Dan Fisher Talks About The Tiny Homes Project
Kingston, ON - Limestone District School Board students in the Building Construction Internship Program (BCIP) are hosting an Open House celebrating the eight ‘Tiny Homes’ they have completed this year, marking their 100th house project, on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 45 County Road 6 in Amherstview from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. This year, students in the BCIP program embarked on a project in partnership with the Limestone District School Board and Habitat for Humanity. The Tiny Homes were created for safe, healthy, and affordable housing in the Kingston area, and have a cascading effect as a hand up for our community’s most vulnerable. BCIP students are looking forward to sharing stories with family, friends, community members, media, and members of the public at Monday’s open house. Media are invited to attend Monday’s Open House in Amherstview. Dan Fisher (fisherda@limestone.on.ca or 613-214-9736) is the teacher that will be on site for the open house. If possible, please let Maddie Crothers know in advance if you are planning on attending, and we can let Dan know that you will be joining. About the Building Construction Internship Program The Building Construction Internship Program has been running for 30 years. Thousands of Limestone students have participated in the program, with the alumni found on nearly every construction site in the Kingston area. Currently, their collective dedication and hard work has delivered the program to the summit of their 100th house. The BCIP’s influence is felt beyond the communities served by Limestone and helps to shape secondary programming in Ontario. The province’s Specialist High Skills Major program is modelled on the cross-curricular, project-based learning. Limestone District School Board is very proud of the impact that the Building Construction Internship Program has had locally and beyond.

Alexa May Soon Be Able to Imitate Dead Family M...
Have you ever wanted the driving directions to a local gentlemen's club dictated to you by your deceased grandma?  Well, thanks to technology, it could be possible! Amazon is developing a new feature for Alexa that would allow you to "speak to" the dead.  It's simple, Alexa will only need to listen to audio of the deceased talking for one minute, like from a voicemail or something, and it'd be able to recreate their voice.  And they'd be able to say anything, not just "Why don't you ever call me?" Amazon is touting it as a way to "make memories last," which is one of the less morbid characterizations of this feature.  They also suggest that a child could ask Alexa to have grandma finish reading them the "Wizard of Oz", and Alexa would immediately adjust its voice to imitate grandma. Some people say this reminds them of the "Be Right Back" episode of the show "Black Mirror", where a woman orders an AI copy of her dead husband.  One person joked that episode was, "supposed to be a warning, not a [product] pitch. Amazon has yet to announce when the feature will debut, or if it will be available to the public at all.

New Trend: Socks on the Beach
Here's a good question for summer:  Is it socially acceptable to wear socks at the BEACH?  Not socks and sandals... just socks A woman in Australia posted a video after her American boyfriend embarrassed her by doing it.  She didn't offer an explanation, just a photo.  He's shirtless and in a bathing suit, but he's also got ankle socks on. One potential benefit would be protecting your feet from the hot sand.  But is it worth it if you're the WEIRDO at the beach?  A few people in the TikTok comments said they do it too.  So maybe it's a thing?

Dior Is Selling a Gardening Kit for $8,700
This seems so overpriced for something that just helps you play around in the dirt:  The fashion brand Dior is selling a simple gardening kit for the low, low price of $8,700.  You get a stool, like those cheap camping stools that fold in half.  But the seat is made of calfskin leather.  It comes in black or WHITE, which seems like it would get ruined immediately.  You also get a small shovel and hand rake and that's it! One report we saw said you can only order them in-store, and you have to make an appointment.  It looks like they already pulled the listing from their website. If you'd rather save yourself the hassle, and the nine grand... Home Depot has a similar product for 48 bucks, but it's not nearly as fabulous.

Would you let cockroaches in your house for $2000?
No one wants to share their home with a cockroach and definitely not 100 cockroaches.  But would you deal with it if you were getting PAID? A company in North Carolina has an exciting offer:  If you allow them to come into your home, and release 100 cockroaches, they'll give you a check for a whopping $2,000. The company is called The Pest Informer, and they're trying to test out "a specific pest control technique" and see how effective it is.  And they need volunteers Five to seven homeowners will be selected . . . and in addition to the infestation, you'll also have to consent to filming and monitoring in your home.  You know, so they can track all the roaches The experiment lasts about 30 days and The Pest Informer PROMISES that you'll be rid of the roaches by the end.  If their new technique doesn't work, then they'll use "traditional cockroach treatment options at no cost to you." They didn't describe the new technique, but they say it's family and pet safe.
