On 27th September 1986, Lloyd Honeyghan took on Donald Curry for the undisputed welterweight title. The fight took place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was televised by Showtime.At the time Curry was considered to be one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world with his only possible rival being Marvin Hagler. Honeyghan was given little chance by the majority of the media.

IBF Featherweight Champion Kiko Martinez of Spain takes on former champion Josh Warrington this Saturday, March 26th in Warrington’s hometown of Leeds, England. The 12-rounder is a rematch of their 2017 bout in which Warrington won a 12-round majority decision. Martinez, who’s also a former IBF Super Bantamweight world titleholder, won the belt in November with a sensational sixth-round knockout of Kid Galahad in an upset. In the summer of 1981, only two boxers mattered in America: WBA welterweight champion Thomas Hearns, and WBC welterweight champion Sugar Ray Leonard. Since the previous fall, when both men won huge fights – Hearns knocking out the dangerous Pipino Cuevas; Leonard forcing the great Roberto Duran to quit — this was the biggest match boxing could offer, the contest the whole world wanted to see.
