap - After the controversial verdicts that have come out of some racially charged trials, the federal government is planning to change the way juries are selected. Are the changes actually going to make for fairer trials? Guest: Jaime Stephenson, past President of the Hamilton Criminal Lawyers' Association - Archaeoligists have uncovered what are now believed to be the oldest human foot prints in North America. These prints often give insight into what past humans' bodily proportions were like and what they looked like but how do we know for fact that they all looked like that and we didn't just find an outlier? Could Scott's footprints throw off future scientists and what does he have to do to ensure that happens? - Tonight is opening night for the Toronto Blue Jays and regardless of who they play against, they're probably not going to do too well. Scott and Bubba predict they're aiming to make a come back around 2020-21, what do you think - will the Jays do well this year or are we going to be waiting a while? You may love the Liberals' budget presented today or you may hate it. There's certainly lots in there to chew on. We're going to deal with only one question this evening, though. Namely, how in the world can we possibly pay for this? Even if we need all these things, where will the money come from? Guest: Christine Van Geyn, Ontario Director of the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation - A legal team in Toronto is arguing that their Afro-Canadian client charged with a violent crime should receive special consideration in sentencing because he's black. We already have this enshrined in the Criminal Code for Indigenous defendants. Should it be expanded to include other racial groups? Guest: Peter Boushy, past President of the Hamilton Criminal Lawyers' Association - A decision of epic proportions is being made today. Scott's producer, Ben, has three stories in front of him but only one can be crowned Ben's Story of the Day. Will it be the man with a huge order that destroys a McDonalds, the man who faked his death to get out of a bet with a twist or the lady who discovered her food didn't upset her stomach... something sillier actually did? - Mac's all-time leading receiver was the star of the CFL combine on the weekend and surely enhanced his draft status. Question though: If you've had four years to watch film on a guy and scout him in games, how much should one 40-yard dash time or vertical leap really matter? And what difference does it make how he answers a question about what type of doughnut he'd be? Guest: Dan Petermann, McMaster Marauders Receiver

Bryan Prince Bookseller, an independent bookstore in Westdale, will be closing its doors this week after 29 years in business. In an age where brick and mortar bookshops seem to be scarce and people are mainly shopping online, how did Bryan Prince Bookseller stay open as long as it did? Guest: Marvin Ryder, business professor for the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University - There are 5.6 million Canadians who are juggling work with taking care of an elderly relative or friend. Many workplaces aren’t necessarily accommodating of these situations, which can put a lot of stress on both the employee and the company. New guidelines developed by McMaster researcher Dr. Allison Williams, in partnership with the Canadian Standards Association, are aimed at helping employers support workers who are in this position. Guest: Dr. Allison Williams, McMaster professor and Research Chair in Gender, Work and Health for the Canadian Institute of Health Research - Scott and Don Robertson of the Dundas Real McCoys discuss the latest news from the world of sports, including potential problems with the NHL playoffs format and what exactly makes a player the MVP on a team - especially a team that isn't really doing well.

The city wants to discuss banning hate groups from city parks and facilities. Which sounds like an idea a lot of people could get behind. But who defines what a hate group is? And wouldn't this infringe on these peoples' Charter right to free expression and free association? Guest: Fred Eisenberger, Mayor of Hamilton - The new hall of fame at Tim Hortons Field will supposedly be ready by the start of football season. How is that possible? And what exactly will this new hall look like? Guest: Mark DeNobile - Executive Director of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame - Australian actor, Russell Crowe is going through a divorce which is unfortunate to hear but what isn't unfortunate is that he's auctioning off some of his things! Though we're not sure why he's auctioning these off, you can be sure there will be some weird and cool stuff that you can have a chance at being the proud owner of. - Cassie Campbell is leading a charge to get North America's two women's professional hockey leagues to merge for the betterment and growth of the sport. Today is National Down Syndrome Day. Yet in numerous countries around the world, efforts are being made through prenatal screening to eradicate the syndrome because of the 'painful' lives the children and their parents are bound to suffer. Is this true or a troubling example of social engineering perfect children and eugenics? Guest: Jen Crowson, President of the Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton - Yesterday's school shooting in Maryland ended in less than a minute with only two people hit when a school resource officer armed with a gun on campus was able to take down the shooter. Does this bolster Donald Trump's argument that having armed staff and teachers on campus could prevent greater loss of life or was this just a bit of relatively good fortune? Guest: David Hyde, Owner & Principal Consultant of David Hyde & Associates - Scott's producer, Ben, has a three stories in front of him but he can crown only one of them Ben's Story of the Day. The world has some weird people out there and these three stories definitely showcase some of those peculiar people. Guest: Allan Nichols, President of Canadian Expat Association - There are other parties running in the provincial election. The guest is running for the None of the Above Party in Hamilton. But should fringe parties get seats at all-candidates meetings and time in discussion of policy or does that just complicate things? Guest: Linda Chenoweth, None of the Above Party MPP Candidate - President Donald Trump proposed that teachers be armed in American schools and despite this being poorly received by many, it appears to have worked. A school shooting in Maryland was stopped by someone armed from within the school. Could Donald Trump be right? - Forbes just rated Rogers Centre as one of the worst major league ballparks. Is it? Over the weekend, Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath shared some details about her party's platform ahead of the June election. Today the current Liberal premier delivered a throne speech that outlined what the Liberal government wants to accomplish if they're re-elected. In both cases, the plan seems to be promise voters everything under the sun - which, of course, will cost money and put Ontario even further in debt. Guest: Bill Kelly, host of "The Bill Kelly Show" on 900 CHML -  When recreational cannabis is legal in Canada, what kind of packaging will it have? And what kind of effect does the government hope it will have on consumers? Guest: Julian Morris, Vice President of Research at Reason Foundation - Scott and Don Robertson of the Dundas Real McCoys discuss the latest from the world of sports, including UMBC becoming the first number 16 seed ever to beat a number 1 seed in NCAA history and the Toronto Raptors' fury with the officiating during Sunday's game against Oklahoma City. Why do we love underdogs so much? And should referees be giving the benefit of the doubt to the star players on a team?
