<p><strong>Benik Afobe's second-half strike earned Millwall a 2-1 victory over Blackpool at The Den.</strong></p><p>The hosts took the lead early in the first half when Dutchman Zian Flemming's header squirmed agonisingly past Blackpool goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw and in for an own goal.</p><br><p>The visitors pulled level before half-time when Dom Thompson teed up Arsenal loanee Charlie Patino, who slotted his first league goal calmly past George Long.</p><p>But Millwall dominated after the break as Afobe's effort proved enough to secure a much-needed triumph for Gary Rowett's men.</p><p>The result moves Millwall - who had lost four of their previous five league games heading into the encounter - up to 13th in the table, while Blackpool drop to 19th, just two points outside the bottom three.</p><br><p>Join Alex &amp; Kai as they talk to fans right after the match.</p><br /><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast. <h2><strong>Millwall ended their three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City at The Den.</strong></h2><p>Second-half goals from Charlie Cresswell and Benik Afobe sealed a much needed three points for Gary Rowett’s men.</p><p>Zian Flemming on his home debut came close within five minutes. His long-range effort finding the gloves of Ryan Allsop. four minutes later the visitors responded, Jaden Philogene firing over from just outside the box. He came close again four minutes later, but he once again failed to hit the target.&nbsp;</p><p>Callum Styles had a fabulous debut in Millwall colours and set Andreas Voglsammer away, he found Flemming, who curled an effort wide.&nbsp;</p><p>Voglsammer went close in the 28th minute; with his back to goal, he went for it, but it was simple enough for Allsop to deal with.&nbsp;</p><p>Four minutes before the break, former Millwall loanee Sheyi Ojo almost gave Cardiff the lead. A ball across goal reached Ojo, and his effort came back off the post.&nbsp;</p><p>The Lions were forced into a change just two minutes into the second period. Shaun Hutchinson was replaced by Cresswell.&nbsp;</p><p>Substitute Mark Harris rattled the post for Cardiff, his effort on the turn coming back of Bart Bialkowksi’s left-hand post. Cardiff would go on to rue that missed opportunity as in the 64th minute, they found themselves behind as two Millwall substitutes combined for the opening goal of the contest. Cresswell headed in Scott Malone’s corner to give the Lions the lead.&nbsp;</p><p>Tyler Burey came close to a second, forcing Allsop into a good save with 20 minutes to go. <h2><strong>Millwall were handed a third straight league defeat by Burnley as they were beaten 2-0 at Turf Moor.</strong></h2><p><br></p><p>Second half goals from Vitnho and Jay Rodriguez secured the hosts’ their first home win of the season after three draws on their own patch.</p><p>The defeat extended Millwall’s winless run to ten away from home.</p><p>Zian Flemming and Andreas Voglsammer were both handed full debuts as part of three changes made to the side that lost 1-0 at home to Reading last Saturday. Charlie Cresswell was the third change.</p><br><p>Vincent Kompany’s side came close early on, former Charlton man Joann Berg Gudmundsson firing a shot into the side netting. Bart Bialkowski was forced into a save from Nathan Tella’s shot on 12 minutes.</p><br><p>We nearly got to see a stunning debut goal from Flemming but&nbsp;Arijanet Muric used bis full frame to keep out the Dutchman’s effort. Bialkowski then had to prevent Josh Brownhill’s free kick from flying into the net.</p><br><p>Into the second half and Flemming was set through by Tom Bradshaw but Muric denied him.</p><p>Cresswell hit the post after Jake Cooper’s header back into the box fell to his defensive partner but the post denied him a third goal of the season.</p><br><p>Burnley took the lead just after the hour mark. Benson’s cross was headed in at the back post by Vitnho. They doubled their lead in the 72nd minute. <p>On Saturday, #millwall face the stern test of playing #reading at the Den. Reading have had a mixed bag of results to begin the season, not unlike the Lions! However, the Royals have managed to achieve nine points from their opening five fixtures, whilst Millwall are on seven, which means that Saturday’s encounter gives the Lions the chance to leapfrog Reading!</p><p>Reading’s last 5 fixtures (in all comps) WLLWW</p><p>Millwall are unbeaten in their last five encounters with the Royals, managing to get four wins in that time too!</p><br><p>It is thought that Millwall will go into the game playing their standard 3-5-2 formation, in which the wing backs are classed as part of the midfield five.</p><br><p>Danny McNamara will be expected to start this weekend despite a difficult start to his campaign, however there are still question marks about who will play of the left hand side, with some Millwall fans actively speaking against Scott Malone after he’s struggled in the last few games for the Lions!</p><br><p>Reading have had a lot of fortune since switching in the last couple of games to a 3-5-2 formation, with Holmes, Hutchinson and Mcintyre playing as a back 3 whilst Hoilett and Yiadom have now pushed up and act as part of the Reading midfield.</p><br><p>Our Inside Man this week are <a href="@ElmParkRoyals" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@ElmParkRoyals</a> and <a href="@readingfanman" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@readingfanman</a>, they were feeling moderately confident going into the game despite their poor record in recent years against the Lions, however there is still worry from within the Reading fanbase.</p><br /><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
